Dark Lakes: A Three-Book Collection (A Dark Lakes Collection 1) Kindle Edition
Joseph Lake doesn’t know who he is or where he came from, but he’s beginning to think that the answer might be the death of him.
By day, Joseph scrubs toilets and fixes broken light fittings, by night he looks into weird stuff: local hauntings, unexplained disappearances, satanic cabals dancing naked around ancient stone circles.
The usual.
The Uncanny calls to him like a beacon, and he follows its signal wherever it leads, hoping that one day it will shine a light on who he really is.
Can Joseph put the pieces together and figure out his identity? And if he does, will he be able to live with who he really is?
Mystery, scares, and fast-paced action collide in this thrilling urban fantasy. Dark Lakes: A Three-Book Collection, combines the first three books in the Dark Lakes series:

Magic Eater:
Another hysterical Uncanny Kingdom series. It was full of horrible one liners and mind numbing tangents. I thought Joe was a great character. The book is told from his perspective and we get to listen to what he says out loud and his internal ramblings. I thought book was a great read and liked twisted ending. I did not see who the bad guy was coming. Great job! Well written, I laughed though most of it. The writing was very British when compared to the other Uncanny books, but as an American I got the gist of the jokes and sayings. I received a free copy and my honest review is - if you like wacky stories and laughing out loud while reading, the Uncanny Kingdom books are worth picking up and reading.
Blood Stones:
Joe and Eva are back for book 2 that is just as funny and irreverent as book 1. Joe manages to get himself in trouble again but technically he knows exactly what he got himself into, well just one part of his life. The rest of what happens in the story not so much. Well written, I laughed through most of the book when I was not groaning. Plus Joe learns a little bit more about his past and Fox and Red Queen do show up a few times just to make things more interesting. I received a free copy and my honest review is that I was totally entertained as I read this one all in one setting as I just had to see what Joe would end up getting entangled in this time.
Past Sins:
Joseph is back and the "fun" is on in the Dark Lakes. All the crazies are back too trying to get Joseph to become the Dark Eater and rule. The story was a hoot and full of funny crazy scenes. I giggled through most of it as I knew the book would be great from the first chapter. I was not disappointed and thought it was great. Learned more about Joseph's past and just sighed when I watch Joseph make stupid decisions just like a normal male in a normal situation (dating) and then his tangents at the crazy part of his life. Plus Joseph's inner monologue was hysterical as always. I received a free copy and I choose to review this fun snarky story that entertained me the whole time as I have come to expect from Stott. Just well written and addicting.
I enjoyed this story although for me it did seem to take its time revealing, (or starting to reveal) Just who Joesph Lake is or was?but I guess it’s showing who he is now before coming books reveal who he was and what led to him waking with no memories 10 years ago!
It’s entertaining and fun and will have you hooked in not wanting to miss any detail.
Joesph Lake is a likeable character and Eva Familiar is one of a kind lol, the ending will definitely leave you reaching for the next book because you will absolutely want to know the story behind that revelation.
Bk 2: Blood Stones
Is Joseph Lakes starting to melt Eva Familiar’s gruff exterior? She’ll never admit it if he is.
Joseph finds out a bit more about who he was but uncovering that info is frustratingly slow for him, throw in several uncanny problems and some deception and what you have is a fantastic story that you don’t want to miss a second of.
I’m still loving the unique and cranky bombshell that is Eva Familiar.
This is definitely a series you don’t want to miss out on.
Bk 3: Past Sins
Not gonna lie I’m totally caught up in this uncanny world. A fantastic tale with witty sarcasm, amazing characters, twists I didn’t see coming and a rather emotional element that may have blurred my vision for a moment or two. To the author I say WHY? Just why did you do that?
I honestly can not get enough of these books.
The MC Joseph Lake is a gentle, unassuming, simple man who just wants to know his past.
Eva Familiar is a Familiar that has a filthy mouth, nothing good to say about Joseph, and a alcoholic. These two together are trying to protect the Lake area and fight the good fight.
I have listened to several other Uncanny Kingdom books and this collection is OK, but not one of the better ones. Narrator does a good job with the characters voices and the entire storyline.
