Dark Night, Dead Knight: Scottish Ghost Castle Mysteries - Book 1 Kindle Edition
There weren't supposed to be ghosts!
For twelve years, mystery writer Margo Collins has been haunted. An ancient Highlands castle and its handsome laird have never really left her heart. But when she answers an invitation to join a writers’ retreat at the castle, Margo must face a specter more disturbing than her own bittersweet memories.
Ghosts—actual ghosts—are waiting for her in the home of her dreams.
Instead of enjoying the peaceful sanctuary she imagined, Margo finds herself facing down restless spirits and pursuing an elusive killer.
With the help of her new furry sidekick and a castle full of quirky characters, can the reluctant Margo unravel a sinister plot and help a wandering spirit find peace? Or will her buried feelings for the handsome laird rise to haunt her more than any ghost ever could?

About the author

Diane has spent the last several years in her secluded writing cave in Texas, guarded by her pocket-sized panther, Bear. Her writing cave is carefully disguised as a suburban house, and house panther Bear can take on the appearance of a common domestic cat. He might appear small, but his stare can stop a speeding bullet. The house-cave is insulated by wall-to-wall books, providing a quiet space for stories to come to life. After decades of dreaming about it, Diane recently started to write and publish her own books. When she ventures out now, even to forage for food, hordes of story ideas track her down and follow her home. These days, Diane spends her waking hours plotting, writing, and editing her books, and dreaming up even more ideas when she falls asleep. She’s loving every minute of it.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2025Loved the idea of a castle reimagined as a writer's residence retreat for authors who write about ghosts. With private apartments or suites. My favorite character is Grayson. Margo and Lachlan were engaging characters as well. The story and mystery held my interest. This seems like the perfect setting for many dark and mysterious stories. Looking forward to reading the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2023The subtitle sold me. Scottish Ghost Castle Mysteries--it's my favorite four words!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2021A ghost communicates in dreams about his murder. This sets the story apart from other ghost mysteries I have read. I like the main characters and the plot. The plot has twists.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2023Enjoyed this very much. Interesting characters set in a Scottish castle with a ghost, a cat, and now a dog. Something for everyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2021This book had everything I enjoy in a book. An amazing setting, quirky characters, a murder to solve, a ghost, a possible romance and all the twists and turns. I can't wait to get to know the characters even better.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2021received this book as an ARC from the author for an honest review. So I'll be honest. I read this book in one day. I laughed my head off at a few of the comments, I worried for the characters, especially that cat. I love that damn cat. The atmosphere was a cross between luxury and history. There isn't anything not to like about this book it has all the ingredients of a great cozy mystery, plus, there are ghosts, there are writers, there are the cold and dark walls of an ancient Scottish castle turned luxury writers retreat. The mystery is wasn't as easy to figure out as some cozy's are. In a nutshell. I like it, I liked it very much.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2022Interesting characters, enough twists ,turns and unanswered questions to make it difficult to put down and hard to wait for the rest of the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2023I received this book as an Arc from the author and I’m writing a review because I want to. For twelve years a writer has avoided a Scottish Castle. She attracts ghosts. She returned by invitation and right away has an experience with a ghost who recently died. Can she and her Laird solve this mystery? Highly recommended!
