Dead Heat (Outlaw Ridge, Texas Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 29 ratings

Sabrina Snow faked her death to escape the world she'd lived in since she was "adopted" by a CIA handler and trained as an assassin.

Sabrina knew she was going to get herself killed if she didn’t get help. Someone knew she was still alive, and he was after her—and he wasn't going to stop. She ran to the only man she trusted...the only man who had the skills to save her. Too bad he probably hated her. But she owed him the truth even though she'd wanted to keep the knowledge from him. What if she were killed? John needed to know where to look. If he'd hated her before, what would he feel once he learned the depth of her deception?

Navy SEAL John Galloway doesn't trust Sabrina. She lies for a living so how can he? So what's he supposed to do when she shows up in the last place he ever expected to see her?
Dead Heat continues the story of the Galloway family and Outlaw Ridge, Texas, a romantic thriller series by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Joan Reeves.

Joan Reeves, Writing Happily Ever After—Time After Time, is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Romance. Regardless of the sub-genre, all of her novels have the same underlying premise: "It's never too late to live happily ever after. Her novels have been published in half a dozen languages, and her books are available in audio, ebook, and print.

NOTE: Since Joan has been writing for several years and had print books published with many publishers—American and foreign—be sure you choose a print book with a copyright date after 2011 because Amazon shows all of her old print books here. (Authors have no control over this.) The new print editions have been expanded and show new cover art.

When not writing romance—or nonfiction to share what she has learned in life—Joan divides her time between the hustle and bustle of Houston and a house in the Texas Hill Country where she and her hero, her husband, sit on the porch at night, look at the star-studded sky, and listen to the coyotes howl.

Everything’s moving at a dead heat in this story, running full-tilt from the first page. The opening yanks you right in, hurtling you down twists and turns until you arrive with Sabrina to find yourself pounding on a tightly shut escape hatch.

Joan Reeves delivers the scenes so well that you live it with the characters, finding yourself running for all you’re worth, to coming to a dead stop, caught in the throes of the memory of desire.

This second book in the series stands alone very well, well enough that new readers will want to go back and read the first one, if nothing else, for the adrenaline rush. But they’ll also find it difficult letting go of these characters and want see what set these people in motion.

And for those who love body-heat, that’s delivered with some serious Fahrenheit’s, too. It’s sensuous and sexy, a blend of desire and passion balanced to perfection.

If you love suspense, and you also enjoy your romantic suspense served up with a high heat level, this book won’t disappoint.

A good story filled with plenty of emotion and past histories of the M.C.'s
Even as I said that this story is filled with the M.C.'s histories that is mainly their history together. Much of Sabrina's past is hidden especially from John. Secrets and lies is how he often described it. And Wilson has played a HUGE part in their story as well. He's someone who took Sabrina in at age 13 and trained her from that time on. To her, she sees him as a cold person but still almost a surrogate father figure. As the story unfolds you'll see that he has interfered in her life. Doing what HE thinks is in her best interest.
There is a short period of time where the story felt like it was starting to drag down. But things do pick up.
There is one particular secret that Sabrina has held that I was suspecting. But there was even more to that secret that I had even guessed at.
John still loves Sabrina even as he hates himself at times because of it. He is surrounded by family and friends and they will definitely need them.
Things get really intense and interesting as a dangerous challenge is met. Leading to a H.E.A. that includes an Epilogue.
By the way, the eBook cover really caught my eye, nice choice.

A fiery lady with a whole lot of trouble and sass, she would go all out to protect the ones she loves, this time situation got too much for her and what she needed is some serious help, that is where her past came face to face with the present. A treacherous, action-filled compact book with an absolutely great storyline and really cool characters, that brought the story to life. A book that keeps you hooked until you reached the end, not a fan of obscene language in books or explicit sexual contents but this book was divine I liked it, truly a masterpiece, in my opinion, the storyline was captivating and pack filled with intrigue, a must read folks.
