- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2024This is the second book in the series and I am about to order all the rest. This author has everything right--the characters, the settings, the pace--and he is a master of misdirection, so be on your toes. If you are a fan of David Gatward's Harry Grimm, Denzil Meyrick's DCI Daley, or Chris Ould's Faroe Islands series, I think you'll enjoy Keith Moray's Torquil McKinnon.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2018Good story. Interesting to read about small town in Scotland Didn't figure out the murderer until near the end.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2018I didn't care for the misleading start of the book. The rest was ok.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2018This is the second Torquil McKinnon book that I have read by Keith Moray. His plot was good but his characterization was even better. And his descriptions of the setting on the fictional island of West Uist were fantastic. It makes you want to visit the outer Hebrides islands. What I particularly liked was that this setting was so remote. West Uist has an extremely small police force on the island who are by themselves to solve murders without the benefit of forensic labs or a lot of manpower. While the books were not as good plot wise as Ann Cleeves' Shetland mysteries, they were still highly enjoyable.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2018Excellent story very much enjoyed it.
I am a fan of UK mysteries, the story line was good with surprises along the way.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2016Enjoyed the mystery from the Outer Island of Uist. Inspector Torquil McKinnon and his colleagues are up to the task. Author Keith Moray has done a great job describing life on these remote islands. Will certainly look for the further adventures of Inspector McKinnon. Moray is a welcome addition to mystery authors, Peter May and Chris Brookmyre, who also write Outer Hebrides mysteries.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2018Deathly Wind, A Torquil McKinnon Mystery by Keith Moray was received direct from the publisher. Deathly Wind has a lot of character development, which some people love, others not so much. For fans who read the first book, which is not necessary, this book may surprise you from the get go. If you like a murder mystery (?) with a wind energy back drop this may be just the book for you or whoever you buy books for.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 5, 2018Keith Moray can write a story that can't be put down. The Scottish police of a small village is esceptional. Buy all of them and keep them handy. You will want to reread them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the characters
Love the characters and local lore, especially having grown up with stories of similar characters. Little did I know that I was being given history lessons that would help my belief and my taste in fiction. Keep up the good work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth a read
I thought this was a good book and as it was the second in the series you knew the characters. Once you got used to some of the words they used, very Scottish, it was very enjoyable and the storyline was good.
