RONE AWARD NOMINATED
"It was a glimpse at how true love begins and evolves. In addition, the younger voices and personality of the characters were organic and believable just as they were as they aged. "Decide" was truly a great piece of writing to lose yourself in on a lazy afternoon. As with many great stories, this reader just wished it was longer!"

About the Author

Michelle Irwin has been many things: a hobbit taking a precious item to a fiery mountain; a young child stepping through the back of a wardrobe into another land; the last human stranded not-quite-alone in space three million years in the future; and a time-travelling madman in a box. All of these feats and many more were achieved through her voracious reading. Eventually, the cast inside her mind took over and spilled onto the page. Michelle lives in sunny Queensland in the land down under. A lover of love and overcoming the odds, she writes romance.

What a tantalizing taste of the begining of Declan Reede's story. I was instantly drawn in, enthralled, captivated with the mind of Declan... it's not every day you get to read the thought's of a teenage boy, which I found I could strangly relate. We are all teenagers at one point in our lives. I loved Michelle's use of all things Australiana, it's wonderful to read about things in your own country. Who in Australia doesn't get a kick out of watching Bathurst in October??

Declan & Alyssa's on again, off again relationship, is like a rollercoster ride, but I could imagine with all the teenage hormones rearing things would be more emotional than normal. I found Declan's complete enthrallment with Alyssa through those troubling teen years to be fun to read, bringing back my own teenage years. But also Declan's dream is forever in the forefront of his mind, always trying to convince Alyssa that his dream can come true & he doesn't need anything to fall back on. Whereas Allyssa was the type of female lead you could definitely learn to love, but really teenage yearsare never fun for anyone, so she wasn't able to do any justice there. Don't get me wrong at times I did love her, I also loved Declan's character at times too, but at other times... I just wanted to smack their heads together.

Michelle has written an AMAZINGLY TANTALISING start to her new series "Declan Reede: The Untold Story" (HOW did Michelle get inside a teenage boys mind so well??)... I can't wait to read what happens next for Declan, I also HOPE Alyssa comes back, especially with the ending I just read (doesn't make me like Declan to much)... aaarrrggghh I have a love/hate relationship I think with Declan.

Decide is the first piece I’ve read from Michelle Irwin, but I’ll definitely be picking up her other books! It was a delightfully-entertaining and quick read that leaves you wanting the next instalment a.s.a.p (oh, how I wish that were possible!).

In this novella, we meet bad boy Declan Reede as he tries to fulfil his dream of becoming a ProV8 driver. While his girlfriend isn’t happy about this “fantasy” of his, she all but forces him to make a choice—her or the track?

Whether he ultimately regrets his choice or not, I guess we’ll have to wait for Decline to see.

Michelle’s writing style and Declan’s voice is what sucked me in at first, but it was the characters and decisions they had to make that kept me turning the pages until the end.

Sheesh, I remember all the angst I felt when I was a teenager in love. This book captures all that inner turmoil perfectly. You really ride the roller coaster of emotions with these two. You smile with them as well as cringe with them, even get mad with them. An entertaining read with a few scenes that turned my cheeks red. Though, I would have like to see a tad bit more about Declan's racing and just a bit less of him and Alyssa kissing.

Michelle Irwin has a very catching and easy to read writing style that grabs your attention from the very get go and then she manages to get you keep you enthralled to the very end.

I would recommend this book to any one over 18, as someone else said how Michelle manages to get inside the head of a young man and spin a yarn like she had is purely magically and I am not talking paranormal with this one.

I have been curious about this book since I saw this as a cover photo on Facebook but I kind of got hesitant when I learned that this is a New Adult book. Aside from a couple of authors which I guess I can now make three, the New Adult genre and I does not get along very well. However, I can say that I am happy to have read the beginning of Declan's story.

This introduction story to Declan Reede started when both of the main characters were very young. I think a lot of people can relate to this story because I believe that at some point of our lives, we've been through what these two characters have been.

To be honest, I was kind of annoyed and disappointed with Alyssa a lot of times as I was reading this story. But when I take into account her character, her age, her upbringing, I can very well say that she's definitely acting like her age. And maybe it didn't help that this book was written in Declan's POV so her side was not really explained for me to relate and understan her. However, it actually made me looked back at my past and think if I ever was anything like her in one way or another. The relationship she and Declan have is also very much their age. The immaturity, the bickerings and the ups and downs they went through, there are times I wish I could get inside the book and put some sense to the two of them.

Declan has his share of disappointing sides too but I like how he is very driven and how he dreams and knows what he wants for his future. He may not have handled every situation well, but I do believe that at his age, he made the right choice.

Even so, I think all of these are good things because it leaves so much room for not only the story to develop but also for the characters to grow. Given a few years and a little maturity, I am excited to find out how the two of them will fare. I can't wait to find out how this beginning affect their lives in the future.

From the cover this was either going to be a novel about romance with a bit of racing or a novel about racing with a side order of passion.

Just to clarify which, this book mostly concerns the ups and downs of the relationship between the main character and his first girlfriend.
His aspiration to be a racing driver is well written and an important part of his life, but forms a secondary part of the story.

The couple concerned have a bit of a fiery on-off relationship, which makes for a more interesting read than if they just got on well all the time, although it is clear that they suit one another.
There is some sex, but it is a natural part of the story rather than anything gratuitous.
The highs and lows of teenage life with its petty embarrasments are well realised here.

This is the first of a series, so future instalments will show whether racing becomes a bigger element of the books, but in any case, if you enjoy this book, you will want to read more to find out what happens next between the couple.

Off to a great start with this young love romance. I love a great romance with a bit of angst thrown in and this, although only a glimpse of what's to come has me counting down the days until the release of the second instalment. In this we see two young childhood best friends Declan Reede and Alyssa Dawson fall in and out of love although I'm sure never really out of, just both too stubborn to fight hard enough to hold on to what they both had.
What will the future hold when they both seem to want different things in life or do they? I guess I'll find out when Decline is released to my iPad.

I really enjoyed getting into the lives of Declan and his best friend Alyessa who soon turns into more through the course of the story. I love the way the author has captured the difficulties and dilemma's faced by teenagers falling in love and struggling as real life and ambition gets in the way!
I'm looking forward to reading the next parts of this series and learning more about Declan's racing career.

This prequel has it all - teenage angst, first love, hopes and plans for the future without the bitter taint of disappointment, because Declan and Alyssa have their whole lives before them and everything seems possible. Even when their relationship hits trouble, Declan's very Aussie attitude of, "She'll be right, mate," holds true.

But when love clashes with hopes and dreams, it's hard to see what will win.

This is an introduction to Declan's series and I'm interested to see where Ms Irwin takes him next. He's such a classic Aussie teenager, worshipping his preferred sport and not understanding when his girl doesn't get it. It'll be interesting to see what happens as Declan grows into the man he'll eventually be.

A must-read for anyone who went to high school in Australia, sighed over a Holden V8 and can wax lyrical over the benefits of a VK over a VL, or vice versa.
