3.9 out of 5 stars 119 ratings

Hold on tight, stick to the racing line, and watch for the corners.

Four years ago, Declan Reede chose race cars over romance to follow his dreams. Foul-mouthed and as known for his bedroom antics as his performance on the track, his life was better than he'd imagined it could be.

Haunted by what might have been, he's unable to return to his carefree lifestyle.

With six crashes from six starts, his career is racing downhill faster than his V8 on Mount Panorama. To put the brakes on his decline, he must get her out of his head. But is that even possible?

Find out more in this second-chance romance filled with hope and hurt mixed with a unique Aussie flavour.

About the Author

Michelle Irwin has been many things in her life: a hobbit taking a precious item to a fiery mountain; a young child stepping through the back of a wardrobe into another land; the last human stranded not-quite-alone in space three million years in the future; a young girl willing to fight for the love of a vampire; and a time-travelling madman in a box. She achieved all of these feats and many more through her voracious reading habit. Eventually, so much reading had to have an effect and the cast of characters inside her mind took over and spilled out onto the page. Michelle lives in sunny Queensland in the land down under with her surprisingly patient husband and ever-intriguing daughter, carving out precious moments of writing and reading time around her accounts-based day job. A lover of love and overcoming the odds, she primarily writes romance.

After reading (& loving Decide) I went into this book on edge, intrigued, & in anticipation... why you ask?? I was wondering what would happen between Decide & Decline, especially with the cliffhanger Michelle left us in. 'Decline' is book 1 in "Declan Reede: The Untold Story" but I highly advise you read 'Decide' first, it's based 4 years prior & gives you a more indepth background story into the lives of Declan & Alyssa.

Declan is on his second year on the V8 curcuit, his dreams are fulfilled, but a chance sighting of Alyssa, the girl in his past, setting emotions off within Declan starting his decline in his job. Another on-track accident, gets Declan sent to London & who do you think is allocated the seat next to him???

There was so many twists & turns within this story, Declan was living life in the fast lane, but things or events seem to catch up to you when you least expect, Declan's life is no different. I found Declan to be slightly all over the place, emotionally he didn't seem to be able to handle things or emotions well, his favourite word was f#$*, but I can understand his use of the word all throughout the book. There were situations within that required the word, believe me.

I started reading 'Decline' late last night, I was 77% in, it was 5am, I had tears running down my face & called it quites for the night. Those scenes, the RAW emotions just set me off, read it & you'll understand. I picked it up today & finished the first (well second) part of Declan's story, with a few more tears & a MAJOR cliffhanger at the end. I kept trying to turn the page to see if there was more..... I loved every second of this book & can't wait for the next book in "Declan Reede: The Untold Story"!!

After reading the prequel, I was really looking forward to reading this. The #0.5 volume of this book left so much to be desired that you really would want to jump in and read the next one right after finishing it.

I find this next installment to the series even much more intense than the introduction. The characters are far from being perfect but you can perfectly feel their emotions. Not only did the story progressed in this one, the characters have also grown from the previous volume to this one. Their development might not all geared to positive growth but that was what made more real and easy to relate too.

I really love how the story progressed. From a bit sweet and a little annoying teenagers going to the early stage of being an adult to actually being an adult with all the hang ups and the baggage, the story flowed very smoothly. Truth is, I have some misgivings about Alyssa during the beginning of the series but I have learned to admire her on this book. I felt heartbroken for Declan but somehow I want to blame him too.

But no, not really. The truth is I want to blame the Dad. I don’t know why none of them are questioning him but I felt like the way that Alyssa and Declan parted the way they was actually his fault and I keep wondering why none of them is shoving that truth in his (the dad) face.

I really really enjoyed the story. I feel along with the characters. The conflict was also very wonderfully woven that it didn’t feel like it was planted or manipulated. I may have cringe with the way Declan curses throughout the book but I heard that’s natural for Aussie’s but I don’t know I feel like he curses too much.

All in all, it was nice to witness the journey of Alyssa and Declan’s story and I can’t wait to see what more awaits them.

    WOW.

Words cannot express how giddy, sad, and excited this book makes me…strap in and get ready, because this series will take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions!

Oh, man. THIS BOOK!! I can tell you right now that it’s awesome and you should read it, but I should probably tell you a little more about it, hey?

Four years after choosing his career over his girlfriend, after becoming a driver for Sinclair Racing, Declan Reede is slipping into his decline. A new girl every night? Binge drinking when nothing goes right? Why not?! But when he gets a chance to right his wrongs, he gives it all he’s got. There are surprises along the way, and even though he’s a total jerk, there are scenes where he’s less of a jerk and makes my heart go all gooey…

Declan’s use of the f-word is atrocious, but it fits his character perfectly; not just added for effect.

The author’s writing is like a breath of fresh air, and the characters are far from flat and boring. Declan and Alyssa seem so real to me, that I spent days thinking about them, after finishing Decline.

    So, yeah, go read it!!

I had a lot of fun reading Decline, especially the steamy bits. Though I often wanted to give Declan a slap upside the head, I kept rooting for him to win his girl back. I'll definitely check out Book 2!

Four years after making the decision to leave his home town behind, all of Declan Reede's dreams have come true. Unapologetically foul-mouthed and well known for his off-track antics, his success seems unstoppable. At least until Queensland Raceway and a chance sighting of the girl who once held his heart. Now, getting around the track seems an impossible battle as he struggles to return to his previous form. With his career racing downhill faster than his V8 on Mount Panorama, there's more than just his reputation on the line.

What will it take to put the brakes on his decline?

**Due to strong language and sexual content not intended for anyone under age of 18**

Michelle Irwin knows how to get into the head of young man that is going off the rails as a war rages between his heart and his head. This all starts when he sees her again in his home town. This is a true blue Aussie story.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of THOSE books
Reviewed in Australia on September 27, 2015
Have you ever read a book and KNOWN, absolutely known, that it was a five-star read before you reach the end? This is one of THOSE books for me.

I started this book much like I finished the previous one in the series - dying to slap some sense into Declan for being...well, an *rse. The man's a mess and the only thing he does well is driving - and he can't even do that any more. And if he thought he had issues...they're nothing to what's waiting in the wings. Declan's life is spinning out of control and not even he knows how to break the cycle.

Yet Ms Irwin is the sort of master storyteller who dragged me deep into his psyche even as I despaired for him, to the point where I was definitely in floods of tears...but I still couldn't stop reading.

With plenty of unexpected twists and turns, Declan's life is the one racetrack he can't afford to crash on...but as the series isn't done yet, he still has a long way to go before he reaches the finish line. I'm dying to be there when he does, though - and can't wait for the next book in the series.
