Delicate Love: The Stonewater Series, book 1 Kindle Edition
For Samuel Edwards, being orphaned at a very young age meant that he found his own way in life. He lives it as he pleases, no room for relationships, no belief in love. It was never a part of his life. He’d never craved it, and never missed it. Until one night when he meets his match with Kenzie, she has the same rules, same fears.
They are both void of love, both not even searching for anything else.
Fate brings them together, and thirty-six questions ignite a spark in them both.
Could thirty-six questions lead to love? It was an experiment worth exploring.
Now they are playing a game, a game that suggests more, but is it more than they have bargained for?
** This book is Part 1 in a series, but is a stand-alone. There is no cliffhanger.
**This book contains some sexual content and disturbing situations. Over 18 years recommended.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2017Mackenzie Tillar doesn't believe in love. She was raised by her aunt from the age of 10 and as she got older she seemed to find solace in one-night stands and not letting anyone get attached to her.
Samuel Edwards has a hard time getting attached to any woman and isn't very good at love and relationships. When he rescues Mackenzie from a drunk guy at a bar the two begin to ask each other questions and end up having a one-night stand that results in Mackenzie leaving.
Yet fate as different plans for the two. As both reside in Stonewater they each are going on with their lives unknowingly that the other lives in the same town. Mackenzie begins seeing Matt Lensall, her realtor and Sam decides he is ready for a relationship with Taylor.
But for both Mackenzie and Sam they are drawn to the other and can they just be friends and continue with their questions? Will both believe in love and realize what they have together could actually make it? When an event happens that puts everything in a tailspin will they finally give love a chance?
I really enjoyed this book and watching both Mackenzie and Sam overcome their fears for a chance at love.
I loved Mackenzie and watching the change in her from really having no self-worth to evolving into someone who realized that they were worth real love. Although the book explains Mackenzie's promiscuous past, in this book she is only with two men but a lot is alluded to. She knows that she has no attraction to Matt but she feels bad and is also hurt by Samuel which gives Matt a way in. I liked how Mackenzie's Aunt Sophie and cousin Zoe give her hell when she needs it and it really makes Mackenzie re-evaluate her stance on life and love.
I really liked Samuel as well. I understood why he felt like he needed to give Taylor a fair chance at a relationship but he knew he couldn't stop thinking about Mackenzie and he needed to figure out what his heart really wanted. But he thought Mackenzie was involved with Matt and therefore didn't have a chance. Yet through the questions we realized how similar Sam and Mackenzie really were and that was why they were drawn to each other.
I had a feeling that Matt could turn out the way he did and I really liked how/who ended up being there at the end to help with the situation.
I absolutely loved the story behind the picture!!
Definitely looking forward to more books in this series!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2016This was my first time reading anything by Josephine Brierley and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this great story. Josephine Brierley has given us a touching story that will suck you in and hold you there from start to finish, and will leave you wanting more. This story is about chance meeting ,horrific pasts, and circumstances ,these happen when different decisions are made and when life is left hanging in balance. Everyone needs to take a risk sometime in their life and let past things go and in brace the future ever when unknown ,and don't repeat the past and don't pass up being happy with that someone special. This is Mackenzie's and Samuel's touching story of love and happiness. Mackenzie has closed her heart off from love ,and she believes that love make's you weak and vulnerable and she doesn't want any part of that. She is scared so bad that's why she doesn't let anyone get close to her ,and why she doesn't let herself get close to anyone that is until Samuel . All it was support to be was a one night stand .Her plan was to never meet or think of him again. But she knows fate will throw them back together when she moves back to her home town . Samuel wasn't never interested in an relationship ,that wasn't a one night stand. Samuel lost his poor family in an tragic accident and was raised in froster homes ,make him rather live life this way. But the night that him and Mackenzie had together make him rethink life. Just maybe deep down he does want to settle down and have a family and be happy. As I'm reading this story I found myself hope that their fine happiness and I was hoping that he could break down the walls she had build around her heart . The emotions that this story will made you feel are heartache ,trust, loyalty, love, these are all things that Mackenzie was ever show by anyone not even her mother which is wrong. A mothers love is support to be unconditional ,but Mackenzie's mother was different then most mothers. I felt like I need to hug her and say give him the chance to show you love or slap her upside the head and say don't be stupid and don't let him walk away hold on tight. Josephine Brierley has written this story so well that it will have you with tears downing down your cheeks ,laughing ,and sitting on the edge of your seat wanting to know whats going to happen next. I could go on and tell you more about this touching story ,but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this great story, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVED IT!!!
I have to say that I was captivated by this story from the off.. The book was well written, the characters very likable, the premise was interesting, the connection between our leading couple was obvious and believable from the get go and the slow build to their friendship/relationship/whatever-you-want-to-call-it kept me engaged throughout. I didn't want to put my kindle down, even when I had to....
Samuel Edwards is on a weekend trip with some buddies with the aim of getting away from work and having some fun. Mackenzie Tillar is moving back to her hometown and is on an overnight stop when she heads to a bar for a few drinks. Neither do relationships and they don't believe in love. A one night stand is all they are looking for when they fall into their shared night at the beginning of the book but fate has a very different idea in mind for this pair.
I loved the 36 questions. Both characters had had a rough time growing up, each experiencing their own share of heartbreak and loss that shaped their lives and gave them the thoughts and beliefs that they had when they first met. Finding out more about both Sam and Mackenzie through the answers to the questions and the thoughts they both had every time they ran into each other as well as the spark, attraction and feelings these meetings brought out led to an fantastic read.
The story takes place over a number of months and though it was a relatively short period of time, things didn't feel rushed. There was a slow burn to their friendship and an intense insight into the other that isn't usually found until you've known a person for a while. During the time that they are getting to know each other there are a few hitches that make it seem as if any chance of them becoming more than friends could be knocked on the head - trust, faith and belief are in short supply at points and things happen that are quite unexpected that have an impact, both good and bad, on the couple..
This book would have been a 5* (rather than 4.5*) for me but for Mackenzie's attitude and reluctance to take a chance on Sam even when it's obvious he is looking for something more and is serious about her. Don't get me wrong, I got that things had been difficult for her but I just wished she'd have been more willing to let go of the past a little quicker; however, that didn't detract from my love of the story or how much I liked her character overall.
There was a good supporting cast made up of Sam and Mackenzie's friends and family. Some real characters in there and I'm guessing that these guys and gals are gonna be featured as heavily in future books.
This is the first book by Jo Brierley that I've read (but I know that it's definitely gonna be a reread for me going forward) and I'm looking forward to more in this series already! If you haven't yet picked up this fab read, do it now - you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed the evolution of the characters
This book had me hooked from the first page. I enjoyed the evolution of the characters. They were endearing and it was easy to lose yourself in their life, their story. There was a lovely little twist along the way and there was resolution by the end. It was exciting, it was fun, it made me laugh and made me cry. I couldn't put this book down and can't wait for the next book in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars I thought this book was fantastic, I really got sucked in to the characters ...
Totally shocked.
From a mans perspective who doesn't read romance novels. I thought this book was fantastic, I really got sucked in to the characters and I thought that hearing from both their points of view was terrific. I couldn't put down, I think it's a must read.
