This book takes you in a journey of allt he feelings in the world. Didn't Expect You, is the sequel to Against All Odds, and it plays out thestory from Nate's and Nyx's POVs. If in the first book they just get to know each through work related stuff, well now, things get a little bit different. Apparently, Nyx's life really turns an 180 in a blink of an eye and she thinks that nothing will ever be the same again. But she forgets that in Nate she can truly trust. Being a lawyer is never easy, but working for someone as selfish as your boss is quite....hellish. Add to it an unexpected pregnancy with a someone who don't want anything to do with anymore...and there you have it The most self-destructive recipe, unless you have someone trully remarkable by your side to remind you that everything's going to be ok. Nate, on the other hand, while still helpleslly falling for her, has to keep himself away from her, will find the strength to do so in order to not mess things up for his brother, as he previously "promised". A past he wishes to forget,but won’t let him, and probably the most beautiful future. I swear this book made me cry, made me laugh, made want to punch someone at certain moments...but most of all made me fall in love with the characters' love story. (Also, it brought back memories from the delivery room as well :-) ).

    This may be the slowest of slow-burn romances in the history of romantic fiction. And you won’t find a lot of goods sampling before undying love is declared, but never worry. These two have so much chemistry buzzing and arcing between them that your Kindle is sure to do its own share of melting. Nyx Brassard and Nate Chadwick may be the last two people who should work as a couple, but together they're AH-MAZ-ING!

    Nyx is a high-powered attorney looking to make partner and the glue that keeps her loveable but free-spirited family together. She’s had a few interactions with thrill-seeking billionaire Nate, in the form of contract negotiations for her sister Persy and brother Eros. All of that changes when A) Nate decides Nyx needs some fun in her life and B) Nyx discovers she’s pregnant from a one-night stand with the nephew of her horrible boss. Trust me, we're all wondering what the h-e-double-toothpicks she was thinking!

    Nyx has a lot of life changes thrown at her at one time, and Nate has a steamer trunk full of baggage to work through, but somehow, they’re perfectly suited for each other. And against all opinions and threats from just about everyone in their families, Nate is by Nyx's side every step of the way. No matter what problems or road blocks come up (and boy, oh boy, there are a lot), they balance each other beautifully and the challenges cause them to grow individually and become stronger together.

    I was already a fan of this writer's work but this story is next-level phenomenal. The characters are relatable and mature, and I love how they handled everything that came their way. Nyx and Nate's story is funny and self-deprecating but has such poignancy, tenderness and beauty that my heart couldn’t help but happy sigh. I expected a lot from this talented lady, but I didn’t expect this. I’m still wowed by this story and in awe of this storyteller’s skill.     Nyx is career driven and family distracted. Nate has his work/play life well balanced but is slightly damaged by the women who were supposed to love him. When Nyx finds herself unemployed and pregnant from a one- night stand, she finally accepts the help that has always been there but can’t bring herself to take a chance a love. Nate, drawn to Nyx, is still wounded by family trauma and a would- be bride who pulled a Ross at the wedding.

    Didn’t Expect You is a sweet, slow burn, friends to lovers romance. Drama is kept to a minimum but there is a smidge of angsty suspense towards the end.

    What worked for me – the characters were likeable and nobody ran away without asking questions or communicating. While feelings were unspoken for most of the book, they were acknowledged in a way that prevented me from wanting to jump into the book at slap people. The emotional turmoil was proportionate to the conflict, which is refreshing.

    What frustrated me – The bulk of the story takes place over the span of 9 months but the pacing was a bit uneven and mildly tedious at times. It started off steady and things were moving until the middle. I felt the middle of the book just kind of ambled along and the story fell a little flat for me. Most of the decision making, action, drama, and angst was saved for the final 50 or so pages of the book, leaving me feeling like it was rushed.

    Overall, I enjoyed Nyx and Nate as a couple and the sweetness of how their relationship grew was lovely and enjoyable. I especially appreciate that the angst and drama was kept to a bare minimum given the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy. I think the word that really sums it up for me is GENTLE and I mean that in a good way. In a world that feels so melodramatic and angsty on its own, maybe we all need a little gentle in our library.
