Thoughts: Wow, talk about hard to put down. There are so many twists and turns in this story that just keep you glued to the page. The shock at the end, wow, there were so many secrets that came to light and I wasn’t even close to figuring it out. It definitely reminds you that you really don’t know someone and what they are capable of doing. Elle seemed so real, the living in a bubble yet knowing why but still taking risks like any normal teenager. It was almost hard to believe that it was fiction. I will definitely be checking out more books by this author.

After reading Danielle R Mani's 1st book the divine one, I was eager to start reading the Divine Heart. I just love how relatable these stories are to true teenagers. This book had many twists, that kept you wanting to read more. It was so good that I purchased a copy for each of my 6 nieces!

Elle Collins has been dying her whole life. The only thing that can save her is a heart transplant which means someone else has to die. When it was almost too late a donor becomes available and Elle gets her new heart. What she doesn't expect is to be connected to that donor in a supernatural way. The donor talks to her and leads her to find out the mystery behind her death. Elle is surprised to find that the mystery is very close to home.

In an Oyster Shell - A book with great suspense and a supernatural storyline that is slightly subtle.

The Pearls - I liked the concept of the story that's why I chose to read it. I was not disappointed. Having a girl be connected paranormally to her heart donor was interesting and well executed.

The characters were distinct and well developed. Elle was a good character to empathize with. She was also very smart and figured out what was going on. I liked her neighbor who also turned into a love interest. The supporting characters were well-defined and added depth to the story.

I liked the mystery that I found in the story. I was reading it more for the paranormal aspect but it had an intriguing plot line.

Danielle R. Mani has an amazing talent with her words without giving away too much so readers wouldn't have much clue what could possibly happen next or what direction the story would go. She meant to surprise you until the very end because she's like her own detective solving a nut case. And as a reader, your take home is to enjoy the ride and feel the most out of every suspense, every rush and every thrill you will get with her story.

The Divine Heart is a rare mix of YA paranormal and thriller with a striking plot and a never ending air of tension and mystery. Once you started it, you aim to finish the book right away. Even the title and the cover illustration is deliciously enigmatic calling for a riddle. A refreshing read for those who watched and loved Melinda Gordon of The Ghost Whisperer.

***Thank you to Danielle R. Mani for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review!

Just a reminder that this will be a spoiler-free review of The Divine Heart by Danielle R. Mani.

I want to preface this review by saying that YA Paranormal novels are not generally my go-to area for reading enjoyment. However, when Danielle reached out to me I could not deny that I was very intrigued by the premise of the book (also, that beautiful cover!)

I really enjoyed Elle and I liked how the author didn’t glamorize her sickness. We get the sense at the very start of the story that this protagonist has been through medical hell since she was born, and the fact that she has overcome all of that is why she becomes such a well-received character. That’s not to say, however, that there were aspects of the book that I felt could have used a bit more fleshing out. I would have liked to see a bit more detail about her disorder and treatment, but obviously, it’s not always easy to include that much backstory/information in a novel (especially one of such short length like this one).

I really really enjoyed the fact that the love interest was a person that Elle was already close with! The friends-to-lovers trope is common in contemporary stories but I find that it is less common in paranormal stories, so this was a refreshing twist. It also allowed us to get to know them better as a couple because we had a lot more time to engage with them (rather than if Elle had to meet a completely new person).

In terms of the plot, I found it completely intriguing. I absolutely loved the idea of Elle connecting with the deceased girl (Cas) and learning through her. (It gave me a lot of The Host by Stephanie Meyer vibes– which I loved!) Mani manages to continuously engage and surprise the reader as the story progresses which is a huge nod to her storytelling skills.

Although I did find that the pacing could be off at times and that there were a lot of expanded/run on sentences from time to time, overall I found this book very satisfying. I think if you are a person who enjoys paranormal stories with a touch of romance that you should definitely check this book out!

    * Disclaimer: I did receive a free copy of this book to review, however, my thoughts and opinions are entirely my own and the result of my own personal reading experience.

The Divine Heart by Danielle R. Mani pulled me in immediately with its first person witty narrative of a high school senior wryly tackling her senior year, crushes, and heart disease. When she receives a heart transplant, she is mysteriously recruited to solve an otherworldly mystery. Honest characters, flowing dialogue, relatable relationships, and jabs of emotion and shocking twists made me want to binge read it. My one issue, which made me waver between 4 and 5 stars in this review, was that mental illness of one of the characters was portrayed as an evil and unmanaged cause of conflict, which I think did not do the character or the illness justice. I received a free review copy of this book.
