4.4 out of 5 stars 44 ratings

They say everyone is afraid of something.

For Margo Collins, it’s ghosts–though she’s never admitted that to anyone.

But this Halloween, Margo finds that ghosts are the least of her worries.

First, the annual Halloween party at her high school falls into chaos, and now someone is invading her sanctuary… the library!

As an elaborate plot starts to unfold, the only people Margo can be sure of are her two best friends. But can a trio of first-time sleuths thwart the plan of a criminal mastermind?

And if they fail, will Margo become what she fears most? A ghost!

Diane has spent the last several years in her secluded writing cave in Texas, guarded by her pocket-sized panther, Bear. Her writing cave is carefully disguised as a suburban house, and house panther Bear can take on the appearance of a common domestic cat. He might appear small, but his stare can stop a speeding bullet. The house-cave is insulated by wall-to-wall books, providing a quiet space for stories to come to life. After decades of dreaming about it, Diane recently started to write and publish her own books. When she ventures out now, even to forage for food, hordes of story ideas track her down and follow her home. These days, Diane spends her waking hours plotting, writing, and editing her books, and dreaming up even more ideas when she falls asleep. She’s loving every minute of it.

This was a fun read. Diane’s characters are quirky and surprising like real authors tend to be. This story is high on sweetness and low on spice. Perfect for the more wholesome readers.

I didn't realize this short story was for teens when I borrowed it from Kindle Unlimited. It was cute with an original storyline, though. I recommend it.
