Double Dead by Dawn: Scottish Ghost Castle Mysteries - Book 2 Kindle Edition

4.8 out of 5 stars 37 ratings

Two murders. One angry ghost. An impossible choice.

After a bumpy start, mystery writer Margo Collins has settled into life in the Highlands castle of her dreams. Life has seemed brighter for everyone on the estate since Nigel, the resident curmudgeon, left for London—and Lachlan, the castle’s handsome laird, has decided to keep it that way.

But someone else is desperate for Nigel to return, and she's willing to torment the living, even destroy her former home, to get her way.

When Nigel suddenly reappears, the once-pompous, middle-aged Englishman looks like a ghost himself. And when he becomes the prime suspect in a murder, Lachlan is caught in the middle—between a once-friendly lawman, now intent on hauling the irritating, but innocent, Nigel off to jail, and the troubled ghost who will do anything to keep him at the castle.

Can the castle sleuths clear Nigel of murder? And if they succeed, will they be stuck with him forever?

Diane has spent the last several years in her secluded writing cave in Texas, guarded by her pocket-sized panther, Bear. Her writing cave is carefully disguised as a suburban house, and house panther Bear can take on the appearance of a common domestic cat. He might appear small, but his stare can stop a speeding bullet. The house-cave is insulated by wall-to-wall books, providing a quiet space for stories to come to life. After decades of dreaming about it, Diane recently started to write and publish her own books. When she ventures out now, even to forage for food, hordes of story ideas track her down and follow her home. These days, Diane spends her waking hours plotting, writing, and editing her books, and dreaming up even more ideas when she falls asleep. She’s loving every minute of it.

This kept me guessing. Interesting blend of past and present murder mysteries. Plus one pissed off ghost. The main characters are interesting and engaging. I'd love to meet them and visit the castle too. This book was rich, multilayered and hard to put down. Thank you Diane Lewis for creating this delightful world. Eager for more!

I like that the story moves quickly. I was able to get to know each character a little better after reading this book. The story held my attention the entire time I was reading it. So, if you like to read a story that keeps you engaged and includes a ghost you should pick up this book.

The second book in the series is a great continuation of the story line. The setting in the castle and the deepening relationships among the characters is really nicely written. The story goes at a nice pace and takes interesting twists and turns. A nice, lighthearted read that kept me engaged throughout! Very enjoyable.

Yes, the ghost wants her death explained but the way this author tells the tale is extraordinary and may even haunt the reader. I'm looking forward l the next book in the series.
