Double Vision - Collected Short Stories Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 3 ratings

Take a wander through the darker side of our human condition. Travel through near futures where computers are alive, entertainment is ruthless, and moral lines are blurred.
DOUBLE VISION is a short collection of shorter stories and flash fiction. Some you’ll have seen in the wild, others are brand new to this book and eager for your eyes. Featuring sixteen tales knitting together 16,000 words, there’s lunch-time length nuggets of horror, science fiction and the occasional side-order of humour.
DOUBLE VISION also includes an exclusive extract from GRIND SPARK, a near future dystopian novel coming Summer 2016.

About the Author

Tamara burns away her spare hours putting one word after another, vomiting into Photoshop, and partaking of an occasional beer. She likes cheese, is looked after by a certifiably strange cat, and may have an unhealthy relationship with Twitter. Currently dividing her time over various works in progress, she dabbles in science fiction, transgressive fiction and all things weird. Her debut novel GRIND SPARK, due for release in Summer 2016, was longlisted for the Bath Novel Award 2014. Published in places including The Alarmist Magazine and the New Scientist Culture Lab website, you can find her blogging at www.thedustlounge.com. If you prefer conversations with fewer characters she's on Twitter as @tamrogers. Fair warning, she may tweet in pyjamas.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fast-paced glimpse into the future

I enjoyed this collection very much; dystopia and tech mixed with a good dash of grim humour.

I particularly liked a run of stories in the middle, which I thought were very strong: Double Vision, When The Sun Falls In Streamers, Straw Man and Blood Stains Grouting.

The excerpt from Grind Spark was great, but I would have liked even more stories!

5.0 out of 5 stars Double Vision - Easy Decision

How would I describe Double Vision? It's a collection of fantastic near-future tales delivered with panache by Tamara Rogers.
The writing is tight and urgent, the characters highly believable and well developed.
The settings are vivid and Rogers uses snippets of technology available today (and being developed for tomorrow), to gaze into our future. My favourite was probably the title story, Double Vision, but all have their merits.
I loved the exhilarating high-octane pace; it felt like drinking extra-strength caffeine before riding an F1 simulator.
The book contains a preview from her forthcoming book, Grind Spark, and judging by the quality of Double Vision, I can't wait to read it.

A superb collection of off-the-wall short stories -- some funny, some grim. It deserves five stars but... there's not enough of it! More, please, from this author, and I can't wait for the full version of 'Grindspark' as promised.
