Dragon Frost starts off ten years after Sybl's coming to Aster, and instead of her this time, we get to follow her brother, Nafury. While he's mentioned a lot before, I was happy to see him take the spotlight this time around. The atmosphere is a lot darker as with a certain goddess missing, Aster is slowly falling back into darker times. It's also a lot harder to survive, as dragons, phelan, chimeras and awls are all trying to kill each other again. Nafury is stuck in the middle of this mess, and it gets worse when both his few friends and enemies prove to be weak against the power of a much more dangerous threat. His latest found Fay proves to be a handful herself, and when Kenshe gets involved, things just gets crazy. Kenshe and Nafury were like the unstoppable force versus the unmovable object. Their banter singes each other like a fire out of control. It was hard to predict if they would team up or kill each other the next minute, all the while in an amusing fashion.

While those two were fun, I had a hard time connecting with Ubi. Her character is shifty, and though she has her reasons, I didn't have much sympathy for her. Xirel was one of my favorite elf-like characters from the trilogy, and I did enjoy seeing him again in Frost. The ending is a cliffhanger that leaves a heavy question in the air, and I hope to see just what will happen next.
