Dying for Business: A Mixed Media Mystery Book 1 Kindle Edition

4.8 out of 5 stars 13 ratings

Susan Hale, a recent transplant from New York, manages a historic inn in a small town in the Colorado Rockies. The murder of a New York businessman and guest at the inn puts Susan and her best friend Meg, a local mixed media artist, in the middle of a murder investigation.

Susan wants the murder solved quickly to avoid problems with her boss and protect her reputation with the other Pine Grove residents. When Susan gets sidetracked with problems at the inn, money missing from the inn’s accounts, a trip to the hospital, and a little romance, Meg steps in to help keep the investigation moving forward.

But when Meg and the police chief focus their attention on Susan’s friend and landscape contractor as the prime suspect, Susan considers reaching out to a contact from her past that might have information concerning another possible suspect. Susan would rather keep her past life in New York separate from the new life she’s created in Pine Grove. Is arresting a killer worth revealing secrets of her past life?

Hi! Thank you for wanting to learn a bit about me and my books.

This first series, Mixed Media Mysteries, is a cozy mystery series set in a small town nestled in the Colorado Rockies. Residents welcome visitors to enjoy the serenity of Rocky Mountain National Park--at least until the bodies start showing up. Pick up a book and your favorite beverage and settle in to learn about art and life in a small town, and reinforce the feeling that justice does prevail.

My husband and I split our time between the Colorado mountains and the city. We live in a condo in the city. In the mountains, our home is a log cabin complete with covered front porch. I think this mix is the best. When we feel the need to connect to nature, we head to the mountains. For some buzz and nightlife, we stay in the city.

My Facebook and Instagram are filled with posts and pics about attending live music, drinking craft beer or wine, mountain scenery and wildlife, and art. Every now and then, I worry that I’m going to find myself in the middle of an intervention (there are MANY, MANY pics of beer and wine). Hopefully, most people realize the in terms of volume I don’t drink a lot – just often (very often).

I like the feel of breweries and tap rooms. I like the people that are patrons and those that work in these establishments. So, I hang out at breweries both at home and when we travel. The fact that we can walk to multiple breweries and a winery from either our condo in the city or cabin in the mountains makes things easy. (Too easy?)

“Dying for Business” was truly a spectacular book to read! I found the richness of this book was in the fantastic details that truly ignited and excited my imagination. I felt as though I were in every scene, witnessing, the story first-hand as it progressed. It takes a gifted writer to accomplish that so successfully! The intrigue was wonderful too! I must say that I don’t ordinarily gravitate towards a murder mystery. However, this one seemed compelling and it delivered! The story was attention capturing, without overly gruesome details. I can’t wait until Shannon Lembke’s next book! As children's Author SissyMarySue, I am eager to behold the talent of other writers. I admire the skill and imagination it took to write such a compelling, exciting novel! A sincere congrats to you Shannon Lembke!

This book was a gift. The mystery was well-written and I like how every scene flowed smoothly from chapter to chapter. The characters were lively and likable. I enjoyed how the author describes the mountains and surrounding areas making me feel like I am really there experiencing the scenery. It was a great read. I would recommend it to all of my friends.

Great ability to develop detailed characters and setting succinctly. Neglected all my adult responsibilities for the day while I sat absorbed in the book! Looking forward to the second book in the series!
