About the author

Ian has visited more than 50 countries so far, connecting with people from all over the globe. Sharing stories, experiences, and music with those he crossed paths with. Taking on the role of an observer of people and reality.
He noticed that despite the cultural and language differences, we all strive for the same things; better connections with one another and fulfillment.
After all, humans are social creatures. Driven by dreams and aspirations.
His dream is to help people connect and support each other. He does this through creating music that brings people together in joy, and books that teach people how to build better relationships with others.
Ian spent more than ten years studying sociology, and investigating communication, and mindful goal achievement.
Specifically, focusing on how ANYONE can achieve their dreams and goals by mastering communication and mindfulness.
He doesn’t claim to know it all and be perfect. In fact, Ian had to overcome shyness, communication issues, and blockages himself. That’s what makes his work compassionate and realistic.
He is determined to share his knowledge and experience with as many people as possible. That’s why he divides his time between consulting in the Human Resources sector, coaching, and writing.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2017The study of our brain is fascinating. I think you might call it the new frontier in both physiological and psychological points of view. In its most simplistic state, the brain is a mass of gray matter which resides in our head. It is the control center of our motor functions and intelligence. What makes it incredibly complex is this non-physical thing called the mind. Enter EQ and Ian Tuhovsky’s book EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE: A Practical Guide to Making Friends with Your Emotions and Raising your EQ.
I like the notion of “making friends” with your emotions. I like to think of it this way: the brain is the machine, the mind is a cocktail of emotional lubricants that run us ragged from one extreme to the other. To say that I enjoy a “friendly” relationship with my emotions may be stretching it.
In this book on Emotional Intelligence, Ian explains and then shows us how we can in fact be the masters of our mind, control our emotions and yes, become friends. He begins with a basic, simple exercise on how to identify feelings fed by fear, anxiety, stress, happiness, joy, and more. This image centered exercise takes us through a gamut of emotions, imagery manipulation, dealing with the situation, and finally control. It can be anchored in the past, or future cast. I tried this exercise over a few days and found that yes, I can become friends with my emotions.
That is just one of the exercises. I have earmarked the book for daily use. Master one exercise and take on another. Each one integrates with the other. Instantly actionable these exercises will increase your confidence and help you make good decisions in your life. Highly
recommend this book.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2015This book would benefit everyone. Having some emotional issues or not, Emotional Intelligence Training book can give you good information which can be very useful for your everyday life; socially, at work, with family and even on a personal level.
I admire Ian Tuhovsky's dedication to writing books of good quality. I have read most of his books and all of them were written intelligently, well-researched, thought of carefully and always were written with good intentions.
I liked every chapter of this book. The exercises were easy to follow, the LBR was fun and I am looking forward to do the other exercises with my friends and family. This book full of information and ideas which are really helpful, as well as techniques and exercises which are proven to be effective. Excellent! I highly recommend it!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2015Emotional Intelligence; A Practical Guide To Making Friends With Your Emotions and Raising Your EQ by Ian Tuhovsky appealed to me because of my own desire to increase my wisdom around emotional intelligence (even though I’m logically and intuitively aware that there are gifted and /or talented people who do not believe in emotional intelligence). I’m always thirsting for knowledge as other people do and feel fortunate that I’m married to a supportive spouse who is understanding and encouraging of me studying various topics (such as those involving emotional intelligence). The following are some of the topics discussed in this book;
The authors discussion of emotional intelligence (EQ) that was made popular by Daniel Goleman (pages 22-25).
Chapter 7-Is This Thought Real-The authors explanation of reframing thoughts for better outcomes (pages 60-65).
Chapter 15- How To Forgive (starts on page 123)- I’m still in the process of improving my ability to let go and forgive. However, I can truly say that I’m at least improving in this area compared to just a year ago. The author explains a way to see the positive intent behind whatever experience triggers the forgiveness test.
Chapter 17 Perceptual Positions are discussed and the multiple sides of the story facet (starts on page 132).
- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2015This is a book loaded with wisdom that will give you ways to understand your thoughts, why you think that way, deal with your internal conflicts, and embrace positive emotions. What's more, it systematically teaches you to go through your own thinking process, guides you to analyze it, and helps you come up with effective and actionable solutions. One great feature of the book is that it comes with a lot of exercises you can take advantage of to implement different techniques mentioned throughout this book such as "re-framing", which means how to stop negative perceptions or emotions and establish new beliefs and positive emotions. This is also a book of motivation that will help you become more positive, peaceful and intelligent should you follow the teachings within the book.
I highly recommend this book to anyone!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2015Its a good practical book but not one I curl up with at night. I put it down and haven't finished it yet. I fully intend to finish it but it doesn't answer my needs at this time.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2016What do JK Rowling, Steve Jobs and Harland Sanders have in common? They failed. And they succeeded. Why? Because they are optimistic, courageous, embrace change and aren’t afraid of failure. Simply put, they have a high EQ. Do I want a better life? A happier, more fulfilling, more satisfying life/friendships/career? You bet! And this is why I am going through this book, chapter by chapter, exercise by exercise, as the author recommends and applying the lessons I’m learning. What do I have to lose? What does anyone have to lose? Am I right?
- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2020I was able to get help managing my anger from the first couple chapters in the book. Really appreciate how the author is straight forward and to the point. My therapist barely helped with my anger but this book has. Not the first book I bought for anger but will definitely be the last. Worth every penny.

I’ve tried to read several different books on EI, but found them difficult to follow and did not get many practical advices/exercises. This book was really easy to read and puts everything about EI in practice.
