Victoria DeLuis is a short story author and novelist, who loves reading – everything – and writing paranormal cosy mysteries, light urban fantasy, supernatural romantic suspense, and the occasional sci-fi.

She was born and raised in South Wales, where she still lives with her husband, daughter, three overlord cats and a doting dog. This offers her a rich heritage and mythology to use in her stories.

After the birth of her fabulous daughter, she decided to abandon the corporate life, return to education, and pursue her lifelong passion for writing. She studied creative writing and gained a first class honours degree and a Masters in Novel Writing.

She is now busy, busy, busy: Being a mum, writing (and doing all the additional tasks that come with publishing), and running her small book promotion site.

Her works include the Rune Witch Mysteries, the Independent Necromancers' Bureau, and the Relic Guardians (with Meg Cowley).

A different twist on a paranormal cozy mystery. More than one murder is solved. Familiars abound. I especially enjoyed how one familiar was able to shift. Got to love those familiars.

Eira has recently opened her shop, Crystal Magic, selling crystals, oils & her own combination of oils, herbs, teas & other items imbued with her magic as Eira is a witch. She purchased the shop with an upstairs apartment as well as a cottage with a courtyard just behind her shop where she lives. Her shop is getting a few customers but most of her business comes from online orders. Eira also has a cat familiar named Niles. She would really like to improve her instore sales so she’s agreed to deliver one of her remedies to a nearby address to encourage that. After delivering the item, Eira notices something a door standing open at the next apartment & discovers a dead body. After calling the police, she sees a cat hiding outside the entrance. Thus begins Eira’s efforts to aid in helping to find the person responsible for the murder. Eira manages to find an apprentice who rents the apartment over her shop & she finds a home for the cat who had belonged to the dead woman. Now to find out who murdered the cat’s owner. There are several twists & turns with more than a few suspects but the culprit remains elusive. A good, light read!

I liked the story. It was well thought out but there were a number of editing errors. I'm the kind of reader that has to correct the error before going to the sentence.

It took me awhile to get into this story. Some of Eira's behavior at the beginning with Fleur and Aaron didn't seem believable. After a couple of chapters the story became interesting. I felt that a little more backstory on Eira and Niles was needed.

Finding a woman's body not too long after she returns to her birthplace was not Eira's idea of a good omen. But it also piques her her curiosity. When the ghost of the woman tells her she was pushed down the stairs, Eira's is hooked. Oh yeah, Eira's is a witch. I enjoyed every minute of it!
