Enemy Within : The Executive Office #3 Kindle Edition
The president, running for his life.
A traitorous general, intent on burning the world to the ground.
When everything falls apart, who do you trust?
President Jack Spiers fled Washington DC on the heels of a devastating attack on CIA headquarters, masterminded by one of America’s own, former General Porter Madigan. While the world believes Jack was killed in the bombing, he embarks on a wild infiltration mission, smuggling himself into occupied Russia to rescue the love of his life: former Secret Service Agent and First Gentleman Ethan Reichenbach.
Reunited, Jack, Ethan, and deposed Russian president Sergey Puchkov, along with President Elizabeth Wall—the only person left in Washington DC who Jack trusts—must work together. They piece together a desperate plan, hunting Madigan to the ends of the earth and the bitter frigidity of the Arctic, where Madigan’s world-shattering doomsday plan comes together.
Outnumbered, outmaneuvered, and outgunned, Jack, Ethan, Sergey, and the rest of the team struggle to put a stop to Madigan and his army. In the desolate extremes of the Arctic, their resolve, their strength, and even their love is tested, pushed to the absolute limits as choices must be made: choices that pit the fate of the world against the love in their hearts, and the loves of their life.
As the world crumbles around them, Jack and Ethan find themselves waging a war on two fronts—against an enemy they can see, and another, hiding within their ranks.
Who can be trusted when the enemy is within you?

- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseEnemy Within picks up immediately where Enemy of My Enemy stops—detailing action-packed, hair-raising, gut-wrenching, intense, breath-holding scenes that pull you into the story, turning your life into mind over matter… YOU WILL BE hard-pressed to lay the book down.
Tal Bauer has set the bar for writing a series that could be a movie…the research and real life experiences that have gone into these scenes make these pages, literally, evolve into full-blown technicolor, exploding before your very eyes.
The details and descriptions, not only in this book but the entire series, are far above anything I’ve ever read giving you a pulse-pounding, adrenaline-seeking bookgasm that’s hard to explain. You just need to read the series for the full impact and experience.
As Jack and Ethan, Sasha and Sergey, Adam and Faisal, the three main couples, struggle to do their part in finding Madigan, you also have Scott, Welby, Anton, Alesky, Elizabeth Wall—just to name a few, all secondary characters—but no less important—who are working, just as diligently, to do their part in searching and investigating before time runs out. And time IS of the essence.
Enemy Within spends most of its time in the bitter, snow-capped mountains of Siberia where these remarkable, courageous, and brave men fight—not only extreme temperatures—but extreme and torturous blizzard conditions along with frozen rivers testing their skills, wit, love and devotion.
They must trust each other, even though that is one of the hardest things, at this point, to do. Deep within, there is a mole giving away their locations, their next move, always allowing Madigan the upper hand.
But who? Why? What do they have to gain? All of these questions are constantly in the background of your mind as the underlying tension runs parallel to the story.
Characters you love will become suspicious. Your own heart aches as you try to figure out who is back-stabbing these men while looking them in their eye.
With so many amazing action-packed and bone-chilling scenes, I literally envisioned Tal Bauer walking to the stage and receiving his Grammy for best scenes ever in the Honolulu.
Each book in this series, Tal Bauer has taken me to a particular location and dropped me right in the middle. In Enemy Within, I was on that submarine and felt the panic, the fear, as the Captain shouts orders. As his men shout back, I was reaching for a grab bar—which happened to be my dog’s leg, lol—but it was no less real.
Tears were pouring down my face as Jack and Ethan look to each other confirming their love
“Brace for impact” “Sound collision alarm” Torpedoes in the water!” are just a few of their shouts that will have your spine in knots and your hair tingling. To say it was intense would be an extreme understatement and some of the best descriptive writing and content I’ve ever read.
Enemy Within will take you inside the trenches where the worst of mankind congregate, inside the minds of brilliant leaders... you'll witness the strategic and elaborate undertakings play out, have you questioning who is friend or foe, but you never, at any time, lose the connection to the story as the author (aka freakin' genius) unfolds this spellbinding, intricately-woven, complex journey.
Ethan and Jack work together and become stronger than ever, solidifying a union that was destined from the start. If there were ever two people that belonged together it’s these two men who complete each other so selflessly and complement each other so beautifully.
But, Adam and Faisal really stole the limelight for me, in this edition. Their love has never been tested as it is now, and the depths each go for the other was/is astoundingly beautiful and brought ugly tears pouring down my face.
We also see Sergey struggle with a new reality, face fears and overcome hardships while Sasha fights with every bone in his body to be strong against his love for Sergey in favor of his pride and love for Russia.
My heart broke for both of these strong-willed men, Sasha especially, who has never recovered from the betrayal in Enemy of my Enemy. A betrayal that cut him deeply, and while his outer body may no longer be damaged, his inner self is still badly broken making the ability to trust nearly impossible.
Enemy Within should not be read out of order. You are doing a disservice to yourself—and the characters—if you choose to do so, and to the author for the time and research that has gone into making this series as factual and riveting as it is.
Book three wraps everything up and answers questions that have been left hanging but there are also areas left open should the author choose to continue. And, that would make me ecstatic because I could read about any of these characters from now on... especially from this author. I'm with them all the way. Characters and Author!
The Executive Office series is a compelling, thought-provoking, romantic suspense that exceeds the norm. The research the author has included is phenomenal and a representation of why it is truly superb. A must read and my favorite series of all time. This will be a movie one day! Tal Bauer…you are an amazing and awe-inspiring author!!

Wow. Just...wow. I absolutely loved this! A stunning conclusion for this thrilling and heart-wrenching series. I can't believe it's taken me this long to stumble upon this series and I just spent the last two days absorbing all three books (or four if you count the novella)!
In Enemy Within the stakes are the highest they've ever been and our guys have to pull out all the stops in order to make it through their adventure alive and save the world. The plot continues to keep you on your toes with its nail-biting suspense and misdirection. I was constantly paranoid, asking myself: "Who's a traitor??" "Who can we trust??" "Who's going to stab us in the back next??" "How can this mission possibly succeed??" More than once I gasped and cursed out loud during scenes.
It's obvious that a TON of research went into this series so kudos to Tal Bauer for making everything so believable and making me feel as if I were right there with the characters the entire time, despite not having ever been to these places or experienced any of the characters' circumstances. For whatever reason, the submarine scenes were especially vivid to me and had me clenched with tension the entire time I read them.
Jack and Ethan are without a doubt my favorite couple in this series, but I also really loved getting to see more of Adam/Faisal and Sergey/Sasha. Sergey and Sasha I was especially interested in seeing come together.
What I really loved about this series, besides the thrilling plot, was the characters themselves. They're diverse and just so interesting to read about (another kudos to Tal Bauer for writing a positive portrayal of a Muslim character in Faisal). I loved watching these characters grow, not only into their relationships, but also into themselves. Jack was especially wonderful to read about as he really explores himself and his feelings and comes to understand the kind of person he is. This is not a "Gay-For-You" story (thank god because I don't care for those). Jack is bi, but not only that, he comes to understand that he's demi-sexual which is amazingggg because no one ever writes about this part of the spectrum (a part that I, personally, identify with). For Jack, the gender of the person doesn't matter, it's the person themselves that he loves. There's no insta-lust or sexual attraction when he first meets someone. He has to get to know the person and make a connection with them in order to begin to feel something more and be sexually attracted to them. And that's exactly what happens with Jack and Ethan. Jack falls slowly...he doesn't fall in love with a man, he falls in love with his best friend. And the more he falls in love, the more sexually attracted he is to Ethan. So needless to say I am over the moon at how Jack's sexuality was portrayed throughout this series. Thank you Tal Bauer!
If you haven't read this series you are seriously missing out on something awesome! With its complex characters, gut-wrenching emotions, and thrilling plot, this series gets an A++ from me. The only thing that would make it better is if it were in audio! *crosses fingers*
Hopefully this isn't the last time we'll see these characters! I'd love to see little snippets/one-shots of their lives after the events at the end of Enemy Within.
Do yourself a favor and pick up this series ASAP!

Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI can't believe this is the last book in the series! I need more Ethan and Jack, Faisal and Adam, Sergey and Sacha. I've grown attached to all the characters, and the secondary characters are fantastic too. The plot is addictive and I couldn't put it down. I don't know what I'll do without this series now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Battle scenes that leave you breathless
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSubmarine battle scene.
It just really doesn't immediately 'pop', does it? Yet it has fast become my all time favourite. The author fast-tracks the novice reader into this mysterious world in a dynamic yet detailed way, making it easily relatable: from lingo, to code of honour, and just an extraordinary danger these people willingly put themselves in to every single day simply by doing their job. Infused with anguish and thrill, I had a knot in my stomach and couldn't, just couldn't drop the book until at least the sub battle was concluded, at 4am this morning.
Multiple battles happening simultaneously, multiple couples fighting for their lives, multiple sources of terminal danger for the world, my head was going to explode with all that was going on. Yet still found moments of tenderness and love (and heat!) for all the couples in the book.
Absolutely amazing. What a finale, BRAVO!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top notch thrilling espionage, political romantic thriller, worth the wait!!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseEnemy within, the third book in the Executive Office series. The long awaited third part of the fast paced, gripping, extremely well written and very thoroughly researched thrilling political romantic series.... and possibly not the final book ( I can definitely see where there may be another book to come, who knows, possibilities abound) I might add since book two finished on a dreaded cliffhanger, I have been very, very eagerly awaiting the arrival of this book. I pre ordered it I was so anxious to find out what would happen.
It was definitely worth the wait. Ms Bauer took my anxiety and stress on the mother of all roller coaster rides, I even shed a few tears through this up and down journey of good versus evil. So many wonderful characters, our leading men Ethan Reichenbach and Jack Spiers, oh my, they're just wonderful heroes, flawed, real and full of depth, with strength of character and devotion to each other, devotion to their country and for the good of everyone else. It was joy to see their relationship develop from Ethan falling in love right up to the last page in book three. Then the extra treats came: in the form of Adam and Faisal's relationship so damn good, and Sergey's and Sasha's long angst unfolding drama. I don't want to give anything away regarding the plot because it's such a bloody awesome ride, it's way better to read it all from book one start right to the finish and experience the full anxiety driven nail biting fight to the end.
What I do want to say is THANK YOU to Ms Bauer for such a wonderfully, brilliantly exciting, smoking hot series. Seriously one of the best romantic political thrillers I've ever read - it even knocked Mitch Rapp off my hero fan girl love affair spot and replaced him with Ethan Reichenbach and that's saying something!!!.
One total fan girl request, don't betray us by turning your best support character evil, or I'll never forgive you, and you know who I'm talking about...

5.0 out of 5 stars More than highly recommended.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseYou know that feeling when you have read a good book and it ends and you're falling into this hole, where you hesitate to start another book because no book can be as good as the one you've just finished? Now - imagine this at the end of the series of four books....and this is how I feel after finishing this series.
It's been a long time since I've read four books in a row that kept me so captivated that I couldn't - wouldn't put the books down.
This series can compete with the best thrillers - have you ever read Tom Clancy or Matthew Reilly? Clive Cussler? And you loved them? Fast paced, action filled? Men on missions?
Let me repeat this - fast paced, action filled - a complex story spanning over several books?
Now sprinkle some really good m/m love on top of it, sexy, solid, hot and you might have an idea what you are getting with this series.
One of the best, thrilling series in the m/m genre I've read (and geeeez...I've read a lot).
The series contains:
Enemies of the State
Interlude
Enemy of my Enemy
Enemy within
