Spy Thriller: Black Hawk Day Rewind: An action-packed spy thriller (Mark Savannah Espionage Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
Professor Zimmermann of the University of Buenos Aires has warned him: "They have been able to cover up the whole affair and destroy all the evidence".
Mark has discovered an extraordinary secret hidden deep in CIA director Colonel Reed's past and in the neural transplant operations of Biosketch Technologies Inc., a biotech company set up by Reed.
Mark came into contact with Biosketch Technologies Inc. and the diabolical Project “Transtem 1.1″ while studying civilian and military neural transplant patients. As Mark attempts to uncover the truth, he is pursued by Anaïs Degann, a CIA agent with orders to terminate him.
Project “Transtem 1.1″ is just the tip of the iceberg of Reed’s dark plans and, in order to get his life back, Mark has to break the ties connecting Colonel Reed with Colonel Kozlov of the Russian counterintelligence service.
Reed’s links to Russian intelligence threaten to compromise international security and Mark must stop him at all costs.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2015Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIn Black Hawk Day Rewind the characters are bigger than life – smart, deadly, fluent in many languages. They are able to cobble together advanced electronics out of odd parts, and always get a splash of luck when they need it. In this James Bond-like world, the spies have clever technical widgets you’ve never seen, and the lead characters can sweep a room of bugs in seconds.
Not everything is explained to the reader. I think we are meant to believe that these folks, always moving and always under attack, don’t have the leisure to stop, think and plan. They must respond to the immediate threat or they are dead.
The hero is brilliant yet haunted by the past, and manipulated by forces he doesn’t understand. He treats women so shabbily that we wonder why they are attracted to him, yet he shows enough compassion to let a key adversary live so she can again try to kill him. As a physician, he takes hopeless psychotic cases and they make startling progress in a single treatment. This is life in fast forward.
It’s a long book, with plenty of action and strongly drawn characters. There’s enough material here for several movies, and events are designed for dramatic visuals. There are plenty of murders, “cleaned up” by spy agency housekeepers, yet enough of the characters survive at the end to fuel a sequel. Even the surprise villain that emerges may appear again.
The first section is slowed by backstory, but the pace accelerates to a speed that will satisfy the most thrill-hungry reader. Recommended as a techno-thriller with fast-paced spy action.

Mark Savannah, aka Barnett Cooper. And Turner Cooper (dead father but still a strong influence on our star.)
The Vague Description (trying not to give plot spoilers)
Barnett, who did not have a good family life growing up (his father was killed in action when he was thirteen) grew up wanting to make his mark in the medical sciences. Except his past (and his father’s), comes back to stop him when he is trying to finish his PHD in London.
He is co-opted into MI6 and through various missions Barnett begins to uncover more of his father’s past and death, as well as uncovering a deadly programme using mind control experiments on transplant patients through the facade of a company called BioSketch Technologies.
This is a fast paced book, though I did not really care for Barnett Cooper, I did begin to warm to him when he became Mark Savannah. This is an action driven plot laced with global conspiracies where you will be rooting for this unlikable underdog to win!
Takeaway
Never take anything in your life at face value. Make it your business to find out more!
End Thought
I want to learn to fly, be it a plane or helicopter, it doesn't matter. Though, unlike Barnett, I AM scared of gravity.
This is a perfect read for a long weekend where you will not be rushed or continually on the go. This is a book where you will bite the head off anyone who interrupts you while reading it.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2014Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWell written and with intriguing characters, Black Hawk Day Rewind is one of those fast-paced books that yo have to read all in one sitting: the plot is deliciously complicated and full of twists and turns to constantly keep you on your toes.
Burnett Cooper is 13 years old when his father dies. He wasn't close to him, and in fact the man was a mystery to him. So he moves on and pursues a successful academic life until his father's death comes back to haunt him. Everything he believed about his parents is about to be turned upside down, as are the dreams he had for his career.
Burnett becomes M16 agent Mark Savannah and on the trail of a terrorist he gets whisked in dark secrets, murder, revenge, drugs, Russian intelligence, and a bioengineering scam involving neural transplants. A book that you would want to see turned into an action movie one day.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2016Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBlack Hawk Day Rewind: An Action Packed Spy Thriller (Mark Savannah Espionage Series Book 1) by Baibin Nighthawn and Dominick Fencer is a great first novel by these two writers that feels very clean and packed with action from the beginning to the end. Mark, our main character, discovers a deadly secret and is fighting for his life, pursued by the CIA and a ruthless assassin they send after him. We see the progression in the novel as our hero becomes Mark Savannah, and there is a lot of intrigue and espionage spread throughout to keep me interested.
It's also very clean and easy to read, though occasionally it gets bogged down in unnecessary details. I think some of the backstory could have been sprinkled into other sections of the novel, but nothing really felt unnecessary. This is a minor problem, however, and one which I feel is simply growing pains for new authors plying their craft. This book is a real winner and sure to delight fans of spy thrillers, and I look forward to seeing what they come out with next!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2016Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe plot could be excellent if it could be followed. The book reads as if translated into English by someone of another native tongue. Very confusing at times and many typos, poor sentence structure and just unreadable at times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Espionage at its best
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThere is nothing better for me than a story that hooks me and takes me on a fantastic journey, inviting me to keep on reading.
This novel is quick paced and keeps hitting you with mystery and intrigue as all spy novels should. Filled with the CIA, British intelligence, journeys into the magical Middle East, megalomaniacs abusing their positions of power, double-crossing agents, IT nerds and other well developed characters, make this a wonderful read.
Black hawk day rewind, is also extremely well researched across all the areas and I highly recommend it for lovers of espionage and thriller novels. Goes straight onto my list of awesome novels I have read in 2014

3.0 out of 5 stars Black Hawk Day Rewind Spy Thriller Fans will Enjoy this one
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBlackHawk Day Rewind has all the elements of an excellent spy thriller. The plot is well thought out will lots of suspense and drama. However, I'd like to see the authors avoid some hackneyed cliches which pop up and jar the reader out of the story. A more active voice would draw the reader deeper into the character POV as well. Rather than 'tell' the reader his emotions overwhelm him at the news of his father's death show the reader this by the character's reactions/actions. Over all, a decent read and fans of the genre will enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!

4.0 out of 5 stars Action packed spy thriller!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFor a first novel this is s really good thriller, with two very interesting MI6/CIA killers as the main characters - Mark and Anais. They both have their demons, in particular Mark, who had a father he didn't really respect, before he was killed in action when Mark was young. However, Mark discovers his father's life and death were not as he was initially led to believe and seeks out the truth.
Anais is a hot CIA sniper who hopes to complete one final mission and then be able to return to a more normal life. That mission is to eliminate Mark but she is being manipulated by a rogue CIA Director.
The plot is a good and one of the threads is about the CIA developing a biotech product which rings very true. There are also high-tech descriptions and a hacker that help make this thriller very topical.
If you like a twisting espionage thriller with well described good and bad characters, you will definitely enjoy this book.
