- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2023I’m reviewing the audio edition. It has taken me overnight to be able to sit down and actually try and put in writing my feelings about this story. I have listened to book one and two and was told this would be the correct order to listen to these. I like dark stories so I was happy to have found this new to me author. Books one and two are good stories. This book has five separate stories concerning four guys. They are good background about the guys and their original meeting and interviews with Master, Charon Marque.
Four of the five could have easily been listened to before but not the Shockroom story. I’m glad I already had an idea what this series is about because Shockroom is still giving me wandering thoughts. Shocking isn’t even close to what happens in this story. I don’t know if there are words to describe how intense this story gets. This author has an exceptional talent for storytelling that made me feel I could see the characters and the activities as they unfolded. This is about Reiji’s first job at the House of Silence. Reiji talks with more confidence than he actually has. This is one guy determined to be tough but even tough guys sometimes face unexpected things. Dan Calley’s narration really made it that much more real. It’s a good thing he is a professional, otherwise I don’t know how hard this performance could have been. His pacing and tone individualize the characters and the emotions successfully. I’m anxious for the next in the series.
