The Evan Buckley Thrillers: Books 8 - 10 (Evan Buckley Thrillers Boxsets Book 3) Kindle Edition
BOOKS 8 - 10 IN THE USA TODAY BESTSELLING EVAN BUCKLEY CRIME THRILLER SERIES
SACRIFICE
When PI Evan Buckley’s mentor, Elwood Crow, sends him down to the Florida Keys to check up on an old friend, neither of them are prepared for the litany of death and destruction that Evan unearths, taking them back fifty years to the jungles of South East Asia and the atrocities committed in the name of a war everyone wants to forget - everyone except for the nameless specter that Evan must go up against, a man who they said never came home.
Meanwhile Detective Kate Guillory battles with her own demons in her search for salvation, moving inexorably down the road to her personal Armageddon, to a place where justice and vengeance are without distinction, to a bloody confrontation with her nemesis, the deviant Joseph Liverman.
As their two paths converge and the secrets buried deep in Crow’s past come to light, each of them must make an impossible choice that stretches conscience and tests courage, and in the end demands sacrifice – what would you give to get what you want?
ROUGH JUSTICE
When Gene Rivers is brought in to identify the body of a murdered woman he last saw twenty years ago, he knows the past has finally caught up with him, that he will soon pay the price for the mistakes he made back then. Unsure whether the killing marks the close of unsettled business or the start of a new chapter, he employs PI Evan Buckley to investigate, lifting the lid on old grievances and buried injustices that have festered for half a lifetime.
In a small town on the Maine coast, Evan unearths a series of brutal unsolved murders, and the more he digs, the more the evidence points to a far worse crime hidden beneath forty years of lies and deceit.
Meanwhile Evan’s own past refuses to lie still as, unknown to him, Detective Kate Guillory scratches an itch with unforeseen and disastrous consequences, increasing the burden weighing on his conscience as he faces an impossible dilemma – disclose the terrible secrets he’s uncovered or assume the role of hanging judge and dispense a rough justice of his own.
TOUCHING DARKNESS
After Jay Killinger is mistakenly shot dead in PI Evan Buckley's place in Laredo, Texas, Evan learns that Jay left a mysterious package for him with his attorney. Ignoring all sensible advice and his own fears, Evan sets off on a reckless, ill-fated road trip through the southern states in a vain attempt to banish the demons that haunt him and shore up his courage before confronting the dark secrets that await him. What did Jay leave him? And who are the relentless grim men who will kill to get to it first?
Everything changes when he stops for a young girl huddled at the side of the road on a deserted stretch of highway. It’s clear she’s running away from someone or something, however vehemently she denies it. At times angry and hostile, at others scared and vulnerable, he’s almost relieved when she runs out on him in the middle of the night.
Except he has a nasty premonition that he hasn’t heard the last of her. Nor does it take long before he’s proved horribly right, the consequences dire for himself and Detective Kate Guillory.
Meanwhile the dogs of his past continue to snap at his heels as his mentor Elwood Crow’s son Caleb pursues an agenda of his own, forging an unholy alliance with the spiritual and moral blight that is Avery Pentecost, calling into question where his allegiances truly lie.
As if Evan needed reminding, touch evil and evil touches you back in ways you won’t easily forget.

James Harper is the USA Today Bestselling Author of the wildly popular Evan Buckley crime thrillers. His novels weave tales full of mystery, non-stop action and edge-of-your-seat suspense with laugh-out-loud humor and a touch of romance, and feature maverick private-eye Evan Buckley and his sometimes partner in crime, Detective Kate Guillory.
For the past twenty-five years James has lived in a 400 year old cottage in the woods with his wife and their cats, Leonard and Lily. In his spare time James does what he’s told (if he knows what’s good for him) and likes touring Europe on his motorbike.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2024The stories are so riveting, you can't read them fast enough. The author, James Harper, does not actually end the story with a cliffhanger, but you do want to know what comes next. Just don't think you can just read 10 pages or so, try a hundred at one time.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2022I can't begin to tell you how much I love these books! I am a voracious reader and always looking for new authors and thrilled I found you. That's all he time I have to write. I have to get a soda and start Book 11.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2021The way the author, James Harper, seamlessly integrates the unresolved matters of the past with the unfolding issues of the present to craft a story that pulls the reader in in Sacrifice gives his way of writing a uniqueness that I thoroughly enjoy.
Rough Justice is the perfect blend of plotlines that advance the ones started in previous books in the series and those that introduce new characters and an almost unbelievable new case.
Though readers remain in the grip of a few suspenseful plotlines that commenced in the previous nine books, the one that starts and ends in Touching Darkness was quite enjoyable to read. If you are a fan of high drama characterized by plot twists that seem almost too incredible to believe (keyword there being almost), you'll enjoy this entire series.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2022A grratand fast read. Start at book 1 to get the fulleffectof this hapless detective 🕵️♂️ as he stumbles through each case, and lives to tell the tale.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2022The plot twists are spectacular. The relationship between Kate and Evan is terrific. The story is a bit gruesome but intriguing.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2024A thriller with a twist. Evan is again the man without a plan. Reliving his wife's last trip, finding a cat carrier with a girl attached. A whole new world. Good reads!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2024The Road to Deliverance, #7 of the Evan Buckley Terror Series, is essentially Sarah's story, and well told. We now understand how and why he has made the moves we saw in his past and why he can't focus on tomorrow, despite the very real presence of Detective Kate Guillory in his life. And James Harper leaves us with a mighty hook at the end - know in advance you will have to buy #8 in a great hurry. Poor Sarah.

This story kept my interest right from the beginning. Evan in looking for answers regarding his wife draws the interest of a Government Agency who wants to keep the information under wraps. They abduct him and pull all of his funds out of his bank account as a warning. After a few days since his release, they put the funds back in his account and told him to forget about Nick. This only got him more positive that he was going to continue.
Sacrifice
The story kept my interest right to the end. Interesting to see interaction between Kate, Evan and Crow. Interesting to see how Evan was able to determine what happened in Florida and how the police were so quick to dismiss the true meaning of the deaths. Hopefully Kate is now able to snap back to her old self.
Rough Justice
Evan has begun a case in which his client winds up murdered. This cause has its roots starting over twenty years earlier. At the same time, his girlfriend Kate inadvertently stirs up trouble when she meets a subject to discuss the death of Evan's wife who died earlier.
In order to find out what was entailed in the story, then you must read this book which I heartily recommend.
I was provided a free ARC of the book by the author. This is my honest, voluntary review.
