Fallen (Daniel Briggs Book 2) Kindle Edition
I lost track of the drinks...
Deeper and deeper I go...
This next stop may be my last.
Another town, another problem. Former Marine Daniel Briggs slips from locale to locale, the haze a comforting pillow, but inevitably the chips fall hard.
Daniel finds himself in Maine, courtesy of a small hamlet called Old Orchard Beach. While everything seems quaint on the surface, the veteran sniper soon finds himself pitted between evils. Which one will he choose... or which one will choose him?
Is this a story about vigilante justice, or a hero on a righteous path?
Another rough and tumble action thriller from author C. G. Cooper.
If you like Stephen Hunter's Bob Lee Swagger, WEB Griffin's Killer McCoy, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, Lee Child's Jack Reacher, Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp, and Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne, you will love Daniel Briggs.
The main Corps Justice series has over fourteen books in total and running, plus multiple spinoffs with its most popular characters. The series has earned thousands of five-star reviews and has been downloaded millions of times to Kindles across the globe.
If you enjoy page-turning thrillers loaded with twists, brotherhood above all else, a staunch moral code and non-stop action, Cal Stokes and his Corps justice is for you!

WHY C. G. COOPER MATTERS
Fiction has the power to change lives.
Pay a visit to Cooper Country and you’ll understand why. With his unique voice and flair for creating characters you’d love to hang out with, C. G. Cooper imparts every one of his novels with messages that perfectly illuminate what Faulkner called, “the human heart in conflict with itself.” In them, characters confront hard truths about life, the necessity of war, the military industrial complex, and why and how good men and women die.
But there are messages within the messages.
There is the power of the individual to triumph over evil against overwhelming odds; the struggle of good people against their inner demons; there is brotherhood, family, the discovery of allies in unexpected places, struggles with faith; there is community; there is authenticity; Cooper’s heart is on every page, beating hard and fast through action and moments of tenderness alike.
Expect high-octane action, slow-burn thrills, and gut-wrenching drama. Expect the ultimate conflict of the human heart.
This is Cooper Country. Lives will change.
THE LOWDOWN
Drawing on his days as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps—a stint that came on the heels of a degree in foreign affairs from UVA—Cooper sifted his experience through his vivid imagination and created Corps Justice, the first novel in the beloved Corps Justice series. Thus, a band of characters was born that would go on to enthrall readers throughout 17 novels and counting. With more than 2 million book downloads and multiple appearances in the Amazon Top 100, C. G. Cooper remains one of the most successful USA TODAY and Amazon best-selling authors.
In 2020, he won the prestigious James Webb Award presented by the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation for his novel Chain of Command.
In addition to bouncing around the country in search of the perfect vacation (turns out, it is anywhere with his family), Cooper has called Nashville home ever since his final Marine duty station. When not enjoying the laid-back lifestyle of Music City, he’s doing his best to add more novels to the growing list at cg-cooper.com.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2015[Minor spoilers] Daniel Briggs is a tormented ex-sniper, who unsuccessfully tries to drown his sorrows in liquid forgetfulness. However, as he bums his way from town to town, he stumbles onto things that aren't "right". In spite of his determination to not be connected to anyone and to not care about anyone, he finds himself being drawn in deeper and deeper in unexpected circumstances..Does he run away to keep on being "disengaged" from life or not? One thing is for sure, some of his past is going to come calling and catch up with him. You'll have to read the book to see whether it drags him down further into his mental abyss or whether it helps him take care of those things that aren't "right".
I was a beta reader for this book, and all I can say is thank goodness Cooper is a prolific and disciplined writer. We got a new chapter almost daily. So, we usually had to wait "only" 24 LONG hours for the next installment when we'd learn where the latest twist or turn was going to take the story. Cooper is a master of the unexpected. I SO envy those who are starting with the whole book in hand. They'll have the option of reading until all the answers are revealed. Those of us who were beta readers even had to suffer through through whole weekends with no new chapter, so there were continual "cliff-hangers". Have you ever read a mystery where folks say, "I knew who did it from the first chapter" or folks who say, "This book was so predictable."? Well, that's NOT going to happen here!
All in all, Cooper writes very exciting action books with honor and respect for those who have been in the armed services. If you're new to Cooper, you're in for a treat. After you enjoy this book, catch up by reading all his Corps Justice novels. (In case you wonder, I'm a "little old lady", but there were Marines and other knowledgeable guys in the beta group who were full of praise for Cooper's writing too.) I can't wait for the next book to come out. In the meantime, I think I'll treat myself to re-reading all of the Corps Justice-related books from the beginning.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2015After time off from reading any of Cooper's books (due to time constraints and reading another genre), it was a very pleasant and welcome surprise to come back to them and find that not only were the stories good, but Cooper has continued to grow as an author. While I have enjoyed all of his books and seen him become a better author with each book, the amount he has grown, in the story, characters, descriptions and general story telling was very refreshing and enjoyable. I do like the fact, as I have written in previous reviews, that his books are not bogged down with unnecessary descriptions of places or details that are not relevant. There is enough detail to describe the scene, but not so much as to distract from the story that you lose track of what is happening.
I also like the fact that Cooper is now writing stories about the characters that "supporting" characters in his other books. I look forward to reading the back stories on the other "supporting" characters from the Corp Justice novels.
As usual, for this author, the book was a good, enjoyable read and was a very refreshing change from some of the other books I have read lately.
If you like the types of books in this genre, you should definitely give this one a try.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2015Another great read by Cooper. Spoiler Alert.
This one has Daniel Briggs in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Daniel got off the AMTRAK train to just look around. He's still drinking and has loads of personal baggage.
Daniel heads for a bar and once inside is approached by a woman named Tiffany. Tiffany isn't pleased when Daniel isn't interested in her dubious charms.
Four men approach Daniel after Tiffany tells them Daniel grabbed her ass. Daniel realizes these four have done this before with Tiffany. The four men aren't impressed with Daniel but are in for the surprise of their lives when Daniel kicks their asses seven ways to Sunday.
After the fight in the bar Daniel heads out looking for a cheap motel for the night and spots a priest/pastor loading a pick up. The priest/pastor tells him about a cheap motel and Daniel heads out to find it.
Later the priest/pastor who is indeed a pastor approached Daniel and offers him a room at his church. Daniel isn't keen on it but finally agrees.
The pastor is Ed Walker and his daughter is Anna. An Anna who's a beautiful sixteen year old. An Anna Daniel likes immediately.
So begins another great read by Cooper.
This one has Daniel, a Daniel who was known as Snake Eyes, a sniper par excellance, Ed, Anna, Ed's ex wife Natasha Verushkin, her father Georgy Verushkin who is a man of honor and head of The Pension, Ukranian women sold into the sex trade, a Daniel who finds this out, a Pastor Walker who appears to be a weak man a man who's being blackmailed, a Daniel who decides to help Walker, a Daniel who finds a building on the Church land, a building that has manacles and chains, a building that's being used to house those women, an Anna who takes a hand, an Anna who is kidnapped, A Natasha Verushkin who decides her Father must die, a man named Joe who will see this done, a fight at the Verushkin house, a Daniel who calls in some favors, a Julian Fogg with the CIA, a Rex Hazard who fought alongside Daniel in Iraq and Afghanista, a Hazerd who put Daniel in for the Congressional Medal of Honor, an honor Daniel declined, a meeting of The Pension at Ft. Kearny island, a Natasha with plans, a Pastor Walker who isn't what he appears to be and Daniel Briggs letting his monster loose to save lives, kill the bad guys and make sure those he knows are good people stay alive.
One Awesome read. Five Stars.
