Elizabeth Bailey grew up in Africa with unconventional parents, where she loved reading and drama. On returning to England, she developed her career in acting, theatre directing and finally writing.

Elizabeth's latest venture is The Lady Fan Mystery series, published by Sapere Books. The novels feature amateur sleuth Lady Ottilia Fanshawe and a cast of family members including her husband and champion Lord Francis Fanshawe. She originally published Regency romances with Harlequin Mills & Boon and has many titles in her Brides by Chance Regency Adventures series, now also published by Sapere, as well as standalone Regency and Georgian romances.

Elizabeth also writes edgy women's fiction: Her dual time novel Fly The Wild Echoes, which deals with past lives, and For One More Tomorrow, where the ghost of the real Macbeth returns, protesting his villainous portrayal by Shakespeare. And she has published a romantic suspense novella, Silence of a Stranger.

Elizabeth lives in Sussex, England. She is still an inveterate reader with eclectic tastes and she spends her spare time helping other writers improve their craft.

"The Fateful Marriage" is a mystery set in 1791. This novel is the 6th in the series, but you don't need to read the previous novels to understand this one. This story didn't spoil the whodunit of the previous books.

This was a clue-based mystery. Since the witnesses were also potential suspects and were being bullied by other members of their extended family, there was some difficulty discovering what happened. Lady Fan asked plenty of questions and used her observational skills, but she also got help from her husband and niece. I spotted the critical clue at the same time that Lady Fan did.

The characters were interesting, and I cared about what happened to them. Historical details were woven into the story to create the feeling of a specific time and place. There was a couple of uses of bad language. There were no sex scenes. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable novel.

Well, delightful might be a bit strong for this fascinating, thoroughly entertaining mystery! The tragic murders, highly dysfunctional family and the struggles between Lady Fan and her beloved husband are challenging to read but engrossing and plausible. I, as always, highly recommend this series, and love this author. I look forward to the next book, as I need to know what happens to Pretty! Read for yourself if you want to know what I mean by that.

I love the Lady Fan books, Ms. Bailey writes such interesting characters. This time around Lady Fan must solve two murders that occurs in a despicable family. The old lady that runs the family turns out to be the mortal enemy of Lady Fan's mother in law. There is a tangle of lies, hate and deceit that Lady Fan must weave through to find the suspect. There is also young love blossoming that might overlap into the next book,, here's hoping.

I love the Lady fan books! She had the horrible luck of dead bodies falling at her feet. This time a body falls from the high boulders of a tourist attraction and lands right in front of her. The victim is the secret wife of the grandson of a powerful matriarch, and the evil one has said more than once she wished someone would do away with the girl. She rules her family with an iron tongue and has one of them taken the wicked Matron's words as an order? She knows Lady Fan's reputation for solving mysterious deaths and asks for her help. Be careful for what you wish for...the answer may not be what you expect.I
This is a clean story see in the late 1700's in England. There is no foul language or steamy sex, just a great mystery solved by a great character and her friends and family.

What is meant as a vacation of sorts is anything but as an accident turns into perhaps murder! But to prove it one way or another turns into a mystery. No one will talk or make a move to intervene until another murder takes place…and then the real work takes place.

I liked this book. I wasn't sure if I would as it started out boring, unlike the other Lady Fan books. It did get interesting later.
I could not believe that a father would want to put his son in a mental hospital for grieving over his wife.
All 3 of the deaths were really bizarre.
I would recommend this book along with the other Lady Fan books so far.

This is another highly entertaining book in this series. However, with this one, I had more trouble keeping the characters straight with considerable difficulty than usual. Nevertheless, the plot develops nicely and the main characters remain believable and sympathetic.

I always enjoy Bailey’s writing, so fluently literate in Period reticence. The plot and characters are less than memorable however.

This is the latest in the Lady Fan series and is just as good as the others. The characters are well developed and the plot carefully thought out. These are well written stories and I am hopeful of more instalments to come. Hopefully we will get to see a small arrival to really add further depth to the storylines, I hate it when an author doesn’t think they can keep a series continuing when they add personal complications. Such twists add so much and I am hopeful of a little addition to the family.

Die ersten bücher der Serie habe ich mit Vergnügen gelesen, aber jetzt ist für mich Ende. Es ist langsam immer das gleich - und die einührung einer ziemlich nervtötenden Nichte macht es nicht interessanter. Schade.

Both the actual mystery and the surrounding storyline about the main characters is pretty good. Worth reading and worth puzzling over too.
