Fifth Generation Cowboy (Three Rivers Ranch Romance™ Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 1,875 ratings

A shy cowboy, a single mother, and their journey out of the friend zone.

Tom Lovell, a fifth-generation cowboy raised by a single dad, knows ranching like the back of his hand. At Three Rivers Ranch, he watches his fellow cowboys get married one by one, but he's not sure he's the marrying type. His mother's abandonment when he was a child has left him wary of women and content with his life as a cowboy.

Rose Reyes, a single mother to her daughter Mari, who has Autism, has been raising her daughter alone for seven years. Despite Mari's improvements through equine therapy, Rose struggles with loneliness, exhaustion, and the desire for adult companionship—and she’s always found a friend in Tom.

One day, Tom and Rose find themselves alone in the kitchen, where Rose confesses her feelings of being out of control and her need for a break. Tom, without judgment, offers to help her with her leaking kitchen sink and overgrown lawn. As they spend more time together, Tom realizes that his friendship with Rose could grow into something more—if he can get out of his own way.

Tom also must navigate his confusing feelings about where he should be—Three Rivers or back home in Montana?—as his relationship with Rose heats up. And she always has to consider her daughter in every decision she makes.

Tom and Rose will need faith, patience, and love to navigate the road out of the friend zone and toward where they’re supposed to be without risking Mari's well-being in the process. Can they face the challenges of single parenthood, past traumas, and societal expectations to build a life together? Or will their leap of faith leave them all broken-hearted?

I love Liz Isaacson, her novels are truly wonderful! It is hard to find an author who can distinguish between a Christian Romance Novel and a Contemporary Romance Novel, but Ms. Isaacson does it and she does it well! I highly recommend every novel that I have read, and I hope that every novel I plan to read in the future is of the same quality!

"Fifth Generation Cowboy" is a novel that struck outside of the norm for this series, at least to me. I felt like this novel by Ms. Isaacson was a step about from the homestead of Three Rivers Ranch, and into the lives that surround the community that makes these books so great. We find Tom and Rose in a new, up and coming friendship; one that's built on both not looking for love. Can they be what the other needs, even with them both fighting it? Will they find that happily ever after?

I recommend this ten novel series, each one is better than the last. Very well written, it's like a story coming off the pages before your very eyes.

Another great story in the Three Rivers area, dealing with abandonment, autism, trust and romance slowly blossoming to love. Characters are complex, but how they communicate connects them all. Mari communicates her fear of change through rage and screaming, her joy quietly. Tom communicates love through patience, serenity and thoughtful hard work when unable to find words to express it. But Rose has the hardest time of sharing her hopes and dreams, because raising an autistic child alone after her divorce, and determined to not rely on anyone for help, she cannot envision a better life for herself, especially not love in her self imposed isolation. Loved the tongue tied cowboy, the way attraction grows into love, how pain and isolation is broken by those moments of pure joy from a shy smile, a dog's kiss, a soft I love you.

Rose is tired and now her ex-husband has spilled the beans he is going to be taking a job in Washington and he's engaged to his girlfriend and they are to be married in the fall! Which means instead of him taking his daughter every other weekend he doesn't know how visitation will work out for him to get to Texas. Mari is not dealing with this change very well with her autism and being a pre-teen. Thankfully Tom at Three Rivers is able to calm her down some with their Horse Therapy. Plus, Mari really responds to Tom well! Tom has been trying his best not to notice Rose, but, it seems that everyone else can see there's something between them. When she has a mini breakdown after dropping Mari off he decides to help her with some chores around the house. What neither expect is the attraction they feel for one another. Rose is more resistant about her feelings than Tom so he decides to go slow. However, when something happens to his father he knows what he needs to do. What happened? What does Tom do? How does Rose react? Mari? Only one way to find out, read this great story by Liz Isaacson and Elana Johnson.

I enjoyed the characters in this book. I also liked how down to earth and honest the mother/daughter were. I think the true display of an autistic child really added another layer to the book. So many can relate to the daily struggles of a special needs child. I applaud Liz Isaacson for including this scenario. It really made this authentic and made the connection between the adults even more meaningful. How many men or women would take on a child with special needs?
This was a heart warming story and because so much of the story was the day to day dealings with work, children and just plain living, it made this a book that gives a positive outcome and outlook for those going through similar situations.
Excellently written, great and believable storyline and very believable characters. Add this book to your "must read" list. You'll be glad you did!

Raised on a Montana Ranch, Tom Lovell is working at Three Rivers Ranch and interested in Rose Reyes local bank loan manager. She is resistant to dating him because of her special needs daughter. When Tom’s father falls and is put in the hospital he is called back to Montana. He decides to move back to help his family, and wants Rose to go with him. She must decide what she wants and what is best for her daughter. A heartwarming story and worth the read.

The mother of an autistic child and a ranch cowboy are drawn to one another in this book. She's having a rough time of it, and he volunteers to help her out on some things needed around her house, and feelings start to be hard. I love how attentive he was to her autistic daughter in this book, and how she was always comfortable with him.

I fell in love with Tom and Rose as their story progressed, but later in the story than usual in a well-written plot. At first Tom's personality seemed rather dull and too simple--not the traditional "hero". However, his gentleness, inate kindness, and even the simple way he lives and relates to others creates beauty and hope. How he consistantly cares for Rose (a more traditional single-mother character) drew me in. I don't think I've ever met a character quite like him, and I love that about Liz's stories...each character and situation is new and just as special as the last. So glad I "happened" upon her writing!

My heavens what a beautiful love story! The unselfishness of Tom is so unexpected in most men. He genuinely was interested in people.

His love for Rose and Mari was the highlight of this story. He went out of his way to help and do things for them. Most men think of themselves and what the want, it was so refreshing to see him give of himself without expecting anything but the hope that one day Rose would love him too.

And Mari with down syndrome was very nice to see how people handled her, from her mother, her aunt, grandparents, strangers, but most of all her interactions with Tom. It was beautiful to watch through the book's story.

I loved this story very much! I'm ready for the next book in the series.

Heart warming story of love against the odds. Rose has an extra reason to be careful of anyone she lets into her life never mind her heart. Her daughter's autism means that even small changes have to be negotiated with care. I particularly liked the true portrayal of Mairi as I have a son with autism and found the author gave a sensitive and accurate picture of the challenges faced by Rose. Tom has enough love to soothe them both and Mairi instantly responds to the quiet but firm parameter setting. Mairi clearly needs a strong father figure and this Cowboy has it in spades.

Another great book in the series. I love these sorts of series where each book can stand alone but there are various characters that are shared between books. This was another clean, well-written Christian romance that I'd be happy to recommend to anyone, and that also included a bit of a look at life for a single parent with an autistic child. All in all, recommended.

This is the fourth book in the series that I've read, I do like the format of interconnected stories that are stand alone. I find that sometimes I just want to knock the two main characters heads together and tell them top just get on with it, however this is a sign that I've been drawn into the story and care about the characters.
