About the author

Elaine Spaan writes cozy mysteries steeped in charm, chuckles, and just a hint of scandal. A lifelong fan of twisty whodunits and charming detectives, she finds inspiration in rainy afternoons spent watching BBC crime dramas and Scandinavian noir. Elaine believes every passerby is a potential suspect and that every good mystery deserves a side of laughter and love. When she’s not plotting her next village scandal, she’s probably eavesdropping in a café - purely for research, of course.

I volunteered to read Finders, Not Keepers.
Thanks to the Review Crew for the opportunity.
My opinion is voluntary and is my own.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2018Every time a D.E. Haggerty books shows up in my Kindle it reminds me how much I've missed reading cozy mysteries. I get so caught up in reading the same few genres, forgetting where some of my love of reading came from. I need to make some changes and expand my horizons again.
What I love about books like this is imaging myself as the protagonist. Growing up I loved reading about Nancy Drew, the Hardy boys, and the Bobbsey twins, thinking how cool it would be to live their lives! To this day I still think it would be awesome, but at this point in my life I know it will never happen. At least now I can live vicariously through books like Finders, Not Keepers- a grown-up version of my childhood books.
Terri gets caught up in a little intrigue when she somes across a diamond necklace in her attic. Tracking down the previous owner turns out to be more than she bargained for, as she has to deal with the dead owners disgruntled family members and antagonistic coworkers, as well as the hot PI next door. (Who I kind of wanted to slap upside the head a time or 2- hot or not, dude had some anger issues). Not to mention some really bad guys who might or might not be hot on her tail.
Who knew that one necklace could lead to such adventure. From trying to find its owner to landing herself smack dab in the midst of an unsolved murder, Terri sure had her hands full. And I was entertained the entire time.
If Terri solving a mystery isn't cool enough, she's also a librarian! Imagine being surrounded by books all day, even if you have to deal with all the teen-agers. I kind of wanted to insert myself into this book and be her for a week or 2. Although I think I'm more like her best friend Melanie, who I loved. Inappropriate, filterless, and up for an adventure. Yeah, I'm definitely more Melanie. Fingers crossed hers is the next book!
***I just have to mention, I loved the chapter heading quotes, so fun!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2019Um it was OK, nothing to have me hanging off my seat. The boyfriend was a bit too much always bossing her around and acting like he could control and then her finally being happy that he was. Just a bit too much but it was still a good read though totally expected. But I would try another one to see 😊
- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2018What a fun book! It was an adventure in how not to listen to your best friend yet still end up with the "hot neighbor guy"! There is also the serious theme of how a woman begins to recover after her divorce from an emotionally abusive husband. I loved the characters & the surprises along the way that come with a seriously good cozy. Looking forward to continuing this series!

4.0 out of 5 stars Finders, Not Keepers
I've become a fan of a D.E. Haggerty story, for some reason I don't seem to be able to get enough of them. This story had me laughing and shaking my head. Terri kept admonishing Ryder for being an overbearing, over protective pain in the butt, she never said no to her overbearing best friend who kept leading to danger. I enjoyed the story and I can't wait to read more in this story, the characters are addictive.
