About the authors
Jae is the author of twenty-six award-winning sapphic romances. She lives in the sunniest city of Germany, near the French and Swiss borders. The writing bug bit her at the age of eleven.
She used to work as a psychologist but gave up her day job in 2013 to become a full-time writer and a part-time editor. As far as she’s concerned, it’s the best job in the world.
When she’s not writing, she is an avid reader of sapphic books, indulges her ice cream and stationery addictions, and watches way too many crime shows.
Elaine Burnes is the award-winning author of the novel Wishbone and short-story collection A Perfect Life and Other Stories. Her latest, Endurance, is out now. After years spent toiling in communications and editing for various publications, environmental nonprofits, and higher education, she now lives in and writes from bucolic western Massachusetts.
Her first story, “A Perfect Life,” appeared in Skulls and Crossbones (Mindancer Press) in 2010. Since then, she’s had many stories published, including “Consignment,” in Finding Ms. Write (Ylva, 2016); “A Certain Moon,” in Wicked Things (Ylva, 2014); and “The Game” in Best Lesbian Romance 2011 (Cleis Press). These and many others are collected in A Perfect Life and Other Stories.
Endurance won a 2023 Golden Crown Literary Society award for Science Fiction/Fantasy and was a finalist for the Ann Bannon Popular Choice Award. Her first novel, Wishbone, (Bedazzled Ink, 2015), won a 2016 Golden Crown Literary Society award for Dramatic/General Fiction. A Perfect Life and Other Stories (GusGus, 2016), was a Rainbow Award winner.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2021Great anthology of romantic stories.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2018Loved all the stories in this book
- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2016This book is simply wonderful. A plethora of great authors writing stories about book people falling for book people! What could be better ?! Worth the read.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2016I really respect and like Jae's writing as well as Jove and even Ylva as a publishing house, so I had high hopes for this compilation. It's mostly well written though the perspective of the characters in the final story was highly confusing at times. It wasn't great though. Pleasant but nothing spectacular. What's more, it was actually sort of depressing. This may come across as insensitive, but frankly too many of the stories revolved around people well over the age of fantasy type sexy. They had hip problems, Alzheimers, used canes, dealing with death of loved ones, etc... Not that this isn't real life, and not that diversity in literature isn't important, but it just seemed overwhelmingly geared towards the 60+ demographic which I wasn't expecting. I read books like this for escapism, and instead it was rather despondent. Instead of just being a fun quick read, it was like being forced to sit down and listen to a group therapy session of super traumatic and depressing life events.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2017Great book. Lots of stories and fun theme.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2017Story collections like this one are an excellent way to sample authors who are unfamiliar to the reader; I have a few new authors to add to my ‘read more of their work’ list thanks to Finding Ms Write and a greater appreciation for the talents of authors I am already familiar with.
This collection of short stories, like others published by Ylva, offers up a variety of authors telling stories that center around a theme of some kind. Here it’s the love of books, and the assortment of characters and plotlines is impressive in its diversity. Some are laugh out loud funny, others more serious; I enjoyed them all. I also appreciated that some of the characters in the stories were older or had mobility challenges; it was a refreshing change to not read exclusively about young fit perfect women.
I recommend this collection to any reader who loves books because you are sure to find a glimpse, if not a full reflection, of yourself (or someone you know) in at least one of these stories’ characters, along with some new authors to potentially read in the future. I hope that Ylva continues to release more theme based short story collections like this in the future, a sampler platter of their talented authors.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2016This is an amusing, fun and charming set of short stories written by an array of lesbian authors, some well known, others less so. The tone is light and the content entertaining, all based, of course, around writers, editors and publishers.
From a night of passion with a stranger on a cruise to a long-term partner trying out new things, the stories are a mix of fantasy and reality. There are also a mixture of age and experience, from young professionals to older women and established couple’s, which makes for a refreshing change.
The stories have various appeals, this isn’t erotica, it's romance, and varies from soft explicit to fade to black. Having been to Con I do feel we ned a follow up from a certain author/editor...
I found them well written and enjoyable reads, if you like romance and enjoy short stories this is definitely for you.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2016I tend to have a love/hate relationship with short story collections. Typically they'll have two stories I love, another two or three I love, a few I hate, and then a range of "meh" in between. Not so with Finding Ms. Write. It's a solid collection of books I liked or loved. No "meh" or stories I hated anywhere in there.
I received a free copy from the publisher for an honest review at The Lesbian Review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great short stories
I really enjoyed a lot several stories and I am now searching for other books from these authors.
As a book lover, this book really made me fall in love, specially when it mentions other books from literature.
