Firecracker: A contemporary romance Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 274 ratings

Arden Lennox’s charmed life may be in pieces, but she’d sooner get her hoohaw bleached than move back in with her parents. She’s no longer the prom-queen princess married to the football star. She’s a broke, penniless widow, and it’s time she stood on her own two feet. An under-construction unit in a quaint Chicago brownstone is cheap (free), but it comes with an unexpected surprise. Tyler Ramirez, her brother’s gawky high school best friend, is now a smoking hot firefighter who spends most of his spare time in her unit hammering, drilling, and screwing. Usually with his shirt off—a temptation she has no intention of indulging.

Tyler can’t believe his high school crush is living right across the hall, or how fast his fierce lust for her comes blazing back. She’s still gorgeous—a little sadder, a little quieter, but still with the amazing smile and sweet body that fueled his awkward teenage fantasies. Despite her best intentions, Arden can’t resist grown up Tyler but the sparks between them send her into full retreat. And by the time she realizes the heat between them could last a lifetime, it could be too late to tell him…

Editorial Reviews

Review

In 'firecracker RED,' Stellasue Lee gives us powerful, exuberant poems, full of grief and love that draws us into her world. There is nothing hidden here; nothing false or pretentious. What we have in this book is intensely lyrical poems that teach us what it means to be human and how to survive. I love this book and I know you will, too. Maria Mazziotti Gillan, Winner, American book Award, 2008 for All That Lies Between Us. --firecraker RED

In this her fifth book, Stellasue Lee meditates on landscapes and new roads taken, love, family, loss and dislocation in a beloved natural world of stars, oaks, fog, mud-spattered earth evoked in sensual, lyrical and alternately down-home poems. Her voice is vital and resonates with insights of a life richly observed. Praises! Colette Inez Professor of Creative Writing, Columbia University, author of 9 books --firecracker RED

There is a gentle, sensual quality to the poetry of Stellasue Lee, glazed over dark, hard experiences. I first read her some fifteen years ago while sitting in my car, and the connection I felt was so intimate that when my woman returned from shopping; I tucked the book out of sight, as if I d been unfaithful. That same power runs through the poems in 'firecracker RED.' John Bennett, Novelist --firecracker RED

What’s not to love about this book. Kelly Jamieson knows exactly how to draw you in from the very first page. We meet Arden Lennox, a woman who is trying to pick up the pieces of her life and looking forward to a better future. She will find out that family and friends is just what she needs to help her but what she never expects is that her brother’s best friend Tyler Ramirez would make the biggest impact.
Tyler Ramirez is a firefighter, a handyman when need be, a Fantastic Son, and friend but what he does know that when Arden comes back into their lives the crush he always felt for grows even so now.
Tyler & Arden will tiptoe around the feelings that are developing but you will watch them navigate through them and see if they can overcome fear on her part and his overprotective feelings he has when it comes to her then maybe they can find a HEA that they both know they deserve.

    Can you go home again?

Arden Lennox is heading back to Chicago, a place that hasn’t been home for over 10 years. Widowed and shockingly penniless, Arden accepts an offer from her successful, so-not-penniless tech mogul brother to live in an apartment in his building. The fact the apartment is in the middle of renovation seems appropriate for Arden, who is certainly undergoing her own life renovation. And she realizes that although things in her hometown seem the same, a lot has changed…

This is a fun read that has its share of emotion as well. I could not help but think of the sitcom “Friends,” – here a group of friends & family are living together in a 4-unit brownstone, trying to live and love in the big city. They even hang out on a sofa at their favorite Irish pub! I have not read this author before, but I liked Ms. Jamieson’s writing style and her characters. Sure, like “Friends,” everyone was beautiful, smart and funny. But there was a lot of realistic situations as well that any reader can relate too. I felt a lot of sympathy for Arden, and enjoyed watching her find her new normal. And Tyler was a more-than-worthy hero – he had baggage as well, but he too was evolving and learning how to deal with it. That crush he had on Arden back in the day? Oh yeah, that’s now developed into full-on sparking chemistry between the two, mush to this reader’s delight. The surrounding characters were great, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that this author will feature some of them next. How about Jamie and Mila? *wink, wink*

This was not one of my favorite books by this author. I was looking for more of a romance story, but overall it fell short for me.

Arden moves back home to Chicago after her husband passes away in order to get her feet back under her. The marriage had been over but his suicide still shook Arden to her core. When her brother’s best friend, Tyler, starts updating her apartment, Arden begins to spend a lot of time with him, and their attraction grows. Tyler has always had a crush on Arden, but will she be able to overcome her concerns in order for both of them to have their happily ever after? Great book that I could not put down!

He’s loved her since he was 14. She’s his best friend’s older sister, the prom queen. And now she’s back in Chicago and still fine as hell. He can’t keep his eyes off her or his dirty thoughts . Wait, is she watching him? Could that be attraction in her eyes? Tyler has grown into a buff, hot firefighter. He’s still her younger brother’s best friend though. Still, he’s gorgeous!

Kelly Jamieson's standalone contemporary romance about a widowed twenty-something who's desperate to find herself while reluctantly losing herself in her brother's best friend is a feel-good storyline full of charismatic characters, smoking hot attraction, lush romance and, admittedly, some predictably cliche complications. But with each turn of the page, Firecracker grew on me more and more and I came away having thoroughly enjoyed all of it.

If you don't fall hard and fast for Tyler Ramirez, I just don't even know if we can be friends. He's protective and kind and... verrrrry generous (winky face!) I seriously couldn't get over how much I adored him. And even though Arden often bugged me with her inability to see that what was RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER was precisely what she needed, I really liked her too and I was rooting for her the entire way. I so appreciated the build in this story: the former high school crush turned neighborly handyman which ultimately leads to so much more... it was just too good, so juicy, so sexy, so complicated. I had so much fun reading this book.

Firecracker is sinfully sexy and adorably sweet all at once. I hope every character that was introduced on these pages gets their own story because I'm not at all ready to let them go without knowing how life turns out for each of them. Tyler and Arden's story in Firecracker is a heartfelt, fiery, passionate romance rife with misunderstandings and sugary sweet friendships. Whether you're already a huge fan of Kelly Jamieson, as I am, or relatively new to this author's work, I highly recommend giving this one a go. The chemistry on these pages is OFF THE CHARTS and anyone looking for a wholly readable romance full of push and pull, reluctant emotion, smart character growth and witty banter should look no further than this book right here.

This was a cute and sometimes funny romance. I loved the fact that it seemed like a roll reversal. Tyler was the one with the crush and Arden was the one holding back. The secondary characters were fantastic and I wouldn't mind a second book with some of them as the main characters.
