Life is an extravaganza! figuring out how to hang tough and make the most of the wild ride is the challenge.
On my way to Oahu to join the rock musician and high school drop-out I had met in San Diego and married in Tijuana, I was nabbed by the police as a runaway. When the police let me go and the rock band broke up, my husband and I had to find another way to survive. Our next stop: Disney World where we trained to be chefs, courtesy of the Walt Disney World University. A GED for my husband and many more years of education landed us in academia at The Ohio State University. Retired now from my role as a professor in social work and behavioral science, I have picked up a long-time interest in writing fiction. I'm still married to the same sweet guy and live with him in the Palm Springs area. In addition to reading and writing fiction, I enjoy painting, hiking, hanging out with my handsome husband and tending to my Siamese kitties.
An award-winning and bestselling author I enjoy snooping into life's mysteries with fun, fiction, & food—California style! I write books in five series: The Jessica Huntington Desert Cities Mystery series set in the Coachella Valley near Palm Springs, the Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery series set on California’s Central Coast, The Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery series set in Orange County, California, The Seaview Cottages Cozy Mystery Series set on the American Riviera, just north of Santa Barbara, and The Calla Lily Mystery series set in Northern California's wine country.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2023A woman, Miriam, and her dog, Domino, who are living in a senior community, go walking near the sea and stumble across the body of a woman. Cell service is spotty, so they go to the top of the bluff to call it in, and when the police arrive, the body has disappeared. The deputy sheriff suspects she is batty, or a troublemaker, but Miriam points out a shoe, and purse and other items that are scattered about in the sand. A while later, the deputy gets a call that a body has turned up much further down the coast, and Miriam insists it's her body. Of course, the deputy suspects, Miriam, so she and her friends investigate to clear her name. Fortunately, a county investigator, who doesn't believe she is guilty, gets involved, yet the women continue to question suspects.
I enjoyed the characters and their friendships, the dog, Domino, and the seaside community. There were enough secrets and shady characters to keep me (and the detectives) guessing, and plenty of tension to maintain my interest.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2024The Seaview Cottages Community would be in a world of trouble if they depended on the local cop to solve a murder. Luckily, they have a group of retired women that want to find out who killed a young woman on the beach I their community. This is a fun story where the women get together and start investigating the murder much to the chagrin of a sheriff’s officer that is taking over the case. Their antics get to him as he threatens them to no avail. It’s a fast and enjoyable read.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2023If you like murder mysteries and trying to solve who is the culprit then this book is a good one to read. I thought I had a really good idea of the murderer in this book but was very surprised by the outcome. Miriam is one of the older generation living in a cottage her husband Pete purchased long before his death. After Pete passed away, Miriam learned that he had made bad deals & left very little financially for her to live on & finding a job has been difficult. The cottages has a policy about the age of its owners & since Pete passed away, Miriam had to be careful not to divulge her true age. While walking her dog, Domino, Miriam came upon a body on the beach. Several of the cottage women were taking a class on the beach & saw the body as well. By the time they left to call the police & returned, the body disappeared only to show up on another beach a few miles away. Miriam & several of her friends began trying to solve who killed the woman found on the beach, partially because the detective Devers is clueless so they felt there was no other choice. Although a new detective Hank arrives at the cottages, they don’t let it stop them from their own investigation. Throughout the book it gives more details of the group of friends & the back ground of their lives. The story ends without a cliff hanger but it does have a brief beginning of the next book. It was a good book that I would read others in the series, but there are a few typos here & there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good cozy mystery read
The 1st book in a new series and author to me, which I think I'm going to enjoy immensely.
Miriam has moved to a retirement community with her dog, Domino, after the death of her husband, but she's drawn into a murder investigation as she finds a body whilst out walking her dog.
Together with the some of the inhabitants of the community, they take it upon themselves to look into the murder, as the local Deputy has a somewhat bad reputation. However, a new Detective, Hank, is drawn into the case.
The community is a set of cottages, in Miriam's part, they are named after writers.
It's a funny, cozy mystery series which is easy to read, not too gory and ideal for an afternoon snuggled up with a blanket and a cuppa.
I'm looking forward to the rest of the books in the series.

2.0 out of 5 stars Slow
Not my thing at all. I found the book to be slow, tedious and I couldn’t get into it at all. The police officer was portrayed as extremely dumb. I don’t know if was supposed to be a spoof?

4.0 out of 5 stars It's no bluff there really is a murder at the beach
This was a fun easy read. I did find it a bit confusing with three of the main characters having names that start with 'M' but once I got my head a round that I quite enjoyed the mystery.
A body is discovered but before the inept police can arrive on the scene it disappears. It's not long before it washes up on the beach and then the real mystery begins who wouldn't want to kill the manipulative victim. Afraid they might be the next victim the group of friends that discover the body start to investigate but hiding there own secrets it proves to be a daunting task.
It was an interesting setting and I will be reading book two very soon.
