Flirt: A Forever Wilde Short Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 2,856 ratings

Sassy-mouthed Stevie Devore has always had a crush on the local fire chief. Gorgeous silver fox, Evan Paige, is way out of Stevie's league, however, not to mention the chief has always been a ladies' man, but when Stevie turns twenty-one, he decides he's tired of only daydreaming about Evan. He wants a real taste of that sugar daddy, even if it means turning the flirt factor up a notch or ten to make it happen. This 36k word novella has pee-in-your-pants humor, peel-the-paint-off-the-walls steam, and a smidgie-poo of hand-on-chest swooning.

Stevie is a character but sweet and adorable. Evan was definitely more of a cinnamon roll than I could have imagined. It was super insta love and borderline creepy as all age gaps are when the characters knew each other when one was a 9 year old.

I just loved Stevie’s character in all the books but seeing him get his HEA with Evan made me love him even more. This novella is a sweet age gap with a side of first love. Stevie has loved fire chief Evan for a decade. Now that Stevie is a grown up, he has caught Evan’s eye. This book has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, strong friendships, sexy times, real life issues, imperfect characters, complicated families, and so much love. While short, the story included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. I love this series.

First, let me say that I LOVE the characters in the Wilde family that Lucy Lennox has created. I LOVE them all. The stories are fun and filled with love. But these last two books (Hudson's Luck and Flirt) have irritated me like sand in my swimsuit. My main complaint is that I find it unbelievable that a heretofore "straight" man suddenly becomes enamored by a young man. BUT, it's not just any young man, but a small, petite, feminine younger man. It's almost like the characters need a girly-man in order to prove to themselves that they aren't gay and are still attracted to women, or the feminine traits, but want penis, too. Both stories have similar main characters - the ultra hot, butch older man and a feminine, wisecracking younger man. In the real world, it is highly unlikely that these two types would be drawn together in romance. But putting that aside, and accepting that stranger things have happened, the fact that the "straight" guys would suddenly discover (after 35-45 years) their "bisexual" side is malarkey. And they DO point out that they are BISEXUAL, NOT GAY! Please! Everyone does not have to have a gay relationship in your books, Ms. Lennox! Straight allies are welcome! But, it's like something's in the water in Hobie, Texas as every hot guy becomes gay! Now, in this book, Flirt, I take especially strong issue with Evan Paige - the 44-year-old Fire Chief - throwing open the closet door without any thoughts of repercussions whatsoever in order to land his man who he's been pining over for years. (He was just waiting for Stevie to come of legal age.) That really makes Evan seem creepy and obsessed. In prior Wilde family stories, Evan Paige was a minor character and his sexuality was suspect, but never defined, although he was very accepting and welcoming of gay recruits in the firehouse. He was definitely an ally to the gay community, but his sexuality was undetermined by the author. But in this story, he comes out, guns blazin', without a care as to who knows he wants Stevie as his lover. It's all too weird and uncomfortable. Even Stevie feels it's strange! Evan's character just comes across as obsessed, possessive, controlling and domineering - even though he's sweet and understanding and loving. The other thing that really bothered me about this story was that Evan and Stevie proclaimed their love for each other after a few short weeks of officially knowing each other and during their first act of copulation. Too much, too fast, too unbelievable. Like I said before, the characters are great, but their actions are impulsive, inexplicable and irritatingly implausible.

Summary: Stevie has been in love with Evan since he was in the sixth grade. But there was no way Fire Chief Evan Paige was ever going to love him back—there was twenty years between them—what hope did Stevie have of being seen as an adult, even if he was twenty-one?

‘“Baby, you were born a hot mess. Did it ever occur to you that’s part of what I find incredibly attractive about you? You’re fun and flirty, bright and happy. You are never boring and always filled with surprises. Being with you is like opening a new gift every single day. I knew you were a hot mess before I fell for you.’

Review: This is a cute novella. Stevie is a spitfire full of snark and funny sayings, yet he’s also a hard worker who loves his family and will do just about anything to help his sister and his mom. It hasn’t been lost on Fire Chief Evan Paige that Stevie has been flirting with him for the last couple of years, but for a long time, Stevie was still that boy he helped. But then something happens that makes him realize that Stevie is no longer a kid, but a grown man—and a sexy one at that. It may seem a bit arbitrary, but I kind of like that Evan waited until Stevie was over 21 years old before he made his move on him. And it was seriously him making a move because even though Stevie had been flirting and dreaming about being with Evan, I don’t think he ever thought he’d really have a chance with him. It takes him a while to believe it’s for real. And Evan is such a sweetheart too—wanting to help Stevie in any way he can once he sees how much Stevie is struggling to juggle two jobs and helping take care of his very young sister.

Novella’s aren’t really my favorite because there things usually feel so rushed or like the characters don’t have enough time to get to know each other—and that was sort of the case here. I can see how Lennox tried to circumvent this by making it clear that both men were well on their way to being in love with each other before they started dating—having gotten to know each other well just from observation and daily interactions at the coffee shop. Even so, it feels a little rushed to me. Still, it’s a sweet story with fun characters.

Thank god Lennox found a way to land Stevie, an over the top local with a reputation built on his ability to flirt with anyone and everyone who somehow magically lands the only object of true desire he’s ever had. Well done and despite being a novella, as well crafted as you’d expect from Lennox.

I loved this short! Stevie has been such a big and flamboyant character since book 1, so it was lovely to see more of him, and the different side of him too. I didn't realise how long he and Evan had been dancing around each other - the depth of their history and connection. I loved watching it play out, and seeing how much Evan truly cared for Stevie. He needed to end up with someone who would both treat him as an equal but also support and protect him - Evan gave him that. Definitely worth reading as part of the series!

OMG!😍 I loved this one so much! Age-gap, sweet and adorable with hilarious situations. In some parts of the book I was laughing my ass off. I was really fond of the two main characters. This is a story with little angst, no cheating, but full of love. Fully recommended on my behalf! Enjoy!

So this novella is really just such fun.

To be honest I haven't been a fan of Stevie at all in these books he's the very flamboyant gay stereotype but he does provide the humour and is different to every other character in the series.

I'm not a fan of age gap romance but I must admit I did enjoy his and the Chiefs story. Funnily enough I would have loved this as a full length novel, there's so much here that could have been deeper and more detailed that could make you love it more.

Stevie, you changed my heart you can be my friend any time 😘
