This is book 5 in the Claire Rollins mystery series.
An old acquaintance of Claire’s boyfriend, Detective Ian Fuller, asks to have the cold case murder of her mother reopened. Instead, Claire is brought into the old mystery and starting at the beginning, she and the detectives work to uncover the details of the past. With the help of her "intuition" and with her best friend by her side, will Claire find the answers before the killer panics and is prepared to do anything to keep his identity a secret?

Besides her Tipperary Carriage series, which is phenomenal, Ms Whiting again scores a great hit with this series. Rest assured I’ll be following Claire to the end. Hopefully May and Ross will have more adventures!

Another great J A Whiting book in this series. Love the characters. Love that Claire helps her friends financially. There were several suspects. The one I picked was not correct so that was a surprise.

Claire is asked to help with another cold case because of her success with the last one. Thirty years ago a five year old comes out to find her mother dead when she wakes up in morning. The evidence that the police had was destroyed in a fire years ago. The only thing the police have is the witnesses. They contact one of the police who looked into cold case and he kept copies of his files, they now have something as a guide. Nicole is competing for a wedding contract and she finds out her landlord won't renew her lease. Really good story.

Once again Claire Rollins and boyfriend Detective Ian Fuller take on a cold case when Detective Mike Gagnon asks them to review the file. Kelly Carter Cox lost her mother to a murder at a very young age. Its been 30 years and Kelly would like to have her mother Janice’s murder solved. As Claire and her friend Nicole interview those who might have been connected to the murder, the secondary story line is Claire opening up to Ian about her paranormal abilities and what her life was like when she was a corporate attorney and married to her husband Teddy. While I would totally not recommend reading the series out of order, this book did provide to the reader the past history.

This series has everything I could want…..two adorable dogs, CHOCOLATE, romance, evil doers doing evil deeds, mystery, charming characters, no editing problems, no graphic violence, no sex, did I mention there is chocolate?, and mild paranormal doings. I can hardly wait to start the next one! They can be stand alone (no cliffhanger endings)….but, I recommend read them in order so you are up to date with the backstory on the characters. Enjoy!

The victim’s daughter was 5 when she found her mother’s body in a pool of blood. 30 years later she visits the police and asks them to reopen the cold case. There wasn’t much out there, 30 years ago, in forensic testing and a few years later nearly everything that was evidence burned up in a small fire at the police station. The lead Cop in the initial investigation is living in a rest home in advanced stages of Alzheimer’s. Claire and her best friend, Nicole, are starting with an almost blank slate. The interviews and the people they talk to start to bring new insights. You will have to stay on your toes with this one, too.
  • Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2018
Reasonably decent book as Claire's boyfriend asks that she and Nicole work on a cold case for an old friend of his. All old evidence and investigation notes were lost due to a fire, so all information on this 30 year old case must be started anew. It doesn't take long for the reader to know who the killer is in this story, but you have to wait for the investigators and their sixth sense to catch up. Not a lot of sidebar stories here, just pretty much a straight forward story.
