Fourth and Long (Three Rivers Ranch Romance™ Book 3) Kindle Edition
A cowboy contractor, his ex-wife, and the son he never knew he had…
In this heartwarming tale of love, loss, and redemption, Kate Donnely is forced to face the consequences of her past actions. After keeping her son Reid's existence a secret from his father, Brett Murphy, for seven years, she embarks on a journey to reunite them.
Driving down a dusty road to Three Rivers Ranch, where Brett is rumored to be working, Kate's emotions threaten to overpower her as she struggles to find the courage to tell Brett the truth.
Upon arriving at the ranch, Kate finally comes face-to-face with Brett, the man she had married just before his deployment to Afghanistan. He thought they were divorced.
He was wrong.
As she introduces him to Reid, their vibrant seven-year-old son, she is met with anger and disbelief. Despite his initial shock, Brett refuses to let Kate take their son away, insisting that Reid deserves to have a father in his life.
He convinces Kate to stay in Three Rivers for the summer so they can have a second chance at building the family he didn’t know he had. He still loves her, and he adores being a father—but he has to find a way toward forgiveness.
Oh, and he’s still active in the Army and could be called up at any time.
Will their love be enough to heal the wounds they've inflicted on one another? Or will they allow the bitterness of their past to tear their family apart forever?
This gripping romance is a testament to the power of forgiveness and the unbreakable bond between a parent and child. With its vivid portrayal of the emotional turmoil that comes with love, loss, and second chances, readers will be captivated by this story of two broken hearts mending together. Dive into this emotional journey of love and rediscovery that will leave you yearning for a love as resilient as Kate and Brett's.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2023Reading the 3 books so far has been exciting. This one was the best of the 3. As I read them, I feel like I am there, I felt the pain Squire, Pete and Brett went through, when Squire tank got hit. Finding love but with the back flashes, they turned to church and find GOD along with answers on how to love. Finding their mate, having a ranch family.
This is another series of I feel like I am on a wonderful vacation and felling all the emotions, love and how great our God is.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2016Kate shows up looking for Brett, to tell him he has a 7-year-old son, Reid, and that they aren't, in fact, divorced; together, they must figure out how to forgive and where to go from here.
(Though reviews are inherently subjective, I prefer to provide some organization to my opinions through the use of a personal rubric. The following notes may contain spoilers.)
Plot and Setting: 4.5 -- Plot has unique elements and no major holes, but a few shaky bits. Setting is clear, believable, and consistent. I really enjoyed the letters to each other that are interspersed with the main story. Some of the interactions with other characters (like Kate's 2 encounters with Olivia, or the several encounters with Sandy, or even involvement in Tom's date with Tammy) seemed unfinished, and therefore unnecessary.
Characters: 4 -- Mostly relatable, realistic, interesting, dynamic characters. Even minor characters have depth. I can understand Brett not sending his emails, and repeatedly trying to locate Kate, and loving her so readily again even with all her secrets. I can less easily understand Kate. I guess her refusal to walk with God is a large part of it, but I can't quite wrap my mind around her loving Brett for all those years, and never reaching out to him. Sure, confessing would be hard, but waiting longer only makes it harder. Sounds like her mother was a difficult woman, but she was spot on in her insistence that Kate talk to Brett.
Writing and Mechanics: 4.5 -- Few, if any, typos or word errors. Intelligent use of alternating POV. Generally skillful writing. More of that characteristic triple-repeating style, which worked better in some places than in others. I like it as an example of the author's unique style, but when it is part of the narration from multiple characters' POV, it seems a bit strange. Not everybody actually thinks that way. And in this one, it wasn't just narration, it showed up in their letters, which makes it even more odd.
Redeeming Value: 4 -- Incidental uplifting themes. They talk about forgiving each other, and looking for direction from God (though when they get conflicting answers, that aspect isn't followed up on well). Poor Pastor Scott apparently continues to give sermons that basically no one listens to. Sex, alcohol, drugs, violence, etc, are not glorified at all. Brett obviously feels positive enough about the Army to continue to serve, but flat-out says he hates war, and we see some of the damaging effects of violence.
Personal Enjoyment: 4 -- I liked it a lot. Highly enjoyable and very entertaining, with perhaps an issue or two that tempered my pleasure. I’d enjoy reading it again.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2020I love this book, the characters are so real- the way Liz has developed their story is really wonderful. She has a real gift for telling stories that speak to your heart, intrigue you to keep reading. So, far I haven’t been disappointed with any of her books, her characters all mesh together from book to book. Making you want to find out more about how their stories & lives mesh together to become a much bigger family. Proving once again that with God in your life all things are possible.
I’m going to recommend to my friend Mary that she read Liz Isaacson’s books - I know she will enjoy all of them, just as I have enjoyed them.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2022Commander Brett Murphy is working at Three Rivers Ranch when his ex-wife, Kate Donnely shows up and tells him he has a 7 year old son. She also tells him they are still married. He wants to try again and remain in his son’s life, but they must overcome issues of trust and past hurts, and in the middle he is recalled and deployed. A tenderhearted story and a must read.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2017Relationships are often difficult and require work and sacrifice on both sides. Having God in that process is so very important and will lead to better happiness if we but listen to what he says. This is shown in this book and the necessity of forgiveness and giving between Brett and Kate. A great read and one I could not put down. Sometimes found myself with tears as I read about and felt their struggles. My appreciation also was enlarged for the sacrifices of our soldiers who fight for the freedoms and their families as they wait anxiously for the safe return of loved ones. Thank you for this! I read a lot and like to sense what the characters feel but don't usually become so connected but did with this reading Wou recommend this any who want a clean writing of the forgiveness, sacrifice and love we all need to have. Maybe it would help many marriages and relationships out there!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
I have never heard of this Author. I usually like Francine Rivers, Tessa Asfah and others like that. I watched Heartland on Netflix. I searched for TV programs like that and Liz Issacson came up. I love horses from that program. I read the first three books, than bought the others. I love her writing style, it is clean, and I love the way Yehovah is the centre of all the people involved.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book
Loved it. I've enjoyed all of the series so far, but I particularly liked the letters/emails throughout - even though they often wouldn't be my thing at all. Clean and well-written, I recommend this book (and the series) as stories that draw you in to the characters' lives. The books are stand-alone but share characters from other books in the series - so reading in order is helpful but in no way essential.

Loved this book. Really well written and an easy inspirational read. I am an o.a.p.but still found it uplifting and informative. I am also British so enjoyed seeing things through an American's eyes. Keep up the good work. I look forward to reading many more of your stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read !
A story of young love, "married in haste", misunderstanding, an eight year separation, introduction of a seven year old son to a father who didn't know of his existence, and lots of need of forgiveness and understanding. All wrapped up with my favorite ending of happy ever after.
