Through The Garden Gate: A collection of 24 short stories (Garden stories) Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 31 ratings

THROUGH THE GARDEN GATE

Shirley can't see the beauty Hugh pictures in the patch of bare earth, but is happy to help him bury the flower bulbs as deep as she keeps her secret. The Adkins always put on a brave face, something Iris is determined to do, even if she doesn't know why it's needed.

Julie and her cousin are twigs from the same branch, so why does she feel like a sapling in the shade of his mighty oak? Ryan knows he's good at nurturing plants – can he learn to do the same with the family he longs for? Like snowdrops underground, Ollie waits throughout the winter of Jasmine's life, until she's ready to accept the warmth of spring and his love.

Jamie feels safe in the garden. If he's really good, maybe they'll let him stay. 'The lad' hasn't been seen on the allotments for days and Bert has a horrible feeling he's responsible. Everyone says Peace Cottage is a wonderful house, surrounded by a lovely garden, so why won't anyone live there?

Gardens, plants and people all have their stories. Step through the garden gate and I'll tell you a few.

Patsy Collins spends her time making things up and writing them down from her home in Lee-on-the-Solent or whilst traveling in a campervan. She shares both with her photographer husband, and sometimes acts as his assistant. When away she also enjoys scrambling round ruined castles, visiting friends and eating cake. At home she gardens, bakes (and then eats) cakes. She's the author of over 30 books.

Everything you want from a collection of well written short stories. Warm, insightful and a real mix to suit all tastes. I had previously enjoyed Escape to the Country by this author and loved it. These stories did not disappoint .I shall definitely be reading more by this writer.

Like a box of mixed sweets, this is a nice collection of short stories, to be enjoyed one at a time, or scarfed down greedily. Each is about the right length to read on break with your tea and biscuits. Most of them are upbeat "slice of life" stories, although "Please Remember Me" is a little more ominous, bringing to mind Homer's lotus eaters. If a job sounds too good to be true, maybe you'd better think about it. As always, I enjoyed Patsy's writing. Her style reminds me of Maeve Binchy.

Lovely collection of charming stories to warm your heart. Patsy is a prolific writer with a great talent. So if you love short reads, this is for you but you may need to finish all the stories in one go!

A collection of short stories that blossom on the page and assail the senses. A delightful dip into a variety of themes that take root and afford a pleasurable read.

Another lovely collection from Patsy to add to my bedside reading. 'Good boy' is particularly moving.
