Genetic Bullets: A Techno Thriller of Genetic Warfare and Hidden Agendas (A Rossler Foundation Mystery Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 863 ratings

They thought it was just a lost city—until the death toll began.

When Professor Charles Summers leads an expedition deep into Antarctica’s Transantarctic Mountains, he hopes to uncover a lost civilization. Instead, they unearth something far more sinister—a 35,000-year-old city hiding an ancient and deadly plague.

Within weeks, five million are dead. Another ten million are dying. Billions more will follow.

But this is no ordinary disease. It targets only certain ethnic groups.

Governments fear it’s a genetic bioweapon, engineered for ethnic cleansing and now deployed with devastating precision. Panic spreads. Nations turn on each other. The world teeters on the brink of war.

Economic and political chaos erupt. Stock markets crash. Lawlessness spreads. Radical solutions are considered—and executed. Within days, full-scale war is inevitable. Half the world’s population will be wiped out in a final apocalyptic battle. Nuclear warheads are armed. Military forces are ready to strike.

And there are those who want this to happen.

Only Summers and his small team may have the knowledge to stop it. But can they? Will they even be allowed to try? More importantly, is there enough time?

Genetic Bullets is the explosive sequel to Ninth Cycle Antarctica and the third thrilling installment in JC Ryan’s acclaimed Rossler Foundation Mystery series, delving into genetic engineering, global conspiracies and the fight to prevent humanity’s darkest fate.

JB Lazarte Amazon Reviewer - Heart-stopping! Anyone who loves a good thriller is probably already familiar with writer JC Ryan and his Rossler Foundation Series. I have toadmit, Genetic Bullets is my formal introduction to the series and the author, and while I may now need to read the first two books, I have no regrets about reading this treat first.

As a fan of thriller novels myself, I was instantly hooked with the plot of Genetic Bullets. It probably has to do with the fact that thisis already the third book, but still, a novel that starts immediately into action within the first few pages show good promise. Case in point, Genetic Bullets opens with the team already in the middle of an expedition that led to the discovery of a 35,000-year old city that holds deadly secrets.

One of the best elements in Genetic Bullets for me is the book's conflict--the world facing an apocalypse because of a virus that infects and kills people within weeks. With millions already dead, it's up to the Rossler Foundation to not only find a way to deal with the imminent plague, but also to somehow stop political unrest among nations worldwide. The entire plot screams thriller, and readers will not be able to resist finishing the book in only a few hours.

Apart from the gripping plot, the characters are also well-established. Personally, I like an author that introduces the character swell but also trusts the readers enough to figure some things out for themselves. Ryan was able to do that with the characters in Genetic Bullets, and I'm fairly certain that he offered the same treatment in the previous books in the series.

Overall, Genetic Bullets was a heart-stopping delight to read, and I can't wait to go back and read the first two instalments in the Rossler Foundation series.

NDP_NYC Amazon Reviewer - A medical thriller that really thrills. This is the follow up to'Ninth Cycle Antarctica' which was a great book. And this one is just as good,if not better. In the 'Ninth Cycle' an expedition to Antarctica finds a previously unknown 35,000-year-old buried city. The expedition is not without its trials and tribulations, not the least of which is the ongoing battles with the malevolent Orion society. As the story continues in 'Genetic Bullets', a second expedition goes back to do more in-depth research and makes an unexpected discovery: the city is host to a killer virus that, once unearthed by the expedition, spreads worldwide and kills millions. The virus only affects certain groups of people, giving rise to speculation about its origins and purpose. As the plague spreads, it causes political and social upheaval around the world, including governments accusing other governments of being behind the pandemic and threatening war. Many believe that if it cannot be stopped, the disease may cause the end of the world.

There are sub-plots and many plot twists here that keep it fresh and constantly engaging. There is also a romance, but really this is a medical thriller that incorporates elements of human genetics, epidemiology,DNA as well global politics. Throughout there is a "race against time" feeling that makes it hard to stop reading - I found myself having a hard time putting it down because of the anticipation of what would happen next.

Nadia Scrieva Amazon Reviewer - A stunning and satisfying book! First of all: the chapter headings. I love a book with cute and witty chapter titles, and this book had the best chapter titles I have ever seen. I am 100% serious. You will be smiling before you even start to read the chapter! I loved them, and found myself looking forward to each one. No matter how intense things get, the chapter titles keep things light.

Second of all, I wish I could rate this book ten stars. Five isn't enough.

Genetic Bullets, from the title, to the first word, and until the very last page, kept me on the edge of my seat. It wasn't enough for the author to create a fantastic world for us to explore, but also engaging and really amazing characters to anchor us in. They were depicted perfectly and so realistically that I was completely swept away in each and every interaction

This makes a perfect third instalment to the series and it's just as beautifully written. As a huge fan of mystery, suspense, and action, this one really does it for me. The book has several scintillating plot twists that will leave you excited and drooling for more. This is the greatest read that I have had the pleasure of encountering in ages. I am so pleased to have discovered JC Ryan! I will be a loyal reader for years to come.

This is really fantastic work.

As a huge fan (and I mean HUGE) of JC Ryan and his Rossler Foundation Mystery book series, finding that a third book is now out actually blew my mind: needless to say, I bought this book, ‘Genetic Bullets’ in a heartbeat.

If you’re picking up this book on a whim, you should know that the previous book, ‘Ninth Cycle Antarctica’ provides the backstory. While in the previous book, the Rossler Foundation expedition team unearths a city deep within the Transantarctic Mountains, sending shockwaves of intrigue and interest across archaeological circles and other interest groups, including the villainous Orion Society. Now in ‘Genetic Bullets’, the Rossler Foundation sends a second expedition to further understand what secrets that the 35,000-year-old city hides within its confines. But as it turns out, the secret is invisible and utterly deadly: a virus that kills everyone it infects within weeks, and it is so virulent that it quickly creates a pandemic across the world—killing tens of millions of people and creating incredible unrest and international conflict that could lead, ultimately, to an actual global apocalypse. With so many people dying and with no apparent cure, governments harbour deep, fierce distrust of one another, creating a highly volatile situation that could easily lead to the final destruction of mankind.

Now if that doesn’t get your juices flowing, then I don’t know what will. Ryan always has the knack for building up the kind of suspense thrillers that are propelled by their own dynamic, and ‘Genetic Bullets’ is no exception. The tension mounts unwaveringly chapter after chapter, and by the middle of the book, it becomes impossible to put this book down—you must read through to the end or, as they say, lose your marbles.

As polished and carefully and masterfully plotted as Ryan’s two previous books, ‘Genetic Bullets’ offers some more surprises up its proverbial sleeve. I love, for instance, the first part of the book—the preparation and all the politics involved, as well as the plot asides (the romance developing between JR and Rebecca and all its implications for the expedition team)—which succeeds largely in setting the tone for the rest of the story. The relative peace of the first part juxtaposes starkly with the sheer chaos of the book’s latter part. The thing about the author is that Ryan can go in and out of complicated plot twists largely unscathed—every turning point is as breathtaking as the last, and the resolution—after all the winding roads that the story has taken—feels as satisfying as a desperate embrace.

Let me suffice it to say that this is an incredible book—drop what you’re doing and get a copy of ‘Genetic Bullets’. Or send this as a gift to anyone you know who has read Ryan’s previous two books—they will be more than grateful and delighted. Another literary homerun, this book is a five-star read from start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars So I'm Raving? Good! These books deserve it!
Reviewed in Australia on November 3, 2014
I have read Ryan's first two novels, just finished the third and about reach for the fourth. This is quality reading with logic behind every idea he presents.
I have long ago decided that no one in our present 'cycle' could have possibly built the Great Pyramid by slave labour - who would place the cap stone? Logic rules out these old ideas and it's time for some to take the bull by the horns and get us thinking outside the square.
This is what JC Ryan does and it is with some relief I read what I have been wondering and thinking about for the past thirty years! At long last someone is making sense.
There is no way that so many of the long distant megaliths were built by this 'cycle' of humanity, it is asking the very best of us to believe the ludicrous idea that there were recent - I said recent - ancestors who could out do us and we don't understand how or why.
My question is, why do we keep allowing ourselves to be blindfolded by this belief when it has no sense attached?
JC Ryan takes the bull by the horns and steps away from all we have been blindsided with and opens up a real understanding that we are not the first civilisation on this planet - and why should we be?
The earth is over four and a half BILLION years old, plenty of time for several other civilisations to rise and fall... and talk about falling, it would seem we are about to make the same mistakes all over again.

I wonder if we'll ever learn?

Thank you JC Ryan for a real brain bender with thoughts that will keep me going and a feeling that sometime soon, before I die we will know, understand and accept more.
