Adele is a writer with a fascination for history. Her focus is fiction in the Tudor era, telling the stories of women and adventure. Whether it’s inspired by true events or created purely from imagination, she desires to write stories from this captivating era that haven’t been written before of those on the edges of society, the paupers, the spies, the workers and those who have not had a voice.

Adele studied English at the University of Exeter before moving into an eclectic career of publishing and marketing. Having worked with the National Trust’s photography department for two years, Adele travelled the country to visit the landscapes and historical places that have carved England and Wales’ heritage. When Covid struck, the job disappeared overnight, and Adele committed her time to ghost writing and authoring her own stories, returning to her childhood dream job. Since then, she has had over twenty successful books published as a ghost writer and hopes to turn that success into stories now written in her own name.

    Adele Jordan “the gentlewoman spy”
Nice , adventurous story of a woman-spy, placed at the second half of the reign of Elizabeth I.
It’s fast paced, engaging and entertaining. 1584 is marked with trouble brewing from Mary Queen of Scots supporters and threat to Elizabeth I life and crown. Strategically placed Walsingham’s intelligencers uncover and trying to thwart Mary’s supporters plots against the Queen.
The main character is Kit (Kitty, Katherine) Scarlett, brought up and taught by Walsingham himself as a spy. Unlikely paired with young Scotsman Iomhar, the fellow agent, both prove to be efficient and capable to untangle the treasonous yarn of events.
Plenty of historic details will please a history buff and entertain anybody who loves a good spy story.

The actual writing is pretty bad: Frequent sentences with no verbs, or too many verbs, or wrong declension, and/or incorrect or excessive or missing punctuation. The characters are likable but no mystery or depth, and the dialogue, relationships and plot lines are fairly obvious and (thanks to loud foreshadowing) predictable. Nevertheless, I finished the book, and it was a pleasant way to squander an afternoon, so there’s something there.

I’d say not too bad for a first book, except the author claims to have ghostwritten numerous books. Maybe they landed in the hands of a competent editor? This one surely didn’t, mores the pity.

Adele Jordan cannonballs the reader into the story immediately and never slows down. Clever build up with Kit and Iomhar’s interactions along with gentle hints of Kit’s past lends more intrique in the story. Then there is the spymaster himself, Walsingham, his puzzling family dynamics with Kit, his secrets relating to both Kit and Iomhar, and the question of how he came to care for Kit . Yes, greatly looking forward to the next books in this series!

The interaction between the two principals was delightful. The plot was engaging. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a darn good read. I will certainly visit Adele Jordan again. Especially if she has these two delightful principals at the center.

I am so thrilled that I was chosen to read this book! I found it to be q really enjoyable read. I was excited to find that although when I thought I had the ending worked out, I was proved wrong!! I love when I'm proven wrong.

I look forward to the next book and hope that this will turn into a fine little series. Thoroughly wonderful read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great read, interesting characters

OK, loosely tied to a specific point in history although (probably) not a historic event. The author did not reference specific events that directly impacted the story. Nonetheless the story covers some of the feelings and ideas of the period and wrapped it into a fast paced and enjoyable story. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Excellent plot with interesting characters. The story starts with Walsingham's spys and finishes with an assassination plot to remove Elizabeth I from the throne it is a perfect book for escapism and to provide a wrlcome distraction from the foul weather.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could be better written
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 28, 2022
This is a first novel and I rather like the premise it’s based on. But I feel the actual writing could do with improvement. For example sentences are not always carefully or well constructed and there are punctuation mistakes. Perhaps the author would benefit from better/ closer editing. The characters are likable but not well developed enough and the dialogue, relationships and plot lines are predictable. Nevertheless, I finished the book, so the characters and set up have promise.

5.0 out of 5 stars A worthy addition to the genre
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 22, 2022
As a fellow writer of female-led action adventures set in Elizabethan England, I was curious to see how Adele Jordan was going to approach the genre. I certainly wasn't disappointed - the heroine Kit is an engaging character, and her relationship with Iomhar provides a strong central narrative. The villain is also suitably nasty, and provides a worthy foe for Kit to pit her wits against.
There were some action sequences I had to re-read a couple of times to make sure I had understood them correctly, but that was a minor point. Overall this is a very enjoyable book and I am looking forward to the next adventure!
