The Girl With Flaming Hair: A Regency Romance full of twists and turns Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 128 ratings

A dazzling Regency adventure full of twists and turns! For fans of Georgette Heyer, Mary Balogh, Jane Aiken Hodge and Jane Austen.

Sophie is plagued by the shadows of the past…

Regency England

While driving his curricle,
Rufus Solgrave, Earl of Luxton comes across Sophie Clifford lying unconscious in the road, having fallen from her horse.

Not too far from home, he takes her back to Ashby, his country seat, leaving her in the care of his mother,
Elizabeth, Countess of Luxton, and his sister, Lydia. Under their kindly supervision, Sophie soon begins to recover.

Upon discovering that Sophie has never mixed with London society, Elizabeth invites her to accompany the family to town for Lydia’s come-out. Unhappy with her homelife and eager to sample the delights of the season, Sophie accepts.

However, her enjoyment is marred when talk of an old scandal surrounding her birth resurfaces. What’s more, her devious stepbrother,
Francis Follet, has followed her to London, intent on making her his bride.

Sensing Sophie’s distress, Rufus steps in to protect her from Francis’s unwelcome advances.

And although neither Rufus nor Sophie are yet thinking of marriage, both soon begin to wonder whether their comfortable friendship could blossom into something warmer…

THE GIRL WITH FLAMING HAIR is a historical romantic tale set in Regency England, with a spirited and intelligent heroine at its heart.

It is such a delightful pleasure to read this clean and not-so-lengthy novella. The writing is true to Regency times, as well as the behavior and exchanges amongst the characters, which gives much information in terms of how the titled and wealthy classes acted and conducted themselves. The story and characterization are well-thought out and described. Everything fits perfectly. This reader learned to admire the characters-protagonists and how seemingly perfect they are as themselves and for each other, and couldn’t help but root for their happily ever after. However, this seemingly-perfect-woven story is what caused this reader to take down a star. It’s not that there were no angst, as there were plenty. It’s just too good to be true; which is why this reader would classify this as a romantic fairy tale for the flaming red-haired and those who came in close proximity with and cared for.

However, anyone who is desirous of a well-written and developed story would definitely appreciate this lovely romance. This reader will surely look for and read of more novels by this author.

I enjoyed the characters and the plot. I didn't have any unanswered questions and this had a happy ending. I love having the dictionary references right in the text on my Kindle because I did use it a few times.

I enjoy regency romances, but have noticed that often they star an arrogant, borderline mute, male MC. What struck me with this novel is that the Earl of Luxton is actually likeable! He even has good relationships with his friends and family. Is that even allowed? 😂 In all seriousness this was a really sweet friends to lovers story (my favorite trope) with great MC’s and supporting characters. If there are any spin offs/sequels I would read them. The Girl With Flaming Hair was exactly what I needed after my last book stomped all over me and left me in pieces.

I recommend this to all fans of romance who are looking for a light and easy read, with no steam.

As Regency romantic novels go, this is one of the best I've read recently. Not quite as predictable as this genre generally is, with some really likeable characters and no real villain. Gentle, as always, and a lovely way to escape the frenetic lifestyle of the 21st century for a few hours. Thanks to the publisher, Sapere Books, for the opportunity to read it.

I liked the unexpected twists in the story. They were unpredictable. Sophie grew up with little affection from her stepfather and stepmother. The stepmother's son was hounding Sophie to marry him. She always rejected his offer. Each time he would allude to some secret about her life that would ruin her but would never tell her what it was. Then she entered the lives of the earl's family, Rufus Solgrave. Her life changed 180 degrees. She experienced many things for the first time. In London she faced one of her greatest challenges. Little did she know there was more to come. Rufus never left her side and had been essential to her happiness. This was a crazy twisted story of family skeletons, lies, manipulation, kindness and love. A very good read. I do recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great Regency feel.

I enjoyed Natalie Kleinman’s last Regency novel and this one is even better. It has the same wonderful language, feel for the period in the same vein, and as good as Georgette Heyer.
This story is more complex than the last and was thoroughly engaging. Will they or will they not engage. Even when we know the outcome to this relationship there is intrigue and the necessity for certain resolution of other matters.
    It’s all very satisfying.

I rarely read Recency fiction but found this to be a charming story which taught me much about the life and manners of the time. Sophie is a very likeable heroine and Rufus the perfect gentlemanly hero. Although the pace of life is inevitably slow, the book managed to deliver plenty of drama, excitement and danger alongside the drawing room chatter and ballroom etiquette. Well researched and plotted, with a satisfying ending for all the characters.

It was a bit difficult to follow because of the different manner of speaking or writing
However I read almost every word
