SPF 1066 (Gothcraft Book 2) Kindle Edition
That's what she wants for everyone.
But sometimes you just get burned.
Rae Schwarz has been a witch all semester, and she still isn't sure what's safe for whom.
Still haunted by the events of the past Halloween, she knows there's more to her magic—and the threats surrounding it—than what's in the movies.
Still, she's only slowly realizing a lot of things about herself and the heritage she has yet to fully face.
Will she and everyone she cares about even survive until summer vacation?
SPF 1066 continues the adventures begun in You're Not a Real Goth Until You Sack Rome.

About the authors
Author Jeffrey Cook lives in Maple Valley, Washington, with his wife and three large dogs. He was born in Boulder, Colorado, but has lived all over the United States. He's contributed to a number of role-playing game books for Deep7 Press out of Seattle, Washington, but the Dawn of Steam series are his first novels. When not reading, researching or writing, Jeffrey enjoys role-playing games and watching football.
Katherine Perkins lives wherever the road of a Visiting Assistant Professor's family takes her, her husband, and one extremely skittish cat. She was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, and will defend its cuisine on any field of honor. She is the editor of Jeffrey Cook's Dawn of Steam series and serves as Jeff’s co-author for the YA Fantasy Fair Folk Chronicles (beginning with Foul is Fair) and various short stories, including those for the charity anthologies of Writerpunk Press. When not reading, researching, writing, editing, or occasionally helping in the transcription of Braille songbooks, she tries to remember what she was supposed to be doing.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2021This one seemed less forced and the plot flowed well. Actual time is taken for the characters to learn necessary things. Quite enjoyed this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly enjoyable YA Fantasy read
Rae continues to juggle school and her newly accepted role. Her mother is still plotting and Rae and her friends and family must work together once again to manage the newest threat, with a somewhat surprising outcome. Along the way we get to see Rae develop and grow more into her role. We also get even more character growth for her friend Erica, who again and again proves herself to be an endearing protector of those she cares about. We get growth in how all the character's relate to each other, the strength of their friendships, and how their lives are shaped by their experiences.
As much as this series is about Rae and her eventual confrontation with her mother, it could just as easily be framed as a series about Erica and her own challenges and how she faces them. She's got her own challenge defining and shaping her life that's tied to a parental figure. Watching that and how it runs parallel to Rae's is a treat. Rae's situation is defined by the magical but Erica's is rooted in the everyday.
