Granola Bars and Spaceships (Iska Universe Book 1) Kindle Edition
When Eric starts leaving food in front of an abandoned storefront in the crappy strip mall by his house, he thought he was helping a dog or a homeless kid. He gets the shock of his life when he discovers an alien instead. Not sure what else to do, especially with the alien bleeding and in shock, Eric realizes he’s about to have an unusual houseguest.
But as Keeska’s health improves, they both forget that Keeska should probably be finding a way home. As they grow increasingly close, they are forced to figure out the answers to questions they never thought would have to be asked…

- Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2022I had this in my book list for a while before actually reading it and I'm glad I finally read it, though sorry I didn't sooner. This was a delightful story with interesting and well done characters. The world building was excellent. I had a hard time putting it down to do necessary things. I look forward to reading more from this universe by this author. They can't help but be awesome, given how good this one was. First contact stories are hard to get right and Geneva Vand definitely got this one right. I'm also very happy there was no heavy angst, but understandable logistics problems with an alien being stuck on Earth. However, I like that Eric was not as skittish and weird as so many writers make their human first contact characters, but was open-minded and interested in a way that a lot of people probably would be. Same with Keeska (who sounds adorable) and their interactions. I really enjoyed them getting to know each other and the whole way the relationship progressed. Very good, very worth reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2020So I enjoyed this book but I also didn’t LOVE it. I thought the characters were interesting and likable. Eric is a librarian who discovers a hurt alien,Keeska, in an abandoned building and he and his friend Will (who is only mildly shocked) take him to Eric’s house to recuperate. Keeska is sweet and cute and the description of how he looks sounds unique. I was kinda disappointed that Keeska was sexless/asexual. So there’s no sexual ANYTHING in this book. Then because Keeska is genderless they use alien pronouns, which were sometimes confusing and threw me off repeatedly.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2020A great light read with adorable characters and a fun plot. Can't wait for more in the Iska Universe. Will definitely be reading more Geneva Vand.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2021Overall I liked the book and I've already read book two. I'll continue to read the authors books but be warned the author constantly switches between 1st person and 3rd person constantly in the books. It seems to be a stylistic choice because the human's POV is written in 3rd person and the alien's in 1st and I don't understand why. Every time the point of view switched it threw me out of the story. But overall an interesting, no heat series.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2021I love Geneva Vand, she is a master at taking something we’ve all seen before and making it all new. This is one of my top 5 favorite space romance. This story is VERY low heat, but the story speaks for itself. The world is imaginative, deals with real issues in a creative way, and you will fall in love.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2020I really enjoyed this story. It was short and sweet and full of feels. It was a nice change to see a loving relationship develop that didn't rely on sex and lust.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2021This book was an unexpected surprise. I’m really quite fond of human/alien pairings and this one had a delightful romantic vibe. Highly recommend this one.
