Name the Elephant in the Room... that's why this book was written.

In June of 1995, totally blindsided by her 14-year-old daughter's
suicide attempt, Jackie Simmons entered into a world of depression, addiction, medical mysteries, and deadly silences.

The Elephant: since 1995, the
number of teen suicides has risen drastically and still we hesitate to talk about it.

We know that
when it comes to suicide, silence is deadly. This book contains stories of heartache and stories of triumph.

Each story is designed to help you break the silence. The stories are real, raw, and sometimes comes with dog turds...

Inside this book, you'll also
find the guide to having "The Talk" to stop teen suicide, based on Jackie's TED talk.

You can learn more ways to stop teen suicide by watching Jackie's TED talk, visiting the
Teen Suicide Prevention Society online, and by joining us on The Suicide Prevention Show.

Learn more. Break the silence.
Have "The Talk."

Together, we'll save lives.

My passion is empowering children. We have to ensure that our children survive and have a chance to grow into the empowered souls they are capable of being. This book is a red flashing light that reminded me to stop assuming that the children will always be around and to do something that will ensure that they stay around. It taught me how to check on our children, protect our children, and encourage our children. What a gift in the battle against Teen Suicide!

I intend to read this book over again several times. It is something I believe everyone should refer back to for comfort, support, inspiration, encouragement and as a reminder that we ALL have gone through ups and downs throughout life, but it is how we get up that matters, no matter how many times we may fail or fall short. Great read!

This book is a critical step in reaching our youth before they reach the point of contemplating suicide. I was 24 when I contemplated suicide as a solution to get out of a terrible marriage. It took me years of study and therapy to learn the kinds of skills this book shares. I love that there are so many different methods and techniques taught, because some get better results than others depending on the individual. If ever there was a book a family needs to read together, IT'S THIS ONE!

This book is so relevant for what's happening in the world today. Everyone, at whatever age, will relate to these real stories where someone is faced with a challenge. Life is full of setbacks, challenges, and hardships. It takes inner strength to handle whatever life throws at you. The good news is that you build more resilience as a result of the challenges you face and the way you overcome them.

As someone who had attempted suicide in my past and then found myself falling into a life of addiction as a result of how I felt, this is a book that really resonated with me. It's about time we starting to bring more awareness to topic and this book does just that! My suicide attempts always filled me with so much shame because it was a topic not many people wanted to talk about. I feel that it's so important to start talk about the things that so many of us feel or have experiences but afraid to share. Thank you for this amazing read!
