    I’ve loved this series, all of the stories and all of the women have been so amazing. Anna Stone cannot write a bad book. It’s bittersweet where this is the last one and I’ve truly enjoyed each book. If your sapphic and looking for a good series or standalone with spice and a plot line than look no further.     Sexy and romantic with a bit of adventure and mystery, Guarded Desires is an excellent addition to the Mistress series. Little bit of threading other Mistress characters and story makes this a nice part of the whole, but the book stays focused on Amber and her bodyguard, Carmen, and the threat of a mysterious stalker. The idea of giving over, whether in self awareness, realization about family, or stepping into relationship adds depth with subtlety, and makes this book so much better than any others with bodyguard trope. Writing just feels elegant, with BDSM exchanges realistic and hot.

    Disclaimer: I love the Mistress series so this book, as the last in the series, was highly anticipated.

    So, as it turns out, bodyguards can be femme :) who knew?
    I love Anna Stone's writing and am quite familiar with it by now so I enjoyed the book, loved the story and the characters, and as always. it's fun to see familiar faces making a cameo appearance. The sex was steamy and skilfully portrayed (as always in Anna's books) and the power exchange dynamic was wonderful. Carmen's inner conflict was well established and her acceptance of herself and her desires was gradual and realistic. I could have used more emotional reasoning with Amber but I still enjoyed it. She waited so long to find someone, I couldn't begrudge her for rushing into it when Carmen was so clearly a perfect fit for her :)

    However, if you haven't read Anna's books yet, I highly recommend starting off with another book. Preferably the first of this series (Tangled Vows). Why? because there are certain presupposed premises that are not detailed in this book and may get you to raise your brows instead of just enjoying the flow of the story. I am not saying this as a negative thing. Quite the contrary, I believe this book was written with fans of the series in mind and I truly appreciate the fact that Anna skips some elementary stages of BDSM relationship development for the sake of the flow. However, I realize this may bother people who are new to the series...

There was also communication which gasp is a huge pet peeve of mine so it was refreshing to read. Personally wished there was a little more resistance or build up to the eventual breakdown to get down 😜 but understand that it’s also nice to have some steamy scenes so it’s not a slow burn. All in all it’s definitely worth a read, especially if you’ve read other Mistress Books (although it’s not necessary to read this one)

    I don't usually read the 4th book in a series without reading the others first, but this seemed like it could stand alone, and it did.
