If you are looking for a teaching tool, there are excellent books in the print for that purpose. If you understand a bit of music theory or are intuitive about organizing information for practical purposes, then this is an excellent tool.
Expanded Review
Somethings that did not make sense to you, will be brought to light as you see a bigger picture of sound possibilities and music in general for practical purposes.
The material alone will not make you a master of your instrument, but a savvy student looking to develop and mature as a musician, will find this book quite a good mine of resources.
If you’re a songwriter and are curious about expanding the overall sound and tone of your compositions, this resource might be helpful.
Consider that back of in the days Paul McCartney had to “ride a bus across Liverpool to learn B7, he says that they already knew E and A, so B was the "missing chord." He's talking precisely about this foundation of I-IV-V progressions.” That’s the value of this book for the savvy musician, no matter their level of music education. It is library of chords, progressions, scales and modes, dry as it can be.
It’s a reference tool but if you are going to keep it in your bookshelf, it is best to invest your money elsewhere. On the other hand, if you are disciplined and eager to learn new information for practical purposes and desire to go where no musician has gone before, this book is for you.
Finally, keep in mind that most hit songs use popular chord progressions from other commercial successes and are modified into “unique” compositions without breaking copyright laws.
So just because you come up with a chord progression which you can name after your grandfather, it does not mean your song is going to be a smashing hit.
If you want to sell music, write songs and lyrics that will be pleasant to the listening tastes of your fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars An exceptionally well thought out and clearly presented guide to music theory and practical guitar playing.
I’ve been playing the guitar for the best part of 50 years and gigging for probably half of those. I’ve picked up lots of theory and various ideas along the way and, somehow, this book connects it all together. This really is an excellent reference and tuition guide. It’s s taught me a few new things too.
It is extremely clear and well laid out. It keeps things simple and totally relevant to actually playing the guitar for fun. It never strays into deep academic stuff but keeps it very practical. I found that when I got interested in a topic which led me to ask more questions I would invariably find the answers on the subsequent pages. It really is carefully thought through and presented in a way that a guitarist would understand and enjoy.
I have many, many guitar tutors on my studio bookshelf but this is the one that I invariably reach for because I know I can get to what I need to know quickly. I thoroughly recommend this book and I hope it provides as many ‘lightbulb moments’ for you as it has done for me.
