    This was a beautiful second-chance holiday romance.

    Carole and Jo were young and so in love, but torn apart too quickly. Throughout the years, they only see each other at Christmas with cordial greetings and distant glances. Twenty years later, they no longer can deny what is still between them.

    This was a short one, written very well because I felt the pain and sadness the characters went through. The timeline kept flashing back to their youth - illustrating their love and teenage passion for each other. Beautiful story between Carole and Jo. ❤️

    Jo is down on her luck and is doing everything she can to make ends meet. It all makes her daily life a struggle. Her mother dead and her father in a care home, Jo is lonely. Her only companion is Roux, her sheepdog. Carole has a successful career but her private life is not so successful. Carole was her first love, her only love but Carole broke Jo's heart. Jo doesn't know what happened all those years ago. She doesn't know why Carole ended their relationship. Now, many Christmas cards and Christmas days later, things turning out right even when everything seems wrong. I liked this short story. Easy to read but the story has some loose ends. I would like to know, among other things, why Carole has waited 25 years. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed it.

    Short story of lesbian love and epic parental failure. The author can write and makes you feel quite easily but there was a lot of telling not showing. This could have been a full novel. Also a violent parent scene that did not get handled in the end imho. When a parent beats a kid for the first time ever somewhere when they are both older there is some manner of closure on it. If not it festers. Carole had all the opportunity to amend the Jo break up and she never did for 25 years? Just some loose ties. Quick read.

    The writing is good and the story engaging. This isn't an age gap romance but it sure is a time gap one. Just so many years between what did happen and what should have happened. It's good that time does heal some things, but it's better that the important things survive even the passing of time.

    This is a beautiful story about an eternal love. These characters have been in love with each other since they were teenagers but the cruelty of one man has kept them apart. Until finally, they can't take it anymore.
    There should have been a warning about this book not being suitable bedtime read since it was so sad at times.
