Graham brings to light a problem that exists for many women in the world--domestic abuse. Fleeing an abusive boyfriend and leaving all behind, including her parents, Stacey sets out for her freedom. Set up in Oregon, she figures he'll never find her, but her ugly past catches up with her when she least expects it. She needs to decide which will win out--fighting for her survival or her fear of violence.

Graham kept my attention until the end. It was a short read, yet complex, which was what I was looking for. I almost stopped reading near the beginning when Stacey mused over the death of an ant (yes, the insect), but I'm glad I kept going.

One thing I'd like to point out is there is no preview of the story on the look inside, but I downloaded anyway. As a suggestion to the author, maybe they could move things around so that readers can catch a glimpse of his story online.

However, this short is definitely worth downloading if you want a good story to read and are pressed for time.

I really enjoyed the short story +The Accidental Rebel". I don't usually care for short stories, but I did this time. As the main male character said to the female lead "I see you've finally grown a pair". I was so pleased that she did! Good for you Stacy! I would have preferred reading a longer version of this story, but I enjoyed it just the same. The excerpt for the next story was good too!,but for some reason I can't think of the name of it. But I recommend for you to read this book for yourself. I think you will enjoy it as much as I did. I also plan to read the full length version of the novel the excerpt came from, as soon as I page back to find out the name of it. Happy reading!

If it was possible to rate less than a star I would.
While the story certainly grabbed your attention and held it, It is not a book. It is a short story. And should be billed as such. Most of the "book" was a sneak preview for his next actual book.
I found the short story well written, but so disappointing in that it was purported to be a book. I would have loved to read more about the short story.

As ridiculous as this may sound, I bought this book WITHOUT my glasses on - thinking it was a new John Grisham novel. Man...was I ever pleasantly surprised! Joshua Graham has a HUGE talent for storytelling - his writing style grips you right from the start and builds into an addicting, fascinating plot that makes you read until you either finish the book or run out of time trying! I have found a new author to enjoy and share with everyone I know!

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

OK, the short tale was good. Its just that I didn't look thoroughly and thought I was reading a John Grisham, at first. The ending is not a Grisham, but still a good read

I don't usually read short stories, so this one was an accident, but a happy one. Graham's writing is first rate--great characters, and the action is fast-paced but not too fast. This is the story of an abused woman finally confronting her abuser. The story starts out with a bug in the woman's soup and she's so passive she can't even kill it--luckily the waitress is not so squeamish. Great opening to show the character of the abused woman. Then in walks the charming boyfriend who has tracked her down, and then then the action starts.
I've never heard of this author and might have accidently picked it up looking for a John Grisham novel--I have no idea, but I'm glad I found him because I love his writing and will be picking up more of his novels.

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! this is not a book.
Reviewed in Canada on November 7, 2014
IT'S 36 PAGES LONG - NOT A BOOK!!!....at $1.99 that's 5 cents per page! what a rip off. DON'T believe the reviews - they must be the author's friends and family. It should have at least been free if all it was was a dishonest way to get more readers. This should be fraudulent. It includes 36 pages of what you think might be a good story and then it ends - so its more like the last half of a chapter of a book - then it includes some chapters of another book - to hook you and suck you into buying that book.

This is a hook, not a book. It is nothing but excerpts however clever they may be. I took this on as a book because there was nothing to say it wasn't. Deleting it, and no more of this author's tricks for me!
