His Lordship's Downfall: Part One Kindle Edition

3.8 out of 5 stars 128 ratings

“A surprise! Shockingly sexy and rib-hurting funny!”--Amazon
"Had me panting and laughing at the same time!”--Goodreads
from New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Josie Litton

With profound apologies to Jane Austen, who through no fault of her own inspired this tale of outrageous contemporary romance. Although M/F, monogamous and HEA, this story is far more daring than any I’ve written before. Graphic language, brazen misbehavior and the use of unconventional devices for intimate purposes are only a few of its many sins.

Lord Adrian Burleigh is a devilishly handsome British lord with a taste for very naughty sex. In his world--where a modern-day British Empire still rules most of the globe--there are no limits for a man of such wealth and power. His privileged life is comfortable, controlled and predictable. Until, that is, he decides to acquire a “pet”.

Early on, the reader is likely to conceive a desire to do terrible things to Lord Adrian despite--or because of--his wicked appeal. Rest assured, this very badly behaved lord will receive his just deserts as he crosses paths with the daring young woman who is at once his downfall and his salvation.

His Lordship's Downfall contains some seriously intense, kinky action between a master and slave (who have entered into a mutually consensual, contractual arrangement for said action). But this isn't just another scandalously erotic Dom/sub novel. This is a story about a man finding his own humanity through his torment of a woman who is viewed within the aristocratic caste system of Litton’s world as a virtual inhuman non-entity.

Litton’s writing is technically flawless, her story line well crafted and thought provoking. But the real genius to me is in all the ways that she casually exploits our poor clueless Lordship, using him to showcase that ugly, relentless inner frailty that drives all true sadist dominants. I rather enjoyed the ongoing subtle power shift between the H and h—particularly, watching the H grow increasingly terrified of the chained woman he would only refer to as his “pet”.

Litton credits the work of Jane Austen as inspiration, but there’s some heavy underlying existentialism and absurdism to be found within this text. I feel like if Austen had lived about a century later and had engaged in a total power exchange relationship with a sadist Franz Kafka, this is pretty much how things might’ve gone down (minus a few convenient, kinky futuristic sexual devices). In any case, I like to think Jane Austen would approve.

First, I like Josie Litton's writing and I have read her other books. This was truly a dark romance. It is very intense and you are only receiving Lord Adrian's point of view. It had triggers for me, and I had to read some, then go to another book before I could come back to His Lordship's Downfall. I will read Part 2, as I mentioned I enjoy Josie Litton's books. This was just more then I was comfortable with, and yet I do want to see these books to their completion.

His Lordship - Lord Adrian is a self absorbed ember of the nobility. Half the time I thought he was a boor, the other ... still on the fence. That said, this book was interesting and imaginative and oh, so sexy. Recommend.

This story is sizzling!!! I think my Kindle melted!

Lord Adrian Burleigh has found his life of power and wealth to become quite boring lately. In reaction to that state, he has acquired a “pet”. He will train her well to respond to his hand, crop and sensual demands. What follows the introduction of his pet is a series of extremely sensual scenes where he administers what most would consider to be depraved acts upon her. She is an object. Something that he owns and in his mind has no humanity. Until he learns otherwise.

Adrian is a character that most would hate almost immediately. He does not endear himself to the reader. However, there were the little things that he thought or did that let me know there was more to him than what was on the surface. I actually enjoyed him all the more for it.

The ending left me hanging on a HUGE cliffhanger but the second book is already released and a complete edition is soon to be published.

London has a problem: One of their lords, Lord Adrian Burleigh, has just reached an untenable level of ennui. His solution after much soul-searching is to obtain a “pet” to mold to his own dark and sadistic desires. This young woman has been chosen according to his very exacting specifications, a perfect blank canvas for all his stunningly creative and sexually deviant behavior, skirting acts of extreme cruelty and mistreatment, and slowly becoming obsessed with his new plaything. Sooner or later though, something has got to give, and when it does, his world may never be the same.

Book #1 is written entirely in Adrian’s POV, quite befitting his self-indulgent needs and arrogantly controlling tendencies, unmindful of the fact that his pet is an actual human being, unlike the wolfhounds he seems to hold real affection for.

This story follows the arrogant Lord Burleigh and as part of a mutual agreement he acquires a new pet whom he uses for his own dark and sometimes sadistic fantasies but as the story unfolds Lord Burleigh finds himself drawn more and more towards his pet but not all is as it seems as Josie hints at a deeper story will Lord Burleigh get what he deserves for his brutish ways or can his new pet change him. This book is darker than Josie Litton's usual works and does come with warnings but if you think you are up for the challenge then this book is a must although it does end on a cliffhanger hopefully we won't have to wait to long for book 2. I received this book free for an honest review

Found his lordship a bit over the top with his cruelty but in a way I felt he was a victim of his own dark desires. Can't wait for the lesson he is given which he obviously needs.
