Born in Redditch, England, to a solicitor and an ex-military man, one of Katherine "Kate" Macdonald's earliest memories was of watching her parents disappear behind the pages of a book and wanting to follow them. For her, books were little pocket dimensions that could be carried about, and the safest way to have a very real adventure.

Rather than rebel during her teenage years, she spent most of them locked up in her room, furiously writing down the hundreds of stories filling her head. Her little sister Kirsty served as her primary audience, and first fan. Without her, Macdonald would never have continued to write.

After completing a BA in English and Creative Writing at Lancaster University, she moved to Exeter to train as an English teacher, and then to Kent to start her career. It was only after surviving a year of parenthood and a full-time job on less than six hours a night that she finally gained the courage to publish her most recent work, "The Rose and the Thorn" a retelling of Beauty and the Beast inspired by a dream of a girl surrounded by snow in a field of flowers.

At her heart, Macdonald is storyteller, and it is her dream to inspire others in the way that she has been inspired.

She currently lives in Devon with her manic 2-year-old, in a cabin in the woods.

Queen of Night wrapped up Hades and Persephone’s tale beautifully. Macdonald’s Faeries of the Underworld Duology was a fantastic YA retelling.

I really can’t even say anything more as I’m loathe to add spoilers but if you’re a fan of YA fantasy and romance, and enjoy Greek mythology and specifically Hades x Persephone retellings, pick these books up, you will not be disappointed!

I loved this book! This duology is excellent. The story is lovely and engaging. The characters are relatable and endearing. I highly recommend. This is a great sequel. You absolutely must read the first book before reading this. They belong together.

The plot twists in this story are excellent. This duology is the first of Katherine Macdonald's work that I have read. I am eager to read the rest of her back cannon and follow for more awesome stories! This series is easy to read.

I love mythology of all kinds, and I love stories of the fae. Put them together, and it's a romping good time! I recommend this duology to YA/NA readers.

I loved this story, the FMC becoming the savior was a great change of pace from the average romance. Entire book is full of amazing quotes on morality.

I devoured this book! I absolutely loved part one of the duology, and loved part two just as much. Maybe more! From the first section of book two, which gives us a little insight into Hades' thoughts, I was hooked. I love that broken fae boy! And the development of other characters in this second installment was wonderful! They really added to it. Of course the love story of Hades and Persephone was incredible. Overall, an amazing set of books that I definitely plan to read again!

Although this book has little to no spice, it's still a sweet romantic easy read.
Predictable but in a pleasant way, and although this isn't the best book I've ever read and there are some things I personally would have tweaked differently it was still bittersweet and I'm sad that it has come to an end.
I'm a sucker for anything Hades and Persephone related and I thoroughly did enjoy reading this.

Short review for a great sequel to finish this duology! I loved the raised stakes and the growth of the Persephone's character as the strands of her life come together. I also really loved the peeks we got into Hades' perspective, and the happily ever after was a perfect end to their sweet romance. On the whole this book was more serious and heavier than book one. It starts off a littler slower than the first, but makes up for it with an intense, action-filled second half. If you enjoyed the first book, I absolutely think you will love this one! Highly recommend this duology and can't wait to read more by Katherine Macdonald.

This duology was personally recommended by the author in a previous review so I had high hopes for it. It exceeded them. I want to say so much more but I don’t want to give away too much..
I will say, the part about Medusa made me so happy. She deserved so much better than the original myths gave her.
They’re great books and I really enjoyed them.

While the first book built fairly slowly so we got the beautiful imagery and the tentative bloom of Hades and Sephy's relationship, this one's upped the ante with the butt-kicking tenfold. It's faster pasted and we get to see the supporting characters a little bit more, but I was galloping along to find out how it would end and finished it in one sitting. You still get the brilliant use of language, but Sephy really comes into her own as a character which is great to see!

Great, refreshing take on the Hades story as Fae. Loved the linking of Gods to Fae and the names being a title to pass down. Very inventive, imaginative writing.
