- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2018This is a fascinating book set in a unique reality — unlike anything I've read, which was refreshing and thought-provoking. The characters are well-developed and the storyline kept me hooked. I'm looking forward to future works by this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2017It has been a long time since a plot so thoroughly gripped my attention. This is no predictable cookie cutter formula. Mr Nelson weaves a word of extraordinary credibility, where the bridge children are almost normal. The laws governing their behaviour and informing societal attitudes feel alarmingly honest, the characters are so flawed -they are breathtakingly real. This series is a great read if you're looking for a new type of drama!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2018I was stunned at the end of book 1 and am stunned again. I understand the reason book 1 had to end like it did (no spoilers here). The ending for book 2 was completely unsatisfying in that I felt that there was no resolution. To me, the book feels incomplete. It is as if the writer had gotten tired of writing the book and just stopped. I rated this three stars because the concept is unique and the story had my full attention. I read both books during the last two days. The writer's writing style is very immersive and his stories grabbed my attention immediately. I just wish he had given us an ending to Hanna's story, whether a happy ending or a sad ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2017This book richly deserved 5 stars. Great characters interact with an alternate reality where children are treated differently. Lots of twists and an ending that gets to your heart.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2019I read both books in The Bridge Daughter series and enjoyed them very much. I'd compare them to the many young adult dystopian novels that are popular now, along with the issues examined in The Handmaid's Tale. I found the female characters to be quite vividly portrayed, so it was easy to fall in love with them quickly. I'm hoping there will be a third book in the series to continue where Book 2 leaves off.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2017It was great, but a cliff hanger! This story line is just crazy yet so well written, it almost seems realistic.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2017If you don't like sad endings, you may want to pass on this book. Evidently the author has a thing for them. Bridge Daughter, his first in this series (?) had a disappointing ending also. The writing is good, the editing is fine, and the story is also good up until the last page.
Update: After thinking a bit more about this book, decided to add a couple of thoughts. First, if I’m not mistaken, this book IS in a series or trilogy. Hopefully things will shape up better for the characters in future books.
Secondly, imo the author just doesn’t like women. Just saying..
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2020I enjoyed the first book and though I don't particularly care for book series I was interested enough to go for this, the second book. The first 2/3 kept pace with the first then for me started to fall flat and feel forced. The premise is original and interesting g even though it seems to have no evolutional benefit and some inherent flaws but book two left me feeling as if I could be done e and not quite enough interest to purchase book three

Not really fantasy, just odd. He totally misconstrues the Biblical account of Hagar. I can understand what he's trying to do and I sympathize with that, but the whole premise is strange. Why not just write about abortion and be done with it? Maybe I'm wrong, but I suspect that was in the back of his mind all along, but he didn't want to say it....
