- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2017If you're looking for ideas for a Halloween-related story, either for yourself as an author or as a parent or teacher, this book is for you. Loaded with fun and appropriately creepy premises, there's no need to look any further for inspiration. Teachers could easily use this jewel to spawn a creative writing assignment that students would actually enjoy. Great fun, not only for Halloween, but for coming up with stories around the campfire. Fostering a child's creativity and imagination is highly recommended by educators and these clever ideas provide plenty of brain fodder. Don't miss it!

This is a darling little book geared for children who are, like sponges, up for any new and exciting project. It gives the kids leeway to be creative, writing and thinking, while all the while they think they are playing.
Like one other reviewer here, I think there’s room for the author to create more activities and then, maybe expand to other holidays.
Good job.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2018Just as the title suggests, this book contains writing prompts geared towards all things spooky. The ideas are creative, fun, and challenging, and would serve as a wonderful activity for children and even those young at heart. Personally, I think this would be an awesome activity for the whole family to do together. A paperback copy, in the format the author uses, is perfect.
Overall, this book is truly fantastic. I love the creativity and thoughts that went into it and feel everyone should pick up a copy for the littles in their family.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2017I’d bought a KINDLE copy of this book during a time it had been offered for free.
We all know how creative the minds of children can be, especially when it comes to telling stories from the top of their heads; and there’s no better time for them to make up these stories than Halloween. In this book, Ms. Scott, has given parents a collection of 13 ideas around which their child can make up their stories from, stories which include characters like: ghosts, witches, vampires and the like.
One of the unfortunate things regarding this book is that it’s scope of story prompts is limited to the holiday of Halloween, but if a child likes to tell these types of stories this book can be useful at any time during the year.
While the number 13 has a connection to Halloween I’d have loved for the author to have given readers several more prompts. For wanting to stimulate the minds of our children, and those adults who love to write these kinds of stories, I’m giving this book 4 STARS.
This book is also available as a paperback and as a KINDLE Unlimited.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2018This is an interactive book for kids who want to be writers or love to create. It opens with some writing suggestions, then has 13 pictures with a tagline to provide a starting point. I love the Halloween theme that includes a black cat, a witch and other “spooky” prompts. This would be good in a classroom or at home. I bought this for my grand-kids and plan to enjoy it with them. Great idea!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2017The title of this book did clearly state that the book is meant for the reader to perform exercises in writing. You are given a lead sentence and then expected to make a story out of that lead sentence. That is exactly what it is. The book provided the leads and the reader had to do a lot of filling in. It is not my usual read and I was not in the mood to do a writing exercise. This is a book that is better suited for an English class, or a writing class, not for a reading club.
However, the prompts are well thought out and will be very useful, as I already said, for writing exercises.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2017This book is a lot of fun. It is presented as a teachers resource aimed at youngish children, however, there were several exercises that engaged me as an adult. Many writers of all ages need a jump-start and this is a good way to do it!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2017If you’re looking for a book that inspires the kids to have run writing, “Halloween Writing Prompts” (from author WJ Scott’s Aspiring Author Series is sure to “do the trick.” The thirteen topical writing prompts in this little gem are a great way to inspire the creative writer in us all. I highly recommend this book as a welcome addition to any classroom and the family fun activities shelf as well. I’m sure the kids will agree with this reader—this creative little book is not only sensational, it's SPOOK-tacular! ~Bette A. 5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant and fun.
This brilliant book will appeal to kids of all ages, even the young at heart. It has prompts, ideas, activities and some really cute drawings. Stretch your kids imagination and watch their creativity fly as high as a witch on her broomstick. Alternatively, use some of these ideas for Halloween party games .. great fun. This book has great potential for excessive laughter when combined with 'grown-ups' and alcohol .. the possibilities are rather scary. I love it, kids will love it and all Halloween fans will love it too.
