Lin Coffin and her cousin, Viv Coffin are shocked when they are summoned to the scene of a murder. The victim seems to have connections with some of the founding families of Nantucket. Lin, who has the ability to see ghosts, learns that the Bed & Breakfast Inn has a ghost of a lady in blue.

Lin, soon learns another murder victim is found. This person is connected to a family that has lived on the Island for over two hundred years. Not only that, the B&B used to be a failed Silk Factory.

What is the connection? Can Lin figure out how to give peace to the Lady in Blue? Can justice be served for a two hundred year span?

This is a great series. Loaded with touches of history, genealogy and terrific fiction. Sleuths are very likable and the dialog moves the action along.

Pretty good short read as Lin Coffin and her cousin Viv try to solve two murders that appear to be related as they died a day apart and were both poisoned. One was a Nantucket Island resident and the other is a tourist researching her genealogy. Did they know one another? What is the connection? In the meantime, the local bed and breakfast has a ghost that becomes visual to Lin as if asking for help. The inn was a silk factory over 200 years ago and the ghost seems to wear clothes from that period, so, was she one of the women that worked in the factory? Lin is caught between trying to help the island police solve the murders and help the ghost so she can pass on. She has reason to belief her own life may be in danger, and she is right. A good story for someone who wants a short book because of limited time, but still a fun read for anyone.

Once again in the quaint town of Nantucket Caroline Coffin (Lin) and her cousin Viv Coffin are out for a nice walk when they are called to the scene of a murder. Maura Wells a guest at the Seaborne Inn a bed and breakfast was found poisoned. Lin’s friend Anton knew Maura, she was a historian researcher but the note attached to her said “one down, two to go.” Libby Hartnett, Lin’s distance cousin and power like Lin, along with Viv be able to solve the mystery before another person was killed? The next morning a well to do summer resident of Nantucket Warren Topper dropped dead while meeting friends for lunch and he was poisoned the same as Maura. Is there a connection? So while Viv and Lin try to find a reason for the deaths, Lin begins to feel her relatives ghosts Sebastian Coffin and his wife Emily lingering at each corner. How does all this relate? Who is the ghost at the B&B which used to be a Silk Factory started by founding fathers of the town, Garrell Williams, Thomas Samuelson and Bradford Coffin and what happened to the ghost? This is a great story and book 8 shows that author J. A. Whiting continues to bring the characters of Lin and Viv to life in the story. The others are boyfriends of Lin (Jeff) and Viv (John) and our favorite landscape partner and friend Leonard, and our favorite Nicky and Viv’s cat Queenie.

Such a smooth read with twists & turns from 200 years ago to the here & now. Lin solves again!
  • Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2019
I enjoyed the storyline and the characters of this cozy mystery and I will continue following the series for now; however, I got frustrated with some of the thought processes in this book. Character seemed to leap to conclusions that are no obvious. For example, at the death of a descendant of one the town founders, 2 very educated and presumably reasonable seniors concluded that he was murdered due to that relationship and that other descendants were at risk. If they were really reasonable people, they would have more likely gathered the team together to discuss theories or possibilities, but wouldn't start with a farfetched assumption. It felt like the author was rushing the story.
In addition, the author spends too much time over explaining things. This is really a little thing, but sometimes I feel a bit offended that the author doesn't think readers can get from A to B without the being led there step by step.
I think a little review and editing would have bumped this to a five start cozy.

Lin gets a bad feeling while she and Viv are walking along Gaylord St. Libby comes to ask ask Lin to come with her to see a dead body wants Lin to see if she can see the dead woman's spirit. They look into the woman's history and that of the place she was staying at. The place use to be part of the silk factory that was on the island in the early 1800s. The cousins look into the history of original owners of the factory and Maura. Trying to figure out who poisoned the woman. Then Warren is also poisoned. The girls, long with Anton try to figure out who the killer is. Leonard has finally let Lin into his home. Didn't know Lin could see ghosts. Good mystery.
