These stories just keep getting better and better. I look forward to reading more stories from this series. Very entertaining!

I really love the sense of place that the author provides in her books. In reading this book I felt like I had come home after a long vacation and I enjoyed catching up with the characters as if they were friends of mine. I am glad that Lin finally told her boyfriend about her gift and that he was so accepting of it and supportive of her.

What I love about this series is that that the main characters are so likable, and the romance between Lin and Jeff and Viv and John is not overdone, nor even a highlight in the book. It’s enough for me that they have someone they care about; my imagination can do the rest. I also love that their pets get some page time, too. :-)

Ms. Whiting did a great job building suspense in this book about the workers behind the Inn that apparently only Mrs. Perkins can see, and how it all related to her family. Anticipating a huge revelation and payoff at the end, in reality, the ending felt a bit anticlimactic to me. I had guessed part of what was coming, and there wasn’t as much of a showdown as seemed to be hinted at in the book.

One thing that did bother me was how often the author referred to the main characters as “young people.” I can see mentioning it once and then letting it go, but I don’t see why that would be so relevant as to have to mention it several times.

Minor criticisms aside, I very much look forward to the next Lin Coffin installment, because the books are just too good to be missed. They are well-written, and refreshingly free of errors.

Asked to do a landscaping job, Carolin (Lin) Coffin finds herself in a mysterious ghost sighting. The owner of the property seems to be the only able to see a gang of men working next door to her home that is being renovated.

Lin soon finds herself seeing one man (ghost) but who is he? Could he be part of Nantucket's prohibition days? Or, is he on the side of the law and trying to stop the 'rum' runs? Perhaps, even something more personal?

Lin, with the aid of her cousin, Vivian and other trusted persons of the community, works hard to figure the mystery out. That is before someone else falls victim.

This was the fifth novel in this wonderful series. Always filled with interesting historical facts and entertaining ghosts. Lin always steps up to the challenge!

This is a great cozy series...A curl up in front of the fireplace with a cup of tea kinda book. And has, in my humble opinion, all the necessary components of a really good book...ghosts, a sweet dog and cat (who can see ghosts), mystery, evil doers doing evil deeds (but no graphic violence), romance (but no graphic sex), history of Nantucket Island, and a clear ending to each story (no cliff hanging ending). I am already looking forward to the next book.

I enjoyed Book 5. I enjoy the lack of typos as much as I like the story. J.A. Whiting also has great ability with spelling and punctuation, which makes reading her books refreshingly easy, compared to some authors I've been unable to stay with throughout their stories. The books of Whiting's that I've read are clean and uncomplicated. By that, I mean her writing isn't bogged down by lengthy, unimportant descriptive narrative, which lets the reader stay focused on the mystery. This is a great cozy mystery, and I look forward to reading more of Whiting's works.

They just keep getting more enjoyable. After I read A Haunted Theft, I was so eager to see what was going to happen next that I didn't review it but went straight to A Haunted Invitation! It was e great to read the first words. It didn't seem like a different book the adventure continuing and I couldn't wait to see what Lin was going to do next! Can't wait for the next one.

Lin Coffin and her cousin Viv love the town of Nantucket. Both were born there and only Lin left for a short period of time. When her Grandfather became sick Lin returned to care for him and has since inherited the family home. Lin has settled well into the life of the island and started a landscaping business with partner Leonard.

Lin’s boyfriend Jeff is working for his friend on renovating one of the oldest homes in Nantucket. The house is owned by Ms. Pender. Jeff tells Lin that Ms. Pender wants the front and sides of the mansion landscaped. Not being sure she should really be taking this job, the idea of getting some additional money for the business overweight’s that feeling something is not right.

Lin has just finished telling her boyfriend Jeff about her ability to see ghosts and you will love the way Jeff responded to this information. Jeff totally supports Lin’s ability so when Ms. Pender starts calling the policy because a “band of men” are making strange late night disturbances, Jeff suggests that maybe Lin can help solve the mystery.

Lin along with help from Viv, Anton the local historian, Libby and boyfriend Jeff all have parts in solving this mystery. While you can read each book separate I personally would recommend starting with book 1. The development of the characters will help you learn how the past is still in the future.
