4.2 out of 5 stars 70 ratings

When murder crashes his vacation, can a techie in paradise still catch some waves while snaring a killer?

Marty Golden is ready to kick back at the beach. From the Author

If you've finished all the books in the Silicon Valley Mystery series, try my Ozarks Lake Mystery series for more good-hearted, humorous murder mysteries. Fish Out of Water (book 1) is a rollicking good tale of newlyweds in a small town full of secrets.

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

Marc Jedel writes humorous murder mysteries. Years in Silicon Valley marketing leadership positions honed his sense of humor and writing skills. Crafting fiction on the job was simply called emails, ads, and marketing collateral.

The publication of Marc’s first novel, Uncle and Ants, gave him permission to claim “author” as his job. This leads to much more interesting conversations with people than answering, “marketing.”

Like his character, Andy, from the Redwoods Country Mystery series, Marc continues to grow older and would prefer not to run a bed-and-breakfast inn when he retires. Like his character, Marty, from the Silicon Valley Mystery series, Marc now lives in Silicon Valley, works in high-tech, and enjoys bad puns. Like his characters Jonas and Elizabeth from the Ozarks Lake Mystery series, he grew up in the South and spent plenty of time in and around Arkansas. Like all his protagonists, Marc too has a dog, although his is neurotic, sweet, and small, with little appreciation for Marc’s humor.

Another delightful Uncle Marty and the girls mystery! Marty flies to Hawaii with his nieces, his girlfriend, his elderly neighbor, Mrs. Kim (who might be a ninja), and Buddy the retriever. What can go wrong? A murder, of course! At their hotel, right before they arrive, of course!
I grinned from first page to last. I love clean, cozy mysteries with humor and quirky characters, and this was the best ever. I smiled, snickered, giggled, tittered and often guffawed through the whole book.
This is my new favorite cozy mystery EVER and I’ll read it again and again, so as not to miss any delightful detail.
Uncle Marty is like a cross between Monk and Daisy Wick on Bones. He is brilliant and bumbling, with limited social skills and excellent uncle skills.
I’m looking forward to more of these wonderful, silly, clean, quirky, exciting mysteries, starring Uncle Marty.
Each Silicon Valley Mystery is fine as a stand-alone, but is so much more fun when read in order! If this is your first read in this series, be sure to get Uncles and Ants, the first in this series - you’ll love it!
I’m so grateful to have received an advance copy to read from this excellent author, and, as always, will also purchase the book to support Mr. Jedel and encourage him to hurry and give us more in the continuing saga of “Marty Golden, Professional Police Consultant” (in his mind). ;-)

Marty Golden is back in the latest Silicon Valley Mystery book, Huh? Why? and Punch by Marc Jedel. This time, Marty and family/friends who are like family are vacationing in Hawaii. Marty, his nieces, his girlfriend, and Mrs. Kim (the amazing neighbor) arrive ahead of Marty's sister, Laney, and his college aged son and daughter (Eli and Amanda) who are planning on arriving the next day. But, ah,“The best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men. Gang aft a-gley”. You know it sounds awesome in the original, but, yeah, The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry, and Laney, Eli, and Amanda's plane gets delayed...and delayed...and...well, you'll see.

You'd think arriving in paradise would be, well, paradise. But when the first thing that greets you is a murder scene, you know this vacation isn't going to go as planned. However, if you know Marty, this is just the thing he's wired for! After all, he's "consulted" on murder cases back home. Is he destined to solve this crime too?

This book has plenty of Uncle Marty's corny humor and hijinks. If you've read the prior books, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, I'd recommend that you do. Knowing how everyone fits into the "family" is helpful, and you'll already know how Marty operates. Though I liked this one, I missed a couple of side characters who only make brief appearances. There's a lot more sexual innuendo in this book between Marty and his girlfriend as well, so if you're uncomfortable with that in cozy mystery books, be prepared for it.

It's really fun watching Marty try to solve the crime. He thinks he's got awesome skills, but it's usually his friends who give him the most helpful clues. I really like the addition of his long lost high school friend Scott and hope he makes another appearance. If you like your mystery books with lots of hijinks, you'll enjoy Huh, Why? and Punch.

I just finished Marc Jedel’s “Huh? Why” and Punch” mystery book. As with all of Marc’s Silicon Valley Mystery books series, the story keeps you on the edge but at the same time there is a bit of humor which I enjoy. I hope the main character Marty Golden and his girlfriend Meghan return for future episodes! In the meantime, I’m moving on to Marc’s Ozarks Lake Mystery Series! Thank you Marc!

Another great read, hard to put book by Marc Jedel. Murder finds our sleuth, Marty, vacationing in Hawaii with girlfriend and nieces. An array of suspects and comedic conversations abound. What predicaments will Marty find himself?

Yes, that is the way I felt as I read this advanced copy of book 5 of the Silicon Valley Mysteries by Marc Jedel. As always, this latest novel is basically PG-13 quality filled with humor, murder, and Uncle Marty’s stumbling into and out of danger as he, convinced of his great detective abilities, tries to solve a murder committed just before he and his nieces and girl friend arrived at a hotel in Hawaii. For me, the use of the F bomb as well as Marty and his girl friend’s sexual interaction were unwelcome, though I realized most will have no problem with either one. His utter stupidity did become a bit much, causing me to lower my rating to 3 stars instead of my usual 4 or 5 stars for Jedel’s books. Please be aware, though, that I dislike such humor that most find very funny, so don't be put off too much by it. As you can see, even though I received this advance copy as an ARC reader for this author, I’m being honest in my ratings.

I enjoy the mismatched Marty and Meghan 's budding relationship. Well written, interesting middle aged, male perception. His thought process is hysterical along with all of his relationships. Look forward to more Marty adventures!
