His Horizon: A His Contemporary MM Romance Novel Kindle Edition
Can a second chance at love heal old wounds in a crowded Cornish kitchen?
Jude’s drowning in guilt when he can’t save his family business single-handed. The last person he expects to throw a lifeline is Rob, a rival chef who once beat him to first place in a cooking contest.
Almost a year later, two chefs working so closely together won’t be easy. Not when Rob is everything Jude isn’t—popular, extroverted, and almost a one-time hook-up. What’s worse is that Rob wears his heart on his sleeve while Jude’s still in the closet.
Jude’s dilemma doesn’t end there. Rob’s rescue package comes with conditions that mean sharing everything from the profits to Jude’s sleeping quarters. Falling for Rob again will either be a disaster, or signal a much brighter future, but only if Jude can meet Rob’s final condition and love him in the open.
♥ Featuring opposites who attract, ex-rivals to lovers, and an out-for-you storyline dripping with hurt-comfort feelings, His Horizon is the first in a now complete shared-world series of standalone, super-romantic MM romance stories. ♥

About the author

Con Riley lives on the wild and rugged Devonshire coast, with her head in the clouds, and her feet in the Atlantic Ocean.
Injury curtailed her enjoyment of outdoor pursuits, so writing fiction now fills her free time. Love, loss, and redemption shape her romance stories, and her characters are flawed in ways that makes them live and breathe.
When not people watching, or wrangling her own boy band of teen sons, she spends time staring at the sea from her kitchen window. If you see her, don't disturb her—she’s probably thinking up new plots.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2020His Horizon is a book that gave me all the feels! Jude has been out at sea looking for his parents who were lost at sea during a horrific typhoon. He had to leave the cooking contest he was sure to win and he had to leave Rob just as things were starting for them.
While he was gone, the pub that his family owns suffered some damage along with their village and his sister Louise went to the one person she thought could help with money issues... Rob.
When Jude gets back to find Rob in his bed and slotted perfectly into a life he should have been there to live but couldn’t be, a barrage of things start to happen and Rob happens to be at the center of most of those. Rob was heart broken when Jude left without saying goodbye and had his own reasons for coming to help pick up the pieces and save the pub.
This book is full of hurt/comfort themes and watching Jude slowly let Rob into a place that he has never let anyone and start to lean on him was amazing.
Con Riley takes you on a journey of hope and loss, heartbreak and happiness, rediscovering the truth of things that you didn’t realize for so long, and most of all, love. The secondary cast of characters add so much to the story and you’re rooting for every last one of them. I cried many times while reading this book, but that’s because Con’s characters are so real and you can easily connect with them because they aren’t perfect, they make mistakes and they try hard to redeem themselves. They’re so well built that you fall in love with the whole story and not just one or two specific characters.
I highly recommend this story and I can’t wait for more to come in this shared universe! 5 huge stars from me!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2021This was an interesting premise about two Chefs Jude Anstey and Rob Martin, both with secrets, yearnings, and both searching. This tale has no surprises, low angst, it is riddled with repetitive internal dialogue and it has a bit wordy storytelling style. This is also a slow burner, no insta-love here, which I like in a romantic tale. Although, the nautical metaphors were a bit overdone. There is also a lot of kissing and hand-holding and searching the horizon. A likable enough second chance story, even though the ending left me with a few questions. A good read. Rating: 3.5⭐️⭐️⭐️
- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2021A well written storyline with enough ups and downs to maintain interest, and an artful dodging of any typical plot twists kept me intrigued until the end. Good character development, excellent supporting cast and an ending much hoped for, though definitely not assured initially. I also enjoyed the descriptions of the surrounding village and its people. Makes me wish I could visit there. This is a good story with a great ending and an absolute delight to read for one who is eternally optimistic.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2020This was a well-written “coming out” M/M romance between two chefs who battled it out in a contest for Best Chef. Unfortunately, Jude had to leave just as he was about to win, leaving Rob the default winner. To me this had a slow-moving beginning, but then as I got into it, I realized that Riley builds up his story with alphabet blocks so well placed and then he adds the flourishes such as the significant pieces of the plot. Thus, making this reviewer come to grips with a conflict of styles: his writing and my reading ;-) I’m an impatient reader. I need to get into the story but Riley made me wait and savor.
After their parent’s sailboat went missing in the ocean, Jude is returning home where he never expected to be again to help his sister run the pub. Jude has been sailing the seas as a chef aboard a yacht to look for them. When he gets home, he can’t believe the changes that have taken place and that his former nemesis and almost-lover Rob is there. Why? How? So many questions…This book takes place on Porthperrin, Cornwall, whether real or imaginary, I’d love to visit. (Could it be Perranporth, N. Cornwall?) The place and people become as much a “character” as Jude, Rob, Lou, Mark and all the others. When all the revelations take place, you will be so happy you read this book. The end is so exciting and suspenseful as well as beautifully poignant. There may be a funny moment or two. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Gay Romance Reviews and I give it 4.5 stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2022I loved the Learning to Love series and wanted to read the earlier series. I had a hard time with this one. I didn't connect with the mcs at all. I was so bored I put it down for other books twice before finally completing it. I'm ready to move on to the next one, since Tom seemed infinitely more interesting than these two.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2022The narrative went on far too long for me. Some details seemed missing or confusing and I was impatient waiting for some resolution.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2023Amazing MM contemporary story set in the UK. Main characters are Jude and Rob. Ex rivals in a cooking competition for top chef. Tragedy strikes and Jude has more important, life values thing to do, and walks out of the comp. An amazing story with heaps of twists and turns. Another great one from Con Riley. A dose of the sea and sailing thrown in as well. Strong feelings most assumed from quiet rarely spoken men. Loved it!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2024Riley writes frenemies to lovers, second chance tropes set in southwest England. Well drawn, Rob and Jude are excellent MCs and the family and village swell the heart. Returning to the quest looms on the horizon until the reunions brighten.

This book had everything, masses of feels, fun banter, heat and some angst. I loved it and highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything Has Changed
Jude had reached the semi finals of the competition when he received some devestating news and left suddenly without talking to anybody including Rob a fellow competitor and maybe more. Rob was upset by his departure as they had shared a kiss the night before and he had developed strong feelings for Jude. Their story continues many months later when Jude returns to help his sister at the family pub and restaurant. Nothing is the same and they still have no answers!
Jude is in the closet while Rob is out and proud, great story with lots of angst, page turner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet
This is a really sweet story with lots of messy emotions for all the characters, main and supporting, to work through.
