Overview

Dar woke on his stomach, and began wondering was this a dream? Last night he was a wizard's apprentice, safe in a tower located in some far off land, and yet this morning he was... He opened his eyes and took in his surroundings. He wasn't sure where he was, but he was sure that his Sergeant, the brutish half-ogre Ocktur was coming down the line, kicking recruits awake. Dar was sure everyone could hear his heart pounding in his chest as rose to his feet and away from Ocktur's wraith. Looking again at the others in his unit, he saw some of his own emotions writ large upon the face of the others: fear, confusion, doubt. Most of them were probably kidnapped and pressed into service like him. But on some their faces were saying something else. They were showing an impish delight, a bully's expression of enjoyment of power. Dar's eyes turns to the horizon as his heart fell in his chest. Could he get back to his old life? Tears welled up as Ocktur started some loud rant at his troops. Dar swallows hard; never mind his old life, would he be able to just survive? Fortress of Angels follows Dar as he comes to terms with being impressed into an army, into a war, that he knows nothing about. The first story set in the world of Holimoren, Dar must learn the secrets behind the war and see what he can do to bring it to a climatic end.
